New team, need suggestions.

This is mainly for PBR, but will do some online battling too. My old team was winning, but not as much as I'd like. I have 5/6 so far and I'd like suggestions on what my last should be. I don't know whether I should get another wall or what. Please, please help me with that. Other than that here it is...

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 ATK/ 252 SPD
Nature: Adamant

-Cross Chop
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch
-Thunder Punch

Standard Physical Electivire, nothing to say.

Gengar @ Wise Glasses
Nature: Timid
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Hypnosis
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Thunderbolt

Special Sweeper, Shadow Ball for STAB. Timid nature to outspeed rather than Modest for boosted Sp. Attack. Will probably be lead pokemon since it’s good all around. I will hypnosis on expected switches.

Kingdra @ Lum Berry (Don’t want any paralysis’)
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 SAtk
Nature: Modest (+SAtk, -Atk)
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Ice beam
-Rain Dance

I decided to do Dragon Pulse over Draco Meteor so it can still do some damage after using a dragon attack, whereas after a Draco Meteor I could kiss my chances of good damage with surf goodbye.

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sychronize
Evs: 252 HP/ 126 Sp. Def./ 126 Def./ 4 HP
Nature: Impish

-Curse
-Payback
-Wish
-Substitute

Not a BP’er. My attempt at a good wall that can attack as well as take hits. Wish to start off with and substitute to curse. I wasn’t exactly sure for this as a moveset so I expect changes to be suggested. But I really don’t want the typical annoyer Umbreon with BP, Mean Look, etc.

Weavile@ Life Orb
Jolly Nature
Ability: Pressure
Evs: 252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP

Swords Dance
Ice Punch
Night Slash
Brick Break

Typical Weavile I guess. I’ve considered it before but never went through with it.

Thanks for the help

i believe you need a fire or ground type... and yes, probably a wall-type

Don't make useless comments like that Naos. Stuff like "You need ____ type" don't help at all.

Never ever lead with Electivire. Electivire should be used as a surprise Pokemon that you switch in on predicted Electric moves. If you lead with Electivire, you'll never get that speed boost because people just won't use Electric attacks until Electivire has been fainted.

Lead with Weavile instead. Swords Dance isn't the standard, Pursuit is. Use it with Life Orb or Choice Band.

Wise Glasses are pretty much useless. The boost is too little to make any sort of difference.

That Umbreon set doesn't work. Even with boosted Attack, Umbreon still can't hurt anything. It's easily phazed away and is simply a bait for Gyarados/Tyranitar to switch in and start Taunting/DDing.

Kingdra is pretty much the most overrated Water types that newbies seem to flock to even though Blissey goes "lol" and so do opponent water types. There are much better special sweepers out there and much better Water types out there. Gyarados would especially be good on your team since you have Electivire.

Your team cannot switch into SpecsMence, CBTar, CBCross, Trauntridos, or a bunch of other sweepers with abbreviated names. You really need a good physical wall and a good special wall.

I see what you mean with the Electivire. I guess I could scrap Kingdra for Gyarados.

So would you suggest taking out Umbreon completely or changing it to the standard Umbreon with Mean Look, Baton pass, etc?

I don't really know what to do for the lack of walls situation. I could do Bronzong for special, and maybe Skarm for physical but I really hate Skarm.

Azonic August 14th, 2007 8:38 AM

Weavile is probably too fragile to take one with Swords Dance, Life Orb boost is plenty and I suggest you use it wisely.

Umbreon is always a Mean Look/Passer.

Alex_ August 14th, 2007 12:09 PM

I've taken Weavile out for Infernape since Infernape has Grass Knot.

Infernape
Timid nature
Ability: Blaze
Evs: 252 Sp. Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP

- Grass Knot
- Flamethrower
- Focus Blast
- Protect

and replaced Kingdra with this Gyarados, which I'm not sure is right

Gyarados
Adamant nature
252 Speed/ 252 Attack/ 4 Sp. Def.
Ability: Intimidate

-Aqua Tail
-Earthquake
-Ice Fang
-Dragon Dance

Hmm Im not so sure about Gyarados because i dont use it at all.. but im thinking this is the standard set is it not?

Alex_ August 14th, 2007 12:17 PM

But Aqua Tail does more base damage than Waterfall.

Also, what is the standard EV spread for Gyarados?

aragornbird August 14th, 2007 1:23 PM

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*

Aqua Tail has 10 more power, but 10 less accuracy. And it has no additional side effects while Waterfall has the very useful effect of making your opponent flinch.

Waterfall > Aqua Tail any day of the week

The standard EV spread for the Bulky Gyarados is:

212hp/16atk/180def/100spd

The HP and Defense Evs let you switch in easily on physical sweepers (especially CBCross), 100 Speed lets you outrun Jolly Garchomp after 1 DD.

Alex_ August 14th, 2007 1:29 PM

So with those EV's and the moveset suggested I would have this:

[email protected] Life Orb
Adamant nature
212hp/16atk/180def/100spd
Ability: Intimidate

-Waterfall
-Dragon Dance
-Ice Fang
-Taunt

Sounds good to me but with Taunt I won't really have a need to switch into Electivire will I?

aragornbird August 14th, 2007 1:32 PM

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Taunt doesn't block Electric attacks, so Gyarados is still going to be weak against them.

Alex_ August 14th, 2007 1:34 PM

Oh I see, I was thinking that it made the user only use physical attack moves.

aragornbird August 14th, 2007 1:37 PM

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Taunt forces the user to use direct damage attacks. If it doesn't do damage directly, it is shut down by Taunt.
