~~~POKéPC: The idea and the development~~~
*Project : POKéPC Engine.
*Developer : ExtraOrdinary Team "www.glowtrans.com"
*Developed using : Visual Basic.
*Purpose: Dedicated POKéMON RPG toolkit.
*Brief description :
~POKéPC is a POKéMON game system consists mainly of two main items: Engine and Toolkit.
~The Engine has the following features:
-> Full simulation of GBA POKéMON games RSE/FrLg.
-> Online trading and battling capability.
-> Small size (less than 1.5 MB), so you only need the Engine and your source data files only to run your custom game without any additional unused applications.
-> Multiple save files.
~POKéPC is rather like RPG Maker but purely programmed using Visual Basic and DirectX. It's got a simple easy-to-use GUI presented in many tools:
-> Map Editor
-> Monster Bank.
-> Tileset Customizer.
-> Battle Manager.
-> Item Manager.
Thanks AVATAR for the confirmation!
Waiting for you, guys. I hope you support me in reviving this project!
Thanks a lot!
Whoa, ExtraOrdinary, you're back! Like I came back.
Looks awesome like the last one. Keep 'em comin'!
Improfane November 3rd, 2007 10:40 AM
What's the codebase for the engine itself (like MirageSource) or built from ground up?
ExtraOrdinary November 3rd, 2007 10:56 AM
The engine is built up from ground and dedicated for POKéMON RPGs only.
Thanks POKéFlute and Improfane for your replies!
jonsploder November 3rd, 2007 2:09 PM
Awesome! I am downloading now!
dotFallen November 4th, 2007 4:45 AM
Hey glad to see you back. Still have your PMs from back then. : ) I was wondering if you still are going to make us pay for the engine?
ExtraOrdinary November 4th, 2007 5:34 AM
POKéPC is a non-profit project like any other fan game out there.
But, you can still support the project! (Got M3 now :p)!
Thanks, Power Hunter and jonsploder for your replies!
Wait for more soon :)
How could you build a game from scratch with no gamemaker?
ExtraOrdinary November 4th, 2007 6:48 AM
Well, it's something called "programming".
I think you should know more about it here.
Thanks for your reply, axibar!
I just played the demo...wasn't great. When you enter a different map number you end up at the same map.
Flameguru November 4th, 2007 7:31 AM
This is pretty awesome seeing a Pokemon Engine being made in Visual Basic. What version of Visual Basic are you using? I'm familiar with VB 6 but not .net series. If you need any help just ask ;)
And I'm sure you could do a lot better in VB?
Try looking at the readme, it explains that maps 0 and 2-5 are the same map:
*Map list: - 0 and From 2 to 5: LITTLEROOT TOWN.
- 1: ROUTE 101.
- 11: PALLET TOWN.
- 12: ROUTE 1.
- 50: LAKE OF RAGE.
- 100: LEGEND ISLANDS (Bonus map!).
This project is interesting because Visual Basic is not designed for game programming. By being built from the ground up means that the game engine and the designing tools were created manually. This means it doesn't use Game Maker or RPG Maker which do both for you!
I'm doing the same in Javascript (see link in signature), also not designed for game development. I know parts of Visual Basic but nothing to do with DirectX APIs.
NytewolfAU2k7 is a visual basic programmer, he may be able to help. He authored a Pokemon encyclopedia.
Have you considered opening the source for PokePC at a later date?
jonsploder November 4th, 2007 9:20 PM
Well, I don't think that its that good, but then again you DID do in basic. What I think would be a great think before you start to get to involved is make it an online game where you can send in your own maps. Your maps aren't that good at all and I think that if everyone can comtribute to the making, it will be MUCH faster than all the other projects.
Awesome kit... Iam downloading it^^
ExtraOrdinary November 5th, 2007 2:05 PM
To be honest jonsploder, I didn't make those maps myself. I asked some dudes to make them for me "Ashly138" if you remember him.
It'd be great if you design some maps for POKéPC, tilesets and custom tiles are needed. I think I'm bad in case of gathering resources and design stuff.
If you're interested, then PM me!
Thanks dudes :d
