It really isn't that hard to actually type out the things wrong with a sprite. I know personally, I'd rather be given specifics about what to improve than have someone just completely change my original sprite. If Esupio doesn't mind though, there's no point in discussing this.

I love the tank sprite, Opacus. The palette looks wonderful and the animation pwns. Thank god you fixed the angle of the wheels though. It looked awkward originally, but now it looks excellent. XD

actually, the angle of the hind wheel seems a little off. it looks awfully wide in comparison to both that band thing and the frontal wheel. the wheel itself doesn't need adjusting, just the contour of the wheel width. but i totally agree... that's an awesome sprite.

I just made this. First I combined about 4 different D/P sprites, did some customizing (color changes, slight shape changes), then found clouds made by Atari, used a friend's grass, and created a 3-D look; the grass loses color as it moves backward to create depth. Don't forget the shadows and one of my favorites Pokémon, Leafia o: I believe this is the correct location to post this.

I'd like to hear what some of you have to say.

Always and Never February 26th, 2007 9:37 PM

So? People still made the sprites, from scratch, spent time getting them right. Isn;t that the whole reason why people shouldn;t edit others work?

doesn't matter February 27th, 2007 4:24 AM

If I showcase a sprite here, I'd rather receive c+c than have someone come along and edit my work. Why? Cause I'd rather have someone point out what's wrong so that I can fix it, and so that I can improve. heh, lot of tags here aye? XD;;

I know other people may think otherwise, but having your work edited by someone else really doesn't benifit you. It's like asking the teacher how to answer a question, and then having it done for you instead of it being explained step by step. And in my opinion, it takes away all the effort you originally put into the piece.

... which is like blowing up a balloon, and then having someone deflate it and blow it back up again ... kinda.

heh, a lot of analogies too XD;;

That being said, Kevin has a point here:

Game sprites are done. Finished. To be edited no more. They are not put in the game so that we can fix them up and send them back. We only edit them for our entertainment. While I respect the original creators of the sprites, I agree that editing their work is completely different

And besides, in this case I feel that the edits made by Opacus were way to drastic. Ah well, I suppose it's alright as long as Esupio doesn't mind :<

Tyler-chan: Yeah, it looks pretty good. It'd be nice to see you add some more detail to it.

Anywho, the box with the door appears to be separate from the wall. You should move it up a little bit (2-4 pixels) so that the bottom of it connects with the bottom of the larger block. And there are some other minor imperfections, but other than that, good job, especially for a first try.

.:Kaku:.: Well it looks nice, I like the shading that you've done with the hair and face.

Jake: Cool, a road tileset. It looks good, though in my opinion the black dots that you've placed on the road stand out a bit too much. And they seem to uniform, as in the dots should be put in different positions on each of the tiles, just to make it seem more rugged.

~Shadow909~: Hmm, looks like you got the pen tool and drew a random shape. Anywho, you've overused your dithering, and while I can see your attempt to shade the outline, there is supposed to be black as well.

Heh, I guess I was in a commenting mood today~

All of it looks great, jarjar. Your work is very impressive. Were the isometric sprites done from scratch or are they heavy edited from existing MM sprites? The Budew walking set looks good. Not a very complicated set, but still well done.

The reason there are so few colours is because I tried to use as few colours as possible, since the DP sprites don't have that many colours. And the black outline; i think this looks so much better. Otherwhise it will go a little bit to 3d/real. But I'll try on my next one, thanks.

Confuzzling.
Well, it's good, I like the shading on the cloud, a nice use of dithering in my opinion, but it looks too much like a beard or wings it closely resembles Swablu.

I'm offering this up for opinions.

Kitsunote, a sound-based ghost fox pokemon that lives in things such as wooden flutes (which this one is holding). I forget at the moment what else I had going for this. I tried leaning more towards the D/P style for this one. Thoughts?

(I hate those arms. Those were such a pain to get to look right.)

hey me likey!! would be thinking how awesome it would be if wild ones can be found with the different kinds of flutes.

doesn't matter March 30th, 2007 10:52 PM

Yeah Cowrie, as I told you before, the design is excellent and very ingenuitive. I love how you've made it come out of the flute.

And as I also said before, you've pretty much got the DP style hands down. Your shading is excellently done.

Oh! And it's winking too!!

Yeah, possibly - I think I originally had it where they could inhabit different flute-like objects anyways. I dunno, I'd have to go back and re-think things, since I never wrote down anything certain for it.

I've gone ahead and merged your post with this discussion thread, because that's where it best belongs. :) Please remember that the only thing that should be posted in the main PA forum are threads showcasing sprites/pixel art, while any and all questions should be posted in this thread.

Ees Nice. You dink ees nice? (Translation: I like it quite a lot. What do you think of it?)

EDIT: I compared it to all the other FR/LG overworlds and noticed it was a little tall.

Sorry, but seeing as this is sprite work, 4 examples needs to be shown in order to keep a showcasing thread.

So unless you're planning to post more, I'll have to move this to the Spriters Showcase thread.

[MikeGTS] April 9th, 2007 2:21 PM

oops, sorry, i just didn't knew where to post, please, do move it! Thanks in advance

It's ok. :) No problem! I'll move this to the thread for you.

Hey, found the site up again this week, figured with nothing better to do id start spriting again.

Ive analysed the recent D/P sprites noticing a very rare use of a third highlight colour and more dark outlines of black or a dark grey. So, I sorta combined that into a new sprite. Im not quite sure if it fits the bill though.

First evo of a bug chain I hope to continue.

those are looking awesome, man!! nice work.

frazzler -- the shading and outlining is awesome, but i'm not liking the concept itself. it looks like a worm with a cloak.

Frazzler April 11th, 2007 9:34 AM

Yeah, I see what you mean.
Im after a carapace effect, so ill try and fix that.

Thanks for the feedback! =]

Uhh ... there's all these stray pixels. And you used over 1000 colours (1139 to be precise).

It seems to me more like that you shrunk an image down and left it at that :/

Looks pretty good. You just need to work on making your outlines seem smoother, such as on the large leaf and tail me thinks. Also, you should also try and use some black on the outline.

Niwa April 12th, 2007 4:20 PM

Shrunk an image, then claim work of my own? Out of the question lol.

-Photoshop Cs2 was used for that if thats any help.

Niwa: What exactly did you do to make the sprites?

Jake: hmm, it looks like you've got FRLG style tiles covered pretty well, though I'm curious as to why you decided to squash the trees up like that.

Anywho, something I just made a couple of hours ago, hope you like it :D

Well I was looking at the ripped version on tSR and the trees had soom fairly good room between each other, and I tried to get them like that, but they didn't turn out perfect, so I had to remake them like that.

The Azurill looks great but the tail seems a bit to long.

Looks really good. The tail looks a tad too long, and I'm not a big fan of how the body connects to the tail. Other than that, very well done. XD

Haha, looks great. I might darken the tip of the spear a tad, but it looks really good. That's my only real advice. XD

BTW, 300 was great, wasn't it? ;D

doesn't matter April 16th, 2007 8:52 PM

Thanks Jake and Kevin :>

Yeah, I've been told it looks long, and it does a tad, but like, I was looking at other pictures and I was trying to copy the amount of "bends" in it's tail. And since it usually is folded up, I guess that would explain why it looks long.

Maybe XD

I'm not sure if it was me hallucenating, but I think the spear has two points.
It looked that way in the movie.
And i agree, the point(s) should be darker.

Jake April 17th, 2007 3:20 PM

Well, I am going to try to make all of Sinnoh, in FR/LG style. I can't make much until I can see all of Sinnoh, but so far I have made allot of sprites.

Front and back poses are pretty decent. Side poses need a bit of work, they look quite squashed, and the head feathers look out of place.
