I have an interesting suggestion.
Hi. :3
As the title of this thread says, I have an interesting suggestion. I'll go on. While browsing the New Users / Welcome Section, I thought about a special contest. This contest would be called " Best newbie of the month ". <~ And... This is how it goes: When a new user joins, someone will enter his name on a list. And then, the person who's working on the contest will evaluate the newbie's posts, attitude etc. At the end of the month, there will be three winners. Okay... Not really winners, because they won't really win something ._. Anyway, those three members will have a position: #1, #2, or #3. (By the way, those three members would have prove to the community that they are real members; not noobs that post anything, everywhere. Also, every month, there will be three new members, on the list). Each of the three members will receive a good feedback on what they should change. Example: (Insert name here), you are a great member that respect the others. However, you should be careful, with your spelling. <~ That was an example of a good feedback. :3 So yeah, this was my suggestion. I strongly think this is a good idea, because it will reduce the spamming, all around the forum. How? The newbies, normally, doesn't like to be treated like noobs. So, this idea will push them (okay, not all of them) to be nice/not spam, all around the forum. |
This would be a definetly great idea. Spam on a forum is like pollution in a lake :K
Though my only problem would be; Say a newbie isn't voted for, yet they have good grammar/top quality posts w/e, wouldn't it be a distinct possibility the Angry!Newbie could flame? |
Sometimes the "best newbie" thing is posted in MotM though.
Its an interesting thought |
Maybe the n00bs who flame us for saying hyper beam is bad might have 2nd thoughts and actually consider being respectful. I doubt it would make a huge impact, but probably at least a noticable one. I quite like the idea.

This is a matter that might result best consulting it with the forum's moderator directly. You can contact Sorano and see whether she considers it good or not.
In any case, as Penguin has mentioned, sometimes a similar category is brought up(Best: New member). You can almost always vote for 3(+) people in each cateory too. |
Yeah, isn't Favorite Newbie part of the MotM?
Someone can just vote for their favorite new person there; there doesn't seem to be a need to go and evaluate their posts and stuff like that. Also, who's exactly going to keep track of every new member that joins? Some people don't even really join to be a part of the community, but to find hacks or they're just stupid and think a ROM is hidden here somewhere. And yeah, it seems like a really big hassle doing all of that stuff. If they don't read the FAQ or know how to act in a forum, that's them. I don't believe that anyone should teach them how to walk. If they're good, they'll be noticed in MotM. Just my opinion. |
I can only see trouble coming from it, to be honest :x

I'm not going to say that this is impossible. However, it will not really happen. And you know, if they start being angry, that's not our problem. =\ Quote:
Thank you, though. :3 Quote:

Seems Like a Fun idea but.
Who could possibly keep track of every new member that was too join in that period of time and keep track of them all....Unless you had a team of people wanting too do it. |

me to i want to help though.

I remember there was a similar topic like this in the past.
But no, I really do not agree with this idea. Usually something like this would do the opposite effect than you actually believe it would accomplish. Competition brews all sorts of things, and fighting would be one of them. Plus, what's really the point? 'Best newbie of the month'? We have a category like this in MOTM, there doesn't need to be another one. Like Koroku, I can only see trouble coming out of such an idea. Popularity contests usually induce trouble. |
