Mega Flare February 15th, 2008 1:13 AM

I have caught 2 shinies without PokeRadar,
One Red Gyarados in the Lake where you find Mesprit (lawl! The search for the Red Gyarados! < See start of game). I was fishing with my Super Rod, EVing my Garchomp, then the mystical Red Gyarados appeared! Lol.
My second one was a Shiny Illumise.
I was levelling up my already-EV'd Garchomp and poof! Shiny Illumise!
Both on the same week, I think.

The Gyarados was caught at 11:02 P.M., December 25.
Illumise was caught at 2:48 A.M., December 26.
Huweeeeh!

For the first time I've started some intense breeding (no childish comments xD) in preparation for making my team. Finding it hard though so to supress my impatience and anger, I think I'll go slap some trainers in the Battle Tower.

I'm not really clued up on how the Pokéradar and chains work. :(

However I've caught some shinies in the wild, including: Wailmer, Nidoran(male), Burmy, Dratini, Clampearl, Togepi(hatched), Gastly, Roselia and Magikarp.

nich1jb February 20th, 2008 6:20 AM

My highest chain is 43 with Shinxs and I got a shiny. :)

Although I haven't had the chance, I think I can help you out on the Chaining part.

Chaining is when you face off against the same Pokémon.

Say, you found a Shinx via Pokéradar. You can defeat it or Catch it, and the Pokéradar will show you more locations (You can't run otherwise the Chain and Pokéradar will reset). But when you defeat Shinx, the Pokéradar shows more Wild Pokémon Locations. If you find another Shinx, you have a Chain initiated with 2. So you find 1 Shinx that initiates again, and you find another Shinx right after making it a 2 Chain. If you find another Pokémon (Say Bidoof for example), the Chain will break so if you get Shinx Shinx Bidoof, the Chain will become a 2-Chain and break at the Bidoof. Best way to find the same Pokémon to Chain is to search the Grass FURTHEST away from you. Also, don't go straight upwards, as your Character blocks your field of view thus making a possibility of another Pokémon being there. One last thing I was told was that the higher your Chain, the more Chance you have of spotting a Shiny Pokémon. There should be a Pokétch Add-on to allow you to review your top 3 Chains.

That's about all I know. That is 90% Reliable however so it might work or might not. Hope this makes more sense now. If you have any Questions I'm a Private Message away.

You're welcome. I live by the Phrase:
"If in doubt, throw it out!"

Anything else you're unsure about?

Marksman March 14th, 2008 5:56 AM

Don't let it get you down. Keep trying and Eventually, you'll Succeed.
Although I know someone who lives by the Phrase:
"If at first you don't succeed...CHEAT!"
But the Proper one is:
"If at first you don't succeed, Try Harder!"
And that's what I suggest to you. Keep going.

My friend used the poke radar obsesivly on alot of stuff and now he gets a shiny every other pokemon without it the highest i have chained is 20 and i got a shiny magby.

Willbey March 23rd, 2008 10:32 AM

Mine is 45 pupitar (no shiny) and that's lucky, but my friend is really good at it and he got 145 beldum + 2 shiny...

Vie March 24th, 2008 11:50 PM

beldum? how do you chain beldum in that stupid sandstorm? I hate it!

Z33 May 9th, 2008 4:46 PM

Try to chain as early in the day as possible, pick sparking patches and use magnet pull.

My 3 highest chains are 137 Magnemites, 131 Castforms, and 125 Lotads.

I just wanted to share some of my chaining experience with people in this forum. I've logged in over 1000 hours of chaining between 3 games. My main game (pokemon diamond) has 960 hours and my used (pokemon pearl) has 150 hours. I also chain on my girlfriends game from time to time. As of right now I'm close to catching 600 shiny pokemon, by means of the poke radar (pokeradar) and random encounters in the wild.

I have 138 shiny pokemon videos uploaded in youtube, of most of my shinnies and the chains I caught them in. Just search for shiny pokemon Z33.

I totally disagree with the posts about the odds of finding multiple shiny (7 or more) pokemon in a chain of over 100 is impossible. It is not impossible! I've caught 17 Eevees in the same chain. I started to reset at 40 and I caught one after the other until I reached 57. I didn't want to catch anymore because I caught enough for the Eevee's set of evo's. I was also catching for my girlfriend that's why I had to catch extra. From my experience you can actually catch a shiny pokemon in any chain. It just depends on how much you want to increase your odds of finding one. In the beginning I use to reset at 30, but when I decided to reset at 40, I ended up on using a lot less repels, proving that the odds of finding a shiny is a lot higher at chain 40. I got to go...to be continued.

ShadowTails May 9th, 2008 4:51 PM

My most disappointing chains are Shinx: Well over 50, no shinies in site, Phanpy (first time) over 60, no shinies. Buneary TWICE over 40 and no shinies... I've had many hard ships... AND THAT FREAKING FARFRETCH'D GOT AWAY FROM ME THANKS TO STUPID USELSS MOVES LIKE TELEPORT...

TwilightBlade May 9th, 2008 4:59 PM

Z33, do not bump threads last posted a month ago. Also, there is a sticky about Chaining now so make sure to check that out for discussion/questions. Thanks.
