Any help with the dowsing machine?

I've spent almost 7 hours in the Safari Zone and in the snow trying to find items because I heard there's a plate that can be found there for my(sadly, cheated) Arceus, but the dowsing machine feature(assuming this graph-like thing that beaps and makes circles whenever I touch it isthe dowsing machine feature in the first place) doesn't do crap for me, and now I've added even more hours to my game which has dozens of hours trying to catch shinies, to no luck. Any tips?

if u want plates u should go underground cause some can only be found there.

I've been there too, but those are so rare I just pretty much shut down before I manage to find anything useful..

Wrong. All the plates can be found by the Itemfinder/Dowsing Machine.

On topic, if you touch and there are circles, it means there's an item nearby. Keep walking near the place you touched until it actually shows a dot. That's a hidden item.

I tried that, but never seen a dot..ugh, why couldn't they just keep the itemfinder; it's so much easier.

Oh that plate?I think the one in the safari zone is located at the most top right corner. Try using the dowsing machine there.

Shiny Umbreon September 12th, 2007 6:53 PM

NO, this is easier.

Look, if you touch the screen and see circles, (for example you touched the upper left corner) try touching the other corners. Obviously not all will have circles (unless you're on top of the item already) If, for example, the upper corners had circles, the item's obviously to the north. So go a few steps to the north. Now keep touching. If it's not in the upper corners, it means you walked too much, or that the item is near you or a bit at the back. Eventually, you will follow the circles until reaching the dot.

That was in the FAQ. I think this person doesn't even know how to use the Dowsing Machine at all.

Okay, thanks to Umbreon up there, I finally managed to find my first item via the dowsing machine finally, only it was a crappy Protein you can buy off the department store any day of the goddamn week. Saved and tried some more, but it was futile and I didn't want to add any more hours to my game, so I shut down.

Here's a list:
Draco Plate - Eterna City
Dread Plate - Lost Tower
Earth Plate - Oreburgh Cave
Fist Plate - Route 215
Flame Plate - Stark Mountain
Icicle Plate - Route 217
Insect Plate - Old Chateau
Iron Plate - Iron Mountain
Meadow Plate - Route 210
Mind Plate - Solaceon Ruins
Sky Plate - Pokemon League (Victory Road exit)
Splash Plate - Route 219
Spooky Plate - Amity Square
Stone Plate - Mount Coronet
Toxic Plate - The Great Marsh (A2)
Zap Plate - Sunyshore City

I'll try to get a scan of my Great Marsh map so I can send you a screenshot of the location of the Plate, but if you find it before that, then that's great. Be sure to go to Area 2, then go to the far corner and use it. That's where I think it is.

If you are looking for the Icicle Plate outside of Snowpoint, you should already have it, since you get it when you recieve the Rock Climb HM.

Sorry, I didn't see it.

And, I just confirmed that the Toxic Plate is ALL the way Northeast in the Great Marsh.

Gachaking September 12th, 2007 9:52 PM

Yeah, in Area 2 or something, I believe, close to where you find the Great Ball, I believe. As a matter of fact, I got it a couple of hours ago there thanks to the tip given by Umbreon there, but turns out my DS was completely out of battery, and I'm currently residing where I can't charge, so sucks for me.
