How do catch shinys?

I mean i heard a few ways how to catch shiny pokemon 1.Chaining (now idea what that even means) 2.Pokerader no idea how to use it to your advantage 3.Stay up all night finding one i did that but the chances were to grate

TwilightBlade September 7th, 2007 5:32 PM

This might be helpful...
Chaining/pokeradaring are the same thing. Basically, use a repel and a strong pokemon and run into a nice stretch of grass. Register the pokeradar and activate it and run into a shaking patch to see a pokemon and defeat it. After that, the grass will shake again and by following the chaining rules, you can keep on seeing more of the same pokemon in a row. If a shiny is nearby, the grass will sparkle dramatically and make sure to run into that and catch a shiny. ;D

FINALLY a actual answer THANKS

Malik September 7th, 2007 6:05 PM

umm, quick question... egg hatching to get shinnies? or is the PokeRadar more efficient?

TwilightBlade September 7th, 2007 6:06 PM

Chaining shinies would be easier/quicker but hatching shinies might be more effective for battling (like passing on egg moves, natures, etc). Also, chaining limits you to only wild grass roaming pokemon. For others like a Riolu, you would have to hatch for a shiny.

Malik September 7th, 2007 6:08 PM

... how is it more effective for Feebas? (i'm trying to get one shiny)

Bishopk September 7th, 2007 6:08 PM

Hatching is the same rate as non-radar catching, 1/8000-something (Somebody's going to post with the exact ratio in a moment...)

Well, I think it would be better for Feebas since I believe they're pretty rare in the wild. Hatching can take a pretty long time since the ratio is 1/8192... And that doesn't mean after 8000 eggs, you'll get it very soon... Could take a million eggs for some.

Edit: Uhh yeah Shiny Surskit, if you're not willing to be helpful, then get out of here.

SaintLuke September 7th, 2007 6:10 PM

:D i never got a shiny so how long do you think this should take?

Malik September 7th, 2007 6:10 PM

Okay... so eggs are funner (more fun whatever...) i think.

(1/8192)

I still believe that eggs are the most effective way of getting shinys (not hacking i mean >_<)

SaintLuke September 7th, 2007 6:15 PM

I mean like just in wild chaining

Malik September 7th, 2007 6:16 PM

a while i think... eggs take a while, but its all random.

stfu and gtfo reterd :(

I think hatching would be the best way since you have some control over the natures (if you use the Everstone thing, for example), and you could pass some good egg moves. If you're not interested in that, then just use the PokeRadar thingimajiggermabob.

SaintLuke September 7th, 2007 6:38 PM

Err ok gotcha now i know how to get shinys

Shiny Umbreon September 7th, 2007 6:44 PM

Oh and if anyone wanted to know, the percentage of catching a shiny without pokeradar is 0.0001220703125%, 0.0001% for short.

J_zero September 7th, 2007 11:43 PM

Actually there is no certain way on how to catch one you just have to use the pokeradar, chaining with it, in hope you can raise the chances of finding one, and of course lots of pacience ;)

eamonn September 8th, 2007 12:29 AM

There is no surefire way of encountering a shiny.
