Awesome! I was hoping you would post that. You have really improved a lot since I first joined here at PC. It looks wonderful, keep at it!

Fangking Omega December 16th, 2008 6:35 AM

All this work is looking amazing :) I'm finally starting to make some maps that implement your tiles now that I'm home. Keep it up!

Alistair December 16th, 2008 4:19 PM

Glad to hear you are using them, Fang.

Anyway, I have been pretty busy lately, so I have not been doing that much spriting. I did, however, make a new palm tree. Here is the updated set so far. I will make more beach tiles soon, as well as some more desert ones.

Vampire://Krimm December 16th, 2008 4:33 PM

Ooh, cute <3

I loove the new palm trees, -steals them and runs off- They all look incredibly awesome, Alistair~ Oh, oh, I can't wait to start mapping Hoenn, I'll definitely be using your desert tiles :D

Atomic Reactor December 16th, 2008 8:12 PM

So uh... are these tiles available for use?
I can't remember =/

They all look good... except for for the grass. it kinda looks like cabbage lol

Alistair December 17th, 2008 1:17 PM

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I just looked at the sprite again, and I noticed how aweful the trunk is. Here is a revised version of the tree with a better trunk. I included the old one, just for comparison.

Neo-Dragon December 17th, 2008 1:41 PM

The detail in that palm tree is crazy!
Good job with it.
I zoomed on on the shading of the leaves and they look amazing up close.

ARCoolguy December 19th, 2008 3:35 AM

Can you make a rom base with the PHO tileset

Alistair December 19th, 2008 4:18 PM

Thanks for the comments, guys. Glad you like the amount of detail I put in the palm, Neo-Dragon. And ARCoolguy, I can make a ROM base, but I won't. I do not have enough time to.

Anyway, a small update. I made some ocean tiles, and a new map. I do not really like the ocean tiles, so I will probably replace/redo them, but they are just proof that I am not dead.

Alistair, could you make a small tileset of Flowers and Plants please?
It's for my RMXP Game: Pokemon Agate Version.

Tyrantrum December 20th, 2008 11:37 AM

Hey Alistair, nice work as always! ^^

Maybe you can add a mountainous shadow under the trees, palm trees, and cactus'?
Anyways, good luck~

Whatever, Alistair u're a nice tiler. I hope you make City Tiles (houses, etc...)

4pikachu4 December 20th, 2008 2:31 PM

These new tiles are really cool, Don.

I mean, Alistair.

I hope that people are crediting you properly now, I'd hate for your tiles to be messed up by the jpeg format.

Well, all of them are looking great as usual. Keep it up.

/Circa December 20th, 2008 6:24 PM

The tree palette is a bit dark, so it soughta sticks out too much.
Plus the sign looks a bit flat. Other than that, good work.

..PandA.CharadE.. December 23rd, 2008 7:17 PM

The tree palette is a bit too dark.

The shading you did is very nice. Some of the colors you used are well..too bright like the tiles for Middlefield. The Overall, your sprites are very good. Keep up the good work.

-..PandA.CharadE..

Alistair December 23rd, 2008 9:33 PM

Thanks for the comments. You said the tree palette is too dark, so I instead darkened the grass palette! I also make a stucco house (which I think is too light). Hope you like!

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3218/tileset7bde5.png

By the way, sorry for the slowness on my spritings. I have been really busy.

rhevarhe_duh December 24th, 2008 1:20 AM

the stucco house isn't too light. it's perfect! i love it. ^^

Alistair December 24th, 2008 10:19 AM

Thanks for the only comment, rhevarhe_duh.

Anyway, I reorganized the set, as well as added a couple of small things and made a small map. The map isn't really meant to be anything spectacular.

I think you should make the grass on the sand tile stand out more. It blends in too much. The stucco house isn't too light. It's just right.

I agree, if you made every thing darker you would be going into kyledove's and saurav's style. we come here because we preffer light and bright palletes. I'm not saying that there styles aren't good I'm mearly saying that there needs to be a veriaty of styles so that people who can't sprite(like me) can choose how there game looks.

Unliimited January 1st, 2009 4:09 PM

Awsome

These are the best tiles on Pokecommunity. Hope you make loads and loads. As soon as I learn how to insert tiles, then I'll visit this thread.

Alistair January 1st, 2009 7:53 PM

Just because I made them a bit darker does not mean that I desaturated them like Kyledove does. If you would take the time to compare, my newest tiles are a bit more "poppy" than his (though the house tile is still a little dull). I will probably make an alternative palette for them anyway, though, so do not worry. Anyway, I should be getting a new mouse soon, so I will be able to sprite again. Since I got a new laptop for Christmas, I will also be attempting to learn C, so my spriting will not go as fast as usual.

iBlade January 2nd, 2009 7:58 AM

I love em

keep it up i hope to see more of this good work .

and by the way a question . can you make some indoor tiles ?

Alistair January 2nd, 2009 3:01 PM

Well, I got a new mouse today, and I made a few quick tiles, as well as an Oldale revamp.

@Feaky: Actually, I am going to start on those next.

Everything is well done, the thing that still puts me off is that the greenery palette is too dark. The trees aren't too dark, but the ground needs some refining :P.
Good luck.

Yes, the vast majority of his tiles are in the public domain and can be used by anyone. However, there are some tile sheets that he specifically tells you not to use.

NitroF January 2nd, 2009 5:52 PM

Wow, Don [i like callin you that :P]

I seem to LOVE the tiles, PC and Mart and by far my favourite. I love EVERY tile you make! From your fan, xD, Nitro. [xDDD]

4pikachu4 January 2nd, 2009 8:04 PM

Your Oldale is awesome! I am loving these new tiles you're putting out, Alistair.

I think that the buildings are all very well made, and look awesome!
Keep up the awesome work.

Samson January 2nd, 2009 8:11 PM

i really like that new pokecenter, but it just feels a bit scaled on the width, making it seem other-worldly. id suggest extending the width a bit, adding space in between the glass door and the window-sphere structure that extends outward (to the right of the door).

Alistair January 3rd, 2009 10:40 AM

Thanks for the comments, guys. Samson, I know the Pokémon Center is "horizontally challenged." I made it that way on purpose. I felt like making a tall, skinny Pokémon Center, I will likely make a wider version, though.

Anyway, I decided to make a tilesheet to see how far I have come in spriting outdoor tiles, and it is enormous (I only included tiles that I am letting people use, AKA the ones that are my style and not Kyledove's). I also think that I have come pretty far since my first attempts at spriting. The sheet is hidden in spoiler tags due to its sheer size. Also, if you see some tiles that I made for you that you would like removed, just say so.

Lady Berlitz January 3rd, 2009 12:25 PM

Wow, that should be really helpful! Good job, Alistair.
And yes, I noticed that you have improved since your original tiles. Good job!

4pikachu4 January 3rd, 2009 10:14 PM

One. Massive. Collection.

Totally loving it.

This is really great, and in my opinion, your progress has been awesome. When I compare the revamped-g/s/c tiles to the ones you have today? Unbelieveable. I love your new techniques of coloring and texturizing, and I honestly don't have anything bad to say about any of it.

Great work, Keep it up.

InMooseWeTrust January 4th, 2009 5:15 AM

Alistair, I will soon be making an RMXP compatible tileset showcasing all of the tiles on that massive sheet you just posted.

Samson January 4th, 2009 2:38 PM

wow, never saw the hexagonal gym building before. it's really awesome.

TB Pro January 7th, 2009 2:44 PM

Wow, this is awesome. I see you have made a lot of tiles...That comtemplation is VERY helpful, thanks. Just to be clear though, we ARE allowed to use ALL of them, correct? Why I say so, is because some of them are tiles you previously asked not to be used. These are the tiles I mean(circled in red)

~Dynasty January 7th, 2009 2:53 PM

wow a nintendo ds house lol

Atomic Reactor January 7th, 2009 2:55 PM

the reason he said that was because they were going to be exclusively used in peoples games.
But, 2 of them that i know of are no longer in production, and the other... well, no one has really herd anything on it.
The crane.. well idk, but yes, all these tiles are now available to the public.

Alistair January 7th, 2009 4:34 PM

AR basically answered everything. But, as I said in the post with the sheet in it, if any of the authors of the games I made those for would like to use them exclusively again, I am obliged to remove them. As for the crane, Captain Arcane never used it, so I quietly made it availabe to the public.

Anyway, I have not done much spriting lately. Too much time spent on my Xbox 360, my Dreamcast, and playing with Windows 7 (which is amazing, though Paint automatically antialiases diagonal lines, something that I don't like). I have also been doing service hours so I can graduate from highschool (it is a requirement, sadly). I did draw a pixel pear, though. I did it by hand on my touchpad, so it is not very good.

I have always wanted a huge sheet like this!!
my favorite is the crurch.

Atomic Reactor January 7th, 2009 6:51 PM

sweet pear dude :]
do you plan on coloring it and such?
Pears are my favorite fruit too :)

but yeah, pretty decent for using a touch pad

Lady Berlitz January 8th, 2009 5:01 AM

Yeah, I wonder what it would look like if you colored it, added shading, etc. I can imagine it looking very nice.
If you colored it in the same way as Kyledove's style, then I can imagine it looking a lot nicer.

he had it in an earlier post.

dude, you never fixed that one door on that building..(below towers, left of prison)
it still lacks color and shading :[

Axdudexx January 12th, 2009 6:50 AM

your pro at this man! keep up the awesome work!!!

Alistair January 12th, 2009 7:05 PM

@A_R: Yeah, I know that door still doesn't have shading. I thought I fixed it earlier, but upon checking it before uploading the sheet, I noticed that I didn't.

Anyway, I have started work on the indoor tileset. Here is what I have so far. It is not much, but I have been really busy lately.

I agree. new palettes for th t.v. but other than that they all look great.

๒inaryקlastic January 24th, 2009 8:30 AM

I think your work is absolutely AMAZING! Really thiugh, I couldn't put it into words!

I have been making comics etc. for about 6 Months now and I always use your tiles! People always comment on how good they are, and I have to remind them that it was you who did it!

You're an inspiration and a humongous help!

I think it would be great if you kept going with the indoor tiles, they're looking fabulous!

Also, I know you don't take requests, but I think it would be good if you could do a Camp set, like a tent and fire etc.

Yours Truthfully

P.S. Keep going with those great Tiles!

Alistair January 25th, 2009 6:00 PM

Yeah, I can definately agree that some of the indoor palettes need to be changed. I have not really been doing anything pixel-related lately. I did, though, draw a freehand caricature of someone about 5 minutes ago (with a mouse, of course. I wish I had a tablet). I know it is bad, and I am not proud of it at all, but here it is anyway (just to prove I am not dead).

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/5619/finishedks4.png

Of course, it is not finished, but it is at the same time. ;)

Atomic Reactor January 25th, 2009 7:48 PM

lol looks pretty decent. the neck is kinda weird though.
i would have made the left line for it on the other side of the chin

Lady Berlitz January 26th, 2009 1:46 PM

Haha, yeah, it's an alright drawing for Paint. I understand that it takes a lot of correct lines to make it look to your likings, and there's a lot of Undo involved. I hope you show some udpate to that image, I'd like to some kind of changes of the sprite's color, shading, outline, etc. Or maybe some other kind of update. :P

InMooseWeTrust January 28th, 2009 9:49 AM

Alistair, I made some RMXP autotiles with your stuff.

I made more but I'll post them later. They're for my game (Pokémon: Hall of Fame).

Alistair January 28th, 2009 12:38 PM

Yes, well, I will never finish that pic, Esmas. I drew it because I was bored.

@ InMooseWeTrust: Good to see some people in Game Dev using my animated tiles. I had already made the autotiles for them a while ago, but they were deleted.

Anyway, I have not been very busy, as you can all see. I did make just a couple more tiles, so here they are. I have yet to redo any palettes, though.

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8697/tileset7tiledej2yy1.png

NEW!
I just made an inside map with the new indoor tiles. Well, here ya go.

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/1106/smallinsidemap1ht6.png

InMooseWeTrust January 29th, 2009 1:47 PM

As you may have guessed, I'm in the process of making an outdoor tileset with your stuff. Can you make some more indoor tiles so there's enough to make a full indoor tileset? I would LOVE to use something like that...

Lady Berlitz January 29th, 2009 5:02 PM

Hm, I think that you should lighten the colors on a few of your indoor tiles. I find a few of them a little bit difficult to see the detail and main idea in them, mainly being the bookcase, small indoor plant, and television set.

But, I'm glad to see that you're making an indoor tileset.

Alistair January 29th, 2009 8:17 PM

Well, like I said, I pushed out a couple more tiles before I messed with the palettes. I will do that though. I can easily agree that the TV and the tree are too dark. The bookcase, on the otherhand, looks fine to me, but that could be because I have a super-bright screen.

doesn't matter January 30th, 2009 12:24 AM

To be honest I never really dug your choice of colours in this tileset... until I saw the indoor tiles (it just completes the set somehow). I think the colours you chose are perfect and consistent throughout the set. I look forward to seeing more.

hallokaka January 30th, 2009 9:39 AM

I'm pretty sure Alistair said those tiles were exclusively for use by Pokemon Acanthite.
So I doubt you will be able to use them for your hack.
(Just a suggestion Alistair, if these tiles are exclusive for use by Pokemon Acanthite, maybe you should remove that sign in the bottom right corner and replace it with something like "Pokemon Acanthite exclusive tiles, NO one may use.")

Alistair January 30th, 2009 9:42 PM

Here, I updated the banner at the bottom. And no, you may not use them, hallokaka.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8349/acanthitetilesetgt4.png

Anyway, I tried redoing the palettes for the TV and the potted tree. Here is what I have.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8573/newpalette1lx7.png

sab January 31st, 2009 1:25 PM

Wow! those pallettes look much better. Especially on the tree.

Alistair February 1st, 2009 2:49 AM

Glad you like the new palettes. If others like them too, the new ones will replace the old ones on the next tileset update. Anyway, I decided to revamp Route 101 to demonstrate that new tree I made. Hope you like it, because it only took 10 minutes in Paint, and I really couldn't care less for it (I was a bit lazy to actually make my own map, and I kinda did not have enough time, either).

10 minutes O.O
man that looks great .. really ..
keep up your work ..

Lady Berlitz February 1st, 2009 11:28 AM

It looks pretty good, but the grass palette looks too... Strong? Solid? Dark? Normally the main grass is weaker and brighter than the trees and doesn't use such a powerful color. Maybe saturate and brighten them?

Yuoaman February 5th, 2009 12:21 PM

I like what you have there Don, I really want to see some updates XD

Disturbed February 7th, 2009 12:31 PM

Are you ever going to release any of your tiles with 'Kyledove Shading?' I think that is your strong point ;)
Anyways, keep up the phenomenal work!

Snipe Fire February 7th, 2009 12:39 PM

Woah, never knew that backgrounds could be so detailed. Great job!

Alistair February 8th, 2009 4:08 PM

Thanks for the comments, guys. I've been sick the past week, so I have not really done anything.

@ Esmas: I've been thinking of changing the palettes of the grass. I have tried twice, but the palettes didn't really go because of the way the tile was sprited. I'm going to keep on trying, though.

@ Disturbed: I might convert them to Kyledove-esque palettes if enough people want me to. The point of this set was to deviate away from it, though.

Anyway, a here is a drawing I did at school a while ago. It was completely freehanded, no tools (except for the pen tool) were used.

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/5149/marioscenerc8.png

Atomic Reactor February 8th, 2009 4:12 PM

ha thats a sweet picture :]
do you plan on coloring it or anything?

Alistair February 8th, 2009 4:17 PM

This is one I actually might color. I don't know, though. I keep saying that but I never do it (and I am addicted to Animal Crossing: City Folk at the moment).

Atomic Reactor February 8th, 2009 4:24 PM

as well you should be. its an awesome game :]
you should try making AC tiles :O
just a thought, to get out of the pokemon style.

sab February 9th, 2009 5:19 AM

The mario land looks cool! The "?" blocks and the normal blocks look identical!

Atomic Reactor February 9th, 2009 1:23 PM

thats probably because he just copy and pasted them..

Yuoaman February 9th, 2009 1:38 PM

lol

Yeah, no one is going to be patient enough to draw several blocks that are supposed to look exactly alike.

Alistair February 10th, 2009 5:22 PM

Of course drawing out each individual block would be kind of useless. I mean, I'll use what I already have.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. Atomic Reactor, I was thinking about doing Animal Crossing tiles, as well as doing a fangame to go with them, but I do not really have time to do the fangame. This, of course, means I will probably attempt to make some tiles. They will be 32x32 for each tile, though, so they don't look too shoddy. Anyway, I made a new tree for Pokémon Odyssey, since Waudby is now under fire for stealing sprites again. It only took a couple minutes to make, but note the banner at the bottom: Do not use! If Waudby does do something like claim he sprited it, I will allow people to use it, but since I am posting it here (and he might take notice of my thread), hands off, please.

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9125/newtreeblahot9.png

Neo-Dragon February 10th, 2009 5:37 PM

It looks really well and will fit nicely into his maps.
Edit:
The animal crossing idea sounds good. I'm sure it would be cool to try your hand at a different style of tiles.

Rabbit February 13th, 2009 8:08 PM

I really like the grass you posted with your palm trees. It's such a small thing, but very useful - my grass never looks like anything remotely organic. Recoloured, your tile makes a fantastic desert grass.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/Dawncat/clip_desertgrass.png

Alistair February 14th, 2009 1:14 AM

Thanks, good to see you are using it. I don't know why, but I like to make small tiles for details.

Anyway, a couple of things before I start on the Animal Crossing tiles: here are some new tiles I made, as well as an smilie set, and an indoor map. Hope you like.

EDIT: Here is a test of my new smilies. http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18772 I am feeling very dangerous right now. http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18768 Well, using them isn't exactly efficient, and they are quite big, but whatever. http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18766

EDIT 2: Forgot to mention: You don't have to credit me every time you use them. Just please credit me somewhere if you decide to use them on your bulletin board or whatever.

Great job Alistair! I love the angled screen on the desk, I've never seen that done before - very original.
You keep improving at such a rapid pace, I cant wait to see what else you come up with.

The tiles look great! I think that the cpu is the best one though!

Lady Berlitz February 14th, 2009 5:06 AM

Very nice smiley set and tileset, Alistair! There's still something about the television and computer (I think that's a computer) that is odd. I think it's still too dark for some reason... The trees in the tileset are great, too!

Atomic Reactor February 14th, 2009 8:24 AM

ahahaaha i love the smileys!
the tiles are slick too.
i think since they are a different style, the colors for the TV are perfectly fine.

Thanks for the comments, guys. They are really appreciated. http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18762

Anyway, my mouse just broke (USB connector "fell off". Actually, my brother tried unplugging it and yanked the cord a little too hard and in the wrong direction), so I probably won't be able to sprite anything significant for a couple days. http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18784

On a lighter note, happy Valentine's Day! http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2844&pictureid=18792

Yuoaman February 18th, 2009 3:39 PM

Amazing stuff Don! Those indoor tiles are simply beautiful!

Hall Of Famer February 18th, 2009 3:43 PM

Your tiles have always been one of the best I have ever found. Please keep this up.

Alistair February 23rd, 2009 3:10 PM

Thanks for the comments, guys (wow, typing at an angle is wierd). I got a new mouse a while ago (actually, the Monday following breakage), but I have not been up to much. Here is a preview of what I have doing lately. This will most definately be finished, as I need to use it as a banner for my band.

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/1636/wickedcitybanner.png

When I am done, it is going to say Wicked City, which is the name of my band. I obviously have a bit to do left, but I am dedicating my weekends to spriting tiles for Fangking (which I am no longer going to showcase, seeing as people like to PM me about using them).

Atomic Reactor February 23rd, 2009 3:42 PM

that looks awesome dude.
how much more do you plan on adding?

Alistair February 23rd, 2009 3:46 PM

Well, considering it is supposed to say Wicked City, I have to add two Cs, a K, an E, a D, another I, a T, and a Y. Like I said, quite a bit. I have it all drawn out how I want it, but I don't have a scanner.

Atomic Reactor February 23rd, 2009 4:10 PM

-.-

i meant like, to the city lol.
i knew you were going to add letters..
i just didnt know if you were done with the city..

Alistair February 23rd, 2009 4:12 PM

Oh. no, of course not. Each letter is going to contain unique buildings, so none will be copied.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

sab February 23rd, 2009 6:06 PM

Wow! Looks really good! Your band must be lucky to have you to design banners.
