Pokefan2008 September 4th, 2007 1:15 PM

it could be the internal battery

absol_master September 4th, 2007 1:19 PM

i dont know when i play my fire red on it , it saves
weird

Pokefan2008 September 4th, 2007 1:26 PM

the game's internal battery,it only last like 6 years i think

absol_master September 4th, 2007 1:28 PM

hmm weird never heard of that
and i had just bought it too

Pokefan2008 September 4th, 2007 1:50 PM

o somethings wrong with it then,is it used, has to be,bet the person used it for 6 years, also i do not think they make that game any more

Ayano Katagiri September 5th, 2007 12:54 AM

The problem usually with the older GBC and GB games right now is the internal battery. After being around for so long, those batteries that causes the save files to stay usually run out and then are unable to save. The way to fix this is by replacing the battery after opening the case and installing a new battery.

Was the one you bought brand new? Seeing as I'm pretty sure they no longer make those anymore...

absol_master September 5th, 2007 1:50 PM

how do u replace the battery on the gameboy or the game?

Pokefan2008 September 5th, 2007 1:54 PM

Ok, the answer here is that the games battery has run dry. The game uses a battery to keep the save data memory active when youre not playing it. When this battery gets low or runs dry it is unable to store its save data anymore. It is possible to replace the battery but you have to take it into an electronics store (I took mine into a battery store) and hope that they have the right battery it needs.

from a guy in yahoo

absol_master September 5th, 2007 1:56 PM

ok so its on the game thanks

Pokefan2008 September 5th, 2007 1:56 PM

your welcome! i saw it on yahoo so... your welcome!

nrox653 September 5th, 2007 5:06 PM

Well, just like the other people said, you need to get the right kind of battery and replace the old one. I'm not exactly sure which type of battery fits, and it's really risky as you might screw up with the electrical tape or the soldering gun and damage the game. It's best to go to GameStop or some other game store and ask them if they can replace it for you. And eh, I seem to recall getting a dead Crystal version when I bought a used one, and I think they replaced the battery so it would work again.

Dark Azelf September 6th, 2007 12:04 PM

Ive also heard that if you leave your game on until you game gets up to 100 hours of play, it re-charges the battery for a period of time.(When doing Plug your gameboy in though, don use batterys when doing this)

could anyone confirm this ?

Giga Universe September 13th, 2007 6:45 AM

I had to replace mine. I used the guide on wikipedia It tells you exactly which one

GOPgabe September 13th, 2007 4:45 PM

If you seriously wish to play it. May I suggest an emulator? Very Helpful. If not then yes you are going to have to get a new battery.

absol_master September 13th, 2007 4:49 PM

LOL how rare.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Console_emulator

Step one: Find an emulator No$Gba, VBA, etc.
Step two: find the ROM, GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND.
Step 3: Play the rom on the emulator.
Neat, eh? or At least this is what I do.

Yoshi318 September 13th, 2007 6:54 PM

ya, go for the emulator...i suggest the vba, i havnt had any problems with it...but its entirely up to you.....

Emulators are great and I never knew about that 6 year thing at all. Thats why my Crystal stopped playing. It would of made sense to make the battery longer than 6 years. And I hope they make a remake for these games

I don't know about that. It makes sense on a certain level in that Nintendo had the foresight to know that eventually, the GBC would be just as obsolete as the original Gameboy, so people would tend to be more interested in the newer consoles and games that came out every few years, before the games played on the dying console blink out due to age.

Also, yes, emulators are fine for GBC games. For newer games, you may run into problems, like fog-filled areas in Ruby/Sapphire being nearly impossible to navigate through if you don't know the layout already or DS ROMs simply not saving. Depends on the ROM, I suppose.

Pokefan2008 September 14th, 2007 1:31 PM

Tanooki September 14th, 2007 10:27 PM

Such a disappointing flaw to an otherwise great set of games.

Interesting that Red/Blue/Yellow never went through the same problem... at least not on my end. I don't know if any recorded cases for those have happened like with Gold/Silver/Crystal.

I've bought the battery for my Crystal version... but still haven't gotten around to putting it in. It's easier said then done.

Pokefan2008 September 15th, 2007 6:05 AM

then just ask somebody to put it for you

This is happening with my blue. And the battery is fine i mean it still worked after 6 ithink about 8.That's when i heard of Missingno. and 'M,showed my friend,he catches them on my game, now eternal battery save memory busted,it only works if i save every 2 minute and don't get any badges, and now the slightest bump will freeze it.

Actually, that might be because you screwed around with Missingno. A drain on the internal battery doesn't cause the game to freeze, and Missingno has been known to mess with save files on some occasions.

But if it's a new game, it might also be something else with the cartridge itself. As in, you may have actually abused it too much (because, as I've said before, the game shouldn't freeze if your internal battery is messed up).

DarkLugiaMaster Gir September 16th, 2007 9:49 AM

Oh,i not saying the memory thing is causing it to freeze. All is it's seriosly messed up,than an normal gltch,or battery would occur. And it murdered a metapod when it froze(it got cut up like100 times). And the thing with it being plugged in is known to work,in an old forum some one showed it working when it's plugged it for 100 hours on a new game(even if you save it gives you back your old memory).Just don't shut it off.And if it was to happen on RSE,theres a 100000 to one chance of finding Celebi on a certain route(just a legend but weird since he's the pokemon of time),it was either the memory or time function.

absol_master September 16th, 2007 11:41 AM

hmm i havent seen missingno at all so yeah i know it wasnt that

Te-em September 30th, 2007 12:16 PM

I've heard fakes have batteries that don't last very long. Can you get a fake Pokemon game working like a normal if you insert a better battery.
And one more thing, if you remove the cartridge while playing it can damage the game right? Or just the battery?

DanKiba8 September 30th, 2007 12:54 PM

the same thing happened with mine and my bros games i tihnk it was a manufacturing error
