Illiterate March 14th, 2008 1:49 AM

Love them, definitely will use them.

Alistair March 25th, 2008 2:37 PM

Thanks for the responses.

No, I am not dead. I am just focused more on my life, right now. Anyway, here are some tiles I made the other day. Not really much, I just wanted to see what I could do in a different style.

/Circa March 25th, 2008 2:56 PM

You did them in a different style, and they came out fine. I love them ;D.
But i think that little point at the top of the big tree sought of ruins it. You might want to make it smaller, make it different or get rid of it ;P.

their nice though.

Wichu March 25th, 2008 3:03 PM

Nice! Reminds me of GSC for some reason... Are you planning to make any more in that style?

Alistair March 26th, 2008 11:03 AM

@CheesePeow: I'll make a version without the point, but I will offer both.

@Wichu: Of course I will make more. Even though most of my sets are incomplete, they at least have the basics, so anyone can use them and not have anything stick out (though ROM hackers are going to be out of luck for this set. The palette for the green in the tree alone is 12 colors, and that doesn't even include the grass palette).

Anyway, a small update to the set, an unnamed map, and my avatar I made for my PMBD account.

wooow! Those are so nice! I'm seriously going to use those trees at some point... somehow. Very, very good work.

DarkPegasus March 26th, 2008 12:39 PM

WoW, that is sooo cool... It looks more real, more like nature, or something... It really looks like a forest. I am not sure if this is supposed to be pokemonish, but if it is, the shading's a bit off... You should add a darker part at the top, to make it more round looking.

Edit: What is PMBD? ^^

Atomic Reactor March 26th, 2008 1:05 PM

omg! those look to realistic to be pokemon graphics.
it almost looks real...
they are very impressive.
cant wait to see more.

Alistair March 26th, 2008 3:04 PM

Thanks for all the comments. I was trying to go for a more realistic look. I am also working on changing the ground tile. It is still too Pokémon-ish.

@DarkPegasus: Nope, these aren't meant to be Pokémon style. If they were, I would shade them accordingly and use a quite more limited palette. Also, PMBD stands for Paysites Must Be Destroyed, a website dedicated to keep all Sims 2 custom content free (even stuff from The Sims Resource).

DarkPegasus March 27th, 2008 11:34 PM

I see, I see, no complaints then, can't wait to see more of this style ^^

Alistair April 1st, 2008 3:56 PM

Well, another boring map update, as well as a tileset one. I did not bother to do the animations yet, but I will get to them.

I also did something a bit random. I made a small set of characters, and each has its own meaning. Pretty stupid, I know.

Atomic Reactor April 1st, 2008 4:32 PM

wow dude. amazing.
i only have 2 problems (a first for me)
i think the flowers seem a lil big..
and that one tile size bush, i think you should slim down the leave part of it. make it look less like an umbrella.

other than that its amazing.

o, and ur map updates arent boring.
im going to pm you.

StrawyBlood April 2nd, 2008 4:52 PM

wow! i like the tilesets (of the first page xD) and
i love the trees you made! I cant draw trees... its to hard xD
can you give me a tip for drawing trees? xD 'cause i really need one (hehe)

Alistair April 6th, 2008 3:35 AM

Thanks for the comments.

@Atomic Reactor: Yeah, I kinda rushed the bushes. I am going to make new ones anyway. About the flowers, I am making some smaller ones in addition to the ones there.

@StrawyBlood: I have a tree spriting tutorial. Check the first page of my thread.

Anyway, I have been planning a game. Not a fangame or ROM hack, a completely original game. Here is one of the menus that could possibly be in it (it is still a work in progress, though).

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8945/m1by0.png

Yeah, pretty bad and boring.

Atomic Reactor April 6th, 2008 10:44 AM

don, u really have to have more faith in your work. you keep saying everything is bad, or boring. that menu looks fine. good luck with that game.

DarkPegasus April 6th, 2008 11:29 AM

^ Yeah, it really has 40-50-60's feel to it, I'm already old movies nostalgic XD Oh, that means it pwns ^^

Nytkoi April 6th, 2008 3:42 PM

Dude, this is the best work I have seen in years! Your mapz insprire me so much.. Its just, well. YOU ROX! THOSE TEH AWESHUME! -shot'd- Nice job. Good luck on the game!

Alistair April 6th, 2008 5:02 PM

Thanks for the comments. AR and DP, I only scrutinize my work to encourage myself to do better.
So just let me be. LOL.

Anyway, I might make some houses for Let It Rain, or I might make some useless maps (for practice). You tell me what to do (I want to do both equally, but I only want to do one of them, though).

DarkPegasus April 7th, 2008 7:03 AM

Houses for let it rain ^^ I wanna see the mood for the game : )

Atomic Reactor April 7th, 2008 1:02 PM

i really wanna see some houses!
would they be in your recent style?

Alistair April 28th, 2008 5:17 PM

Hey, just a little update. I have not stopped spriting, but rather I have been playing games and figuting out a design for my game, Let It Rain, and I think I have an idea of the style I am going to go for.

Anyway, to back into the hang of spriting, I decided to do a devamp of some Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart tiles, so they would be able to fit in a hack. They most certainly are not the greatest, but the practice certainly helped (and it will show next week or so).

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5097/devampssd3.png

I also toyed around with an isometric style, but ultimatly gave up, due to my inexperience in the area. Here is the lineart, if someone wants to play around with them.

Tyrantrum April 28th, 2008 5:40 PM

Ur tiles r so beautiful!
1 question:
How do u use someone's tiles(if ur allowed) if all they show is a picture of the tiles?

Atomic Reactor April 28th, 2008 6:03 PM

those tiles look great, are you quitting your other style?

good attempt at the iso. it looks good.
did you have trouble with the roof? cause thats were i think it would be hardest.
good luck with the rest =)

EnteiTheMant April 30th, 2008 7:17 AM

The tiles on the first page are amazing!! I love them. Good job; keep it goin!

Alistair May 2nd, 2008 6:59 PM

@AR: Yes, that does mean I am quitting my other style. I still found too much Pokémon-style in them. This new style is less Pokémon.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. I have been working on a website, which I was going to debut my new set on, but my webhost's server crashed (and I really don't want to upload 20MB of files over dial-up). So instead, I am just going to post them here. I know, I don't have very many at the moment, but this new style takes a lot of time.

Atomic Reactor May 2nd, 2008 7:02 PM

ooo that tree is pretty ^_^ lol

is there a shadow under the tree?
i thin there should be..
looks great otherwise!

Alistair May 3rd, 2008 8:01 AM

Actually, there is. Instead of the dark ring like in Pokémon tiles, I made the grass a shade darker. Maybe I should have made it two shades...

Anyway, here is something I drew because I was really bored. And yes, it is supposed to be in black and white.

http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/9346/beachthingku2.png

Siimo May 3rd, 2008 12:42 PM

Woah! Those are great! Keep up the great work!

Atomic Reactor May 3rd, 2008 2:04 PM

yeah i would make the shadow a tad bit darker ^_^
keep up the great work!
o, and nice beach scene btw. it looks... refreshing =)

blaster911 May 3rd, 2008 4:02 PM

you are the best tile creator ever...
you should work for nintendo.

Alistair May 4th, 2008 11:08 AM

Thanks for the comments.

Anyway, I sprited some more tiles, and I made a map to go along with then (granted, the map is puny). Hope you like them.

ooooo kewl. looks gritty. i'd reduce the amount of darkened spots or soften them... i dunno, it looks like an embroidery effect was placed on the whole thing. the grass is fine that way, but the ground/pathway parts could probably use some simplifying.

danoftheworld May 5th, 2008 11:19 AM

WOW. These are awesome!!!! They really are great..

Well, I got really bored at school today, so I drew this. Yes, it is a traffic cone. I was inspired by the one sitting in the parking lot.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/9738/trafficconepj4.png
Well, I just recovered this from my flash drive. I drew four potatoes, each are different. I also tried an all-black outlining style, which is becomming popular at Serebii (I still prefer colored outlines, though).

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/475/potatoxv2.png

Atomic Reactor May 18th, 2008 10:24 AM

omg those potatoes look delicious!
to bad they're not real =(

first one looks the best.
im not a big fan of black outlines either.

Alistair May 21st, 2008 6:43 PM

Thanks for the comments. I wouldn't say they look delicious, though (personally, I think they look like something I am not going to mention).

Anyway, here is an update to my latest tileset. I added some rocks and some flowers (working on animations for the yellow ones). I also made a new map to with them. Hope you like them.

the (2) rocks with stuff on top doesn't look that great. im not sure what it even is.. =/

Alistair May 21st, 2008 6:53 PM

It is supposed to be moss. To tell you the truth, I don't like them much either, but that was the best way I could make them look. They are only there for variety, anyway.

EDIT: Updated the map, it had some errors in it.

Kimichi-sama May 22nd, 2008 11:07 AM

Wow! You're really good at what you do ^_^

Alistair May 25th, 2008 1:01 PM

Thanks (I try). :)

Woah, I am impressed! It all blends so well, I can't wait to see more (and this in your game :P )

Alistair May 29th, 2008 7:13 PM

Thanks DP.

Well, I have just started my first attempt of spriting a creature (rather than a potato). Here are two versions of the line art. Tell me which one is better, and also tell me what can be improved (so far).

da second one was better cause it had a tail maby give him striped furr

Atomic Reactor May 30th, 2008 5:05 PM

i like the 1st one more.
i dont like the eyes though...

and the base of the tail on both should be wider.

fudgy June 16th, 2008 2:04 PM

your tiles are hot, i am using them in my game, once im finished, credit to you!

Alistair June 17th, 2008 4:34 PM

Thanks for the comments.

Well, I have given up on the Fakémon. I don't really have enough time to go about and perfect it, as I do with my tiles (which don't take nearly as long). Speaking of tiles, I have some new ones, but only Neo-Dragon has them (and has permission to use them), so watch the Pokémon Protectors thread periodically for updates. Also, I will post some new tiles here eventually, as I have decided to make a fangame, mainly to get me into the swing of Sphere (so I can develop Let It Rain).

Thanks, and cheers.

ΜσdαΜϑrdεrεr June 17th, 2008 4:43 PM

*applauses* Very well done. I'm really impressed at your skill. Keep it up, buddy.

Tyrantrum June 17th, 2008 5:18 PM

I simply LOVE ur tiles Don Patch.
May I use these:
http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/5458/gsctilesetgl8an0.png
for an up coming hack I'll probably do.
I'll credit u when I post it.

Alistair June 18th, 2008 5:18 PM

Of course.

Any tiles(ets) I make can be used, as long as I have not made them specifically for someone's (or my own) project, and as long as credit is given.

Anyway, I might make a quick map with some Pokémon Garden rips I did in a little bit, maybe showcasing a new tile I made (and by little bit, I mean tommorow. I am really tired right now).

Keep posted, and cheers.

FenderX June 19th, 2008 6:54 PM

dude im lovin the tiles, hope you make new ones later on...keep the awsome work up!

Alistair June 19th, 2008 6:55 PM

Well, my computer is currently down, but do not fear! There is always Paint on my parent's computer. Anyway, instead of making a Pokémon Garden rip map, I decided to sprite a new tree for my fangame (which is going to be made in RMXP, with Poccil's starter kit, not Sphere like I had planned). Now, I know the image is a GIF, but that is to prevent thieves (I did a little Google image searching, and found many of my sprites appear on the first page, which obviously leads (as has already led) to theft), so please do not comment on that. Now, obviously, since I already took that measure, I do not want people using this tile, so please do not ask.

Alistair June 22nd, 2008 5:36 PM

Thanks. Anyweay, I have made another new map, as well as a WIP for a fake titlescreen for a Cubivore sequel, and I also have an animation for the flower on the map. Oh, and I also made a guide for quick animating for flowers and other like plants.

Here is the titlescreen. A bit basic, I know, but every letter on there was custom sprited.

Hope ya like.

Yuoaman June 23rd, 2008 7:43 AM

Awesome work!! Your tiles are just so amazing! Great Job Don Patch!

Alistair June 23rd, 2008 4:04 PM

Thanks for the comments.

Anyway, I have decided to add my new tiles to the PHO tileset, as well as some new ones I have made. Hope ya like.

Ryan Cordell June 23rd, 2008 4:24 PM

There's a bit of a perspective issue going on with the houses. Let's look at the least triangular one as an example, shall we?

Pokemon is a top-down esque game, it uses tiles in a fixed perspective and so on. Great.
The house now follows that rule of the standard Pokemon games, birds-eye view and all. Okay.
Now, let's take a look at the triangular house. Now, the house seems to feel less connected with that rule, seems to be 'higher' which results in, us, seeing the house as facing us than more towards the ground.

Then let's take a look at the dome. Most likely the worst casualty of a perspective error. It seems to be almost facing us directly than focusing on the ground or so, like the houses on the bottom, and my first example. Fix those, and you'll be better off. :3

That's because this is FR/LG style, not D/P/P

Ryan Cordell June 23rd, 2008 4:36 PM

It will be somewhat disorienting to those who can spot those tiny flaws. Please don't try to edge yourself on a style as an excuse. This is why it was criticism in the first place.

Alistair June 23rd, 2008 4:41 PM

That, and the fact that the dome is actually an oval, and not a perfect circle. Therefore, the dome is actually in the correct perspective. The triangular house may appear to be wrong too, but it is in the correct perspective. This is due to the way I made the roof, which I made that way because I do not like to overuse the same pattern. That, and the building is not that deep, just really wide.

Tyrantrum June 23rd, 2008 6:47 PM

I'm not asking to release it, but if ur adding the new ones to the PHO base, do u have an estimated release?

Alistair June 23rd, 2008 7:49 PM

Actually, I have not been making a PHO base. I never have. I just inserted those tiles from before for the heck of it, and made a map. Maybe someone will decide to make a base someday, but I doubt it.

Anyway, I will try to make some new tiles tomorrow, and I will try my hand at overworlds. Considering I will be making a fangame, most graphics are going to be custom, and all will be availabe to use.

Tyrantrum June 23rd, 2008 7:52 PM

OK, well, Forgotten Memory is in the midst of finishing a ROM Base, I think...:\
Well, GL with the OWs! ^^

Alistair June 25th, 2008 7:56 AM

Here is a map I made last night, which I call Mononobu Temple. The name was chosen at random, it has no intended meaning. Also, here is the updated PHO tileset with the well, and also another map I call Tomato Island. Mainly meant to be another custom Orange Island.

Freaky-Spriter June 25th, 2008 11:23 AM

Many times i see your sprites on many sites ...^^

You speak Russia?

I wanted to ask you if you may make me some tiles ... do you know the [clothes]shop H&M ... I need a tile of it ... it is 2 floors heigh ... and have a shoping window ... and at the top of the door is a shield ... were stands ... H&M ...

esli ty eto sdelaesch ja nesnaju chego sdelaju .. eto by bylo bolschaja pomaschj

Alistair June 25th, 2008 2:00 PM

@Ryan Cordell: Actually, there is very little restrictment. It may appear that way because of the height of the trees, but the only parts of the trees you cannot walk under are the three base tiles (and, of course, the areas where the trees are dense).

@Freaky-Spriter: Sorry, I do not do requests, nor do I speak Russian.

Ryan Cordell June 25th, 2008 2:02 PM

Good then! Maybe might I suggest spicing it up? Some berries or so?

Tyrantrum June 25th, 2008 5:49 PM

I found like 3 tile errors on ur range Island map.

Megiddo-san June 25th, 2008 5:55 PM

That tower will work great as a replacement for mine. I really like the trees and the, is it a well? The thing under the "tarp".

Tyrantrum June 25th, 2008 6:02 PM

Yep! ^^
That little thing is a well.

Freaky-Spriter June 26th, 2008 12:44 AM

Ohh okay ... Your tiles are very very good ...

Bekki June 26th, 2008 2:11 AM

That is some of the best work that I have seen. You have a knack for those kind of things. Good luck to you what ever you do with them.

Yuoaman June 26th, 2008 2:37 PM

Great Job, the updated PHO looks just great, can't wait to see more from you!

Alistair June 28th, 2008 6:31 PM

Thanks for the tips, Eeveon, but I was actually quite aware of the errors. I am just too lazy to fix them. And Ryan Cordell, I will make some berry plants eventually. I have always had some berries planned, ever since Ruby and Sapphire came out.

Anyway, I did do a little pixel art today. I made it for my blog (link will be posted in my signature and in my profile). It is supposed to be quite simple, which is why it is only in black, white, and gray.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/6236/good1cjg6.png

Tyrantrum June 28th, 2008 7:07 PM

Ohh, Ok.
I don't blame u! :P
After a big map like that, u were probably exhausted!

LOL, that skull looks kool! ^^
I like the glasses it's wearing!

Alistair June 29th, 2008 11:24 PM

Thanks. I would say that the [skullz] skull is my favorite creation (that I made myself).

Anyway, another PHO tileset update. I added some more city stuff to the tileset, including a fountain animation (6 frames regularly, 11 frames if reversed!). Here is a demo map to go with it, too. I like to call it Ironberg City. Ironberg City is a starting town. Now, you may notice the fence and the bench blocking the connection of the lower part to the upper one. This does not mean that youy need to go the long way around. All you need is Surf to cross over the pond, and you are there. The fence is there as a preventative of people going to the gym early and wiping there Pokémon out (Yay, fake game objectives!).

Nice.
Ur doing great.

Shanty007 June 30th, 2008 5:01 AM

can i give credits to you, than i use your tiltes?

Alistair June 30th, 2008 3:35 PM

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you like the city, because I kind of don't. And Shanty, of course you may.

Anyway, I made some tiles for a friend, and put them in this map. I call it Route 67. You might recognize the bottom part. That is because it is straight above Ironberg City, thus making it the first route.

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/9563/route67cd8.png

Please do not use the new tiles.

Please do not use the new tiles.

Excellent job! :D
I LOVE the mix between the grass and the mountain! ^^

Mitchman June 30th, 2008 10:25 PM

Wait. If we can use ironbergs tiles then why not the route 2? Im sorry but doesnt that defeat the purpose of ironbergs tileset being used?

lol im likin the random bench in your last map XD
it looks good Alistair! keep it up.
well, i think the bench (front view) looks kinda odd...

Thanks for the comments. Anyway, I tried my hand at making some DP tiles, and they aren't that good. Here they are anyway, as a part of the PHO tileset. Thaey are a part of the new DP section.http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/5963/thephotilesetri8.pngA map will be coming soon.

awesome, im inserting them to my hack right away, im lovin the benches and fountains!

Atomic Reactor July 8th, 2008 3:01 PM

o that looks pretty good man!
i htink the very tip of the tree, well uh, it should be al ittle wider.
idk how to explain it <_< the point part at top should have a wider base.
anyway, it looks great.
will you be doing more DP style?

Alistair July 8th, 2008 6:15 PM

Yes, in fact, I am working on a lab right now. I have the line art done already, so now all I need to do is color and shade. After that, basic house, a path, and then a map.

By the way, just because I am working on DP tiles, that doesn't mean I will stop making regular ones. And also, the tiles I am making are of my own ideas; they are not resprites like Kyledove's (though he does do his wonderfully), so many buildings will be new.

Atomic Reactor July 8th, 2008 9:26 PM

hmm. can't wait to see your new tiles :3

as always, keep up the great work.

iRawr-x July 9th, 2008 3:22 AM

Alistair July 9th, 2008 12:39 PM

Well, I made the lab. Just as a pre-warning, all my DP tiles will be in FR/LG proportions.

Atomic Reactor July 11th, 2008 9:45 AM

hey man.
i just noticed that the little round stone circle thing with the flowers in it.
it doesn't look like the perspective is right.
It looks like your looking right on top of it.
Just tryin to help ya out ;)

Samson July 11th, 2008 9:48 AM

stellar work as always! just one thing: i think you should revise the darker shaded tree (the spiky pine tree). the dark outlining is a bit too dark and is a bit of a distortion when it stands out too much on your maps (especially route 67). the trunk is a bit too dark as well.

but on that note, i love what you did with the grass. it's so much softer now.

InMooseWeTrust July 16th, 2008 1:36 PM

Wow! This stuff is truly amazing. You rival Wichu and others as the best pixel artist around here.
