Super Mario Block Puzzle Game

Hey, look, something here that's not a Pokemon game made in RPG maker!

Super Mario Block Puzzle Game
Yes that is the title. Don't question it.

Made with Game Maker 6.1. Also of people have told me that this is a very good game and I need to finish it. It was originally made for a minigame competition at another forum, but from there it grew. 10 levels turned to moar, and moar turned into what it is now.

Story
Because apparently this is necessary. :/

Wario has done something bad, so Mario must go through a series of worlds revolving around picking up and dropping blocks to get to the Warp Pipe that will bring you to the next level. He must chase Wario down and defeat him so he will undo whatever it is that he did that is so bad.

"Even the first level will have you using your brains. And your blocks."

"Of course, no Mario game is complete without Goomba stomping! Blocks just add to the possibilities."

"World 2 pits you in the icy places of...I dunno...Some cold place?"

"The second boss battle with Wario. Quite possibly the best thing I have ever made."

Features
You DO want to know what to expect here, right?

-5 worlds, each with 10 levels, one of them being a boss battle against Wario, making for a total of 50 dazzling levels!
(Only 3 worlds currently exist)
-Special gimmicks in every world that are bound to make you scratch your head!
-Epic battles against Wario to see who can be the better stomper!
-And much, much more!

Controls
How do I picked up block?

Shift: Jump
Control: Pick up/throw down blocks.
Left/Right arrow keys: Move left/right.
Up: Turn around without moving, for more precise block-placing.
Down: Enter warp pipes, for moving on to the next level.
R: Restart, for if you screw up bad.

Known bugs
Don't tell me these exist when I already KNOW they're there

-Sometimes when turning the opposite direction you'll get stuck in a wall. Just randomly mash buttons until you get out. This happens because of the way I've programmed turning around.
-It's possible to pick up blocks out of thin air. I'm not telling you how and I suggest you also keep this information to yourself if you figure it out.
-There may be ways to bring blocks from one level to another. You shouldn't be able to do this but let me know if you find a way to do so.
-The third battle against Wario can sometimes glitch up if you kill him at certain places. If it doesn't continue on to the next level, just restart.

Looks pretty good, and really original, I'll probably download it eventually, though I don't have time now, anyway good luck.

MegaTailzChao August 31st, 2007 3:17 PM

Yeah and you'd probably need quite a bit of time. The game's a bit long.

O.G. Duke August 31st, 2007 3:47 PM

Well, good screenshot! And I like it! But it took a long time to download so I decided not to, sorry...

MegaTailzChao August 31st, 2007 6:07 PM

Then you must have a REALLY slow connection.

Download for me takes like 5 seconds and my computer isn't quite "top of the line".

It also might be that I'm using Firefox but that shouldn't be that big of a difference, if any at all.

Excellent work. I love it.

Looks great. Quite original, considering there are mainly Pokémon fangames here. Reminds a little of Block Dude from Puzzle Pack (The game included with TI 83+/84+ Silver Edition calculators). one thing I would like tp ask, though. How many different areas (not levels) will there be?

Joey the Cockroach September 1st, 2007 12:52 PM

this is quite a nice idea instead of pokemon all the time. the world 2 ice background looks like the icecap zone from sonic 3, but i could be wrong. but great ideas none the less. this game should be a great puzzler, nice one.

Nice game it really good, but question here,

when you complete it, will you post a FAQ with the solutions to all the levels that arent ovibous? (by that i mean the ones without blocks, or the levels with Wario)

Zerro September 1st, 2007 7:12 PM

Again dropping by to give props to your game. I love it. It is very original and has an addictive game play aspect. The levels get frustrating!!!

Anyway, the main reason why I'm dropping by is to give you this video of game play footage that I took. I gave up on the first level of world 2 xD
I ran into some interesting glitches, and the part where I start yelling at the game at the end, don't take it to personally xD. I love the game. Also the solutions to world 1's puzzles are in the video for those who havn't figured them out yet.

Excellent game! Your mario sprite is
way to small when your Wario sprite
is big. You might want to fix that!^^

Hey, thanks for the video, but I already have videos of the first 2 worlds in better quality here(World 1) and here(World 2)

But for the rest you'll just have to use your brains and figure them out yourself. None of them are very hard, anyways.

Actually this was intentional. I wanted Wario to be at least slightly intimidating so I left him as big as he was on the sheet.

If I wanted him Mario's size I would have done so. Easy stuff.

I said there's 5 worlds, and if each world has it's own theme, then that's 5 themes.

Also no need to give me ideas as I already have them all picked out and in fact I will be starting world 5 soon.

And I figured that since people seem to like this I should give some proof that I have, indeed, gotten quite a bit of progress into the game from the released demo.

Yes, those are the sand blocks from Super Mario Bros. 2. Good fun there.

Also one last thing, what exactly is it people are finding so hard about this game? Could it be you're all running into health? Are you having trouble with the block puzzles? What is it that's so hard about it? I've never had someone tell me the game is too HARD before. I was told it was easy, but never hard. :/

Zerro September 2nd, 2007 6:09 AM

I don't know But maybe a save feature would be appropriate?

.:Sam:. September 2nd, 2007 8:57 AM

I must say, I'm impressed. I didn't get very far in but I found the Block Puzzles to be the hardest. I can't wait to see this game when it is released. it has huge potential.

Datriot September 2nd, 2007 2:16 PM

I've downloaded and played it and it's awesome! Simple yet effective. Even though I think Mario sucks, it's a fun game.
I noticed you used the Sinnoh Underground Theme, no real reason I thought I'd mention this, I just love it. XD

I don't think the game is really long enough to call for a save function. If the game was longer then 5 worlds then maybe I might consider it.

I really don't see how the block puzzles are that hard. Most of the time they're just picking up one or two blocks and placing them in places that allow Mario to get high enough a jump to get to his destination.

Dogboy2709 September 3rd, 2007 6:13 AM

Maybe when you died you could judt reset at the first level at the current world, i was annoyned when i had to start back at level one of world one when i died on the Bullet Bill level.

MegaTailzChao September 3rd, 2007 10:12 AM

That's actually a very good idea. I never though of doing that.

Actually now that I think about it there may finally be a use for the coins.
