Does chaining work for you?

I've been chaining for shinies since tuesday, and it's quite tough i admit but i've found a shiney sneasel and Shellos

My brother has tried it for the same period and has had no luck, finding only a shiney Starly but being unable to catch it

So it's obvious the results vary from person to person.

Does chaining work for you?

P.s this is not a trade thread, so no discussion of trades please

Lumine September 13th, 2007 6:09 AM

Yeh once out of like 20 tries lol, caught myself a shiny Electrike

ShadowTails September 13th, 2007 6:12 AM

>_> I made a topic sorta like this a while back, but it was called "How does chaining work for you?"

Anyways I just caught a Shiny Zubat this morning (Adamant!) oh and if my signature isn't enough proof that Chaining works well for me, I dunno what is.

wow that's some collection

I'm currently trying to get a Bidoof, start small lol

mustbe18toryde September 13th, 2007 6:16 AM

Shiny Cubone after many tries lol.

Master Exploder September 13th, 2007 11:19 AM

I've never successfully chained a shiny. I've chained for hours and never found one.

msdmario September 13th, 2007 1:06 PM

I used to chain earlier but I've concluded that chaining is a big waste of time after my 47 chain of Electrike was broken by a stupid Buizel. I never saw a single shiny patch in those two hours that I chained for a shiny Electrike.

Drakorn September 13th, 2007 2:28 PM

Yes it does work for me, I found a shiny chansey today but was unable to catch it as I had a level 1 with me and great balls were beating to 3 but anyways, thats my luck.

I Usually Get My Shinies After 25....Wtf Is Wrong With Your Game?

zer0vrs September 13th, 2007 2:33 PM

i have to say it works for me. i got a shiny pichu and shiny sneasel in only 8 chains which i think is crazy. i hear people usually go past 40 or whatever. its all about patience and stuff. im trying to catch a shiny pinsir, and its taking me all week. but, i only stop playing once my chain is broken, so i usually play like 20 or 30 min a day, just chaining until its broken, than i quit.

Bathing Ape September 13th, 2007 3:52 PM

I find it's different with everything, i chained over 40 today to get my Shellos and only around 30 for Sneasel

zer0vrs September 13th, 2007 5:02 PM

i chained 35 pinsirs but than it got broken by a friggin weepingbell:pirate:
so, i turned it off eventhough i gained 2 lvls with my glaceon. it took me like 1 1/2 hrs.
well, theres always tomorrow

J-Rad September 13th, 2007 5:06 PM

it does not work for me because...
1) i'm too impatient
2) I'm the unluckiest guy on the planet.

ThePlaya September 13th, 2007 5:16 PM

haha i havnt had ANY luck with chianing......they always get broken BEFORE NINE!!!!!!!!now that is freaking annoying.

haffeysucks September 13th, 2007 5:37 PM

I caught a Shiny Kricketune while chaining to EV train, but when I was chaining for Shiny Ponyta, nothing. And I have two chains of 34 and 23. :/

Chaining is simply too easy from me now, lol.

If you ever hear stories about someone getting 36 shiny Ralts from a chain, that's me, btw.

1st step, forget everything about your life and do nothing but stare at your screen and reset the Pokeradar with 999 of every Repel you can get in game >.>... not really, but yeah I don't see the point in having 36 of the same shiny, I mean the most I have is 8 Slakoths, only 2 of them are even worth using IMO, I might just use the others to trade, no point in letting them collect dust in my box right?

RLan69 September 13th, 2007 9:12 PM

What Pokeradar technique do you use, ShadowTails? Do shiny patches show up or don't they? Also, is there any "sure-fire" (Pokeradar-esque) way to get shinies from fishing or caves?

Gachaking September 13th, 2007 9:19 PM

That was what I was going to ask also, only I was just wondering, assuming that the Pokeradar works on water and in caves and not just grass(never used it before in my life), does that mean that fishing in the spot will generate a Shiny also? I ask this because I'm one of those who'd really like a shiny Gyarados as part of my collection, since I only have 2 legit shinies, though if we're talking non-legit(i.e. hacked) I've got nearly 400.

ShadowTails September 14th, 2007 11:32 AM

If you would check the FAQ you'd see my write up on chaining.

On another note, Pokeradar only works in the grass.

Practice, Practice, Practice. That's the only advice I can give you, train your eyes while you train your Pokemon, I managed to get a Decent chain of Diglet going before it broke, but yeah I was in the car too so that would explain a lot. I recommend a Dark Room so you can actually see somewhat better, I have heard if you have a lite to make it on the highest brightness setting helps too.
