I always picked Bulbsaur, because it rocks and it rules.

I pick squitle. I've always picked the water type! I don't know why!

SilencedShooter November 3rd, 2007 9:24 AM

Oh man, you gotta go with Bulbasaur.
A Venusaur with Razor Leaf, Sleep Powder, Toxic, and Sludge Bomb rules.

diyobs004 November 3rd, 2007 9:46 AM

i dont think sludge bomb exist in R/B/G/Y

Shadowz November 3rd, 2007 10:12 AM

Charizard is definitely a great final stage pokemon, it depends on the availability of what you're looking for later in the game too. An Arcanine is a good replacement for Charizard if you get a squirtle or bulbasaur.

Improfane November 3rd, 2007 10:21 AM

Bulbasaur - my first ever save.

He's the most fun starter. You get to have fun leech seeding and poisoning or paralyzing!

Scales November 3rd, 2007 12:51 PM

Charmander. Since he was always my first starter back when I first got pokemon. Now that I have mastered playing pokemon games now I still pick him for a challenge against brock and Misty

Scytheteen November 3rd, 2007 12:56 PM

Squirtle. He is like, the easiest to start with

starfox200 November 3rd, 2007 1:07 PM

Charmander because of Charzard

Joey the Cockroach November 3rd, 2007 1:45 PM

Definately Bulbasaur because it is good against ground and water types and ultra effective against rock types when it learns vine whip. i think it learns it at level 13.

bitter_doom November 3rd, 2007 3:06 PM

squritle cause i just like him... and blastoies... and ever since i got a shiny squritle from starters i choose him straight away

Actually Squirtle is the medium difficulty. What I like about pokemon games is they choose the difficulty in which starters you choose. Since Bulbasaur is a grass type it can defeat Brock and Misty very easily. Plus when you are facing Surge he can't get a super effective on you. So Bulbasaur is the easiest to start with

Squirtle however can defeat Brock but Misty is the exact same type. So there are no good bonuses there. Plus Surge can kill it in like 1 hit

Charmander is very hard to beat Brock and Misty with. So he is the hardest

If you have trouble beating the gym leaders you fail :/ Unless you go at them with incredibly low-level pokemon with terrible disadvantages, but that isn't so smart. You are correct, though. Just pick the one that will do best on your team for competitive battling...if you aren't doing that, just pick your favorite, which is either blastoise or chari, though I like 'em all.

Houndoom666 November 3rd, 2007 5:59 PM

If you want to pick Squirtle here is a good thing to do.

I remember when I pick squirtle,After I beat Brock and Misty I go to battle everyone on the S.S Anne and I go to train in Diglett cave. I do this and normally by then I have a Blastoise lvl 38 or 39 and I have a ground move or another move other than water and I pretty much have my game started the way I want it.

Grovyle42(Griff8416) November 3rd, 2007 6:11 PM

It's a really tough question for me. I like all of them. I'll say Charmander.

Tsugaru November 3rd, 2007 7:26 PM

I actually picked all of them, I was still new to Pokemon and was having a tough time with Brock and Misty with Charmander as my starter and then I just decided to play the game over with each new starter, In the end, it was Bulbasaur.

luke November 3rd, 2007 8:36 PM

Definitely Squirtle and Bulbasaur. <3 Though I'm a fan of Charmander. However, I feel most of the starters are slightly overrated. =/

they're very overrated IMO. Besides swampert and infernape, none of them have really been OU...maybe venusaur, but it was nothing you were afraid of at all.

Rainfall November 3rd, 2007 10:36 PM

Charmander, just because its a challenge to train. My favorite starter is Bulbasaur, but its just too easy for me, and I rarely like to do things the easy way.

LaurenLOVESTONED November 3rd, 2007 10:45 PM

Charmander for the win! he is the spunkiest little pokemon ev-uh

TNT November 4th, 2007 3:55 AM

squirtle. i dont like the other 2 much...

The great thing about the Pokemon games is that you don't have to take a competitive slant (people vs people) to the game if you don't want to. The more you take the easiest route through a game, for the sake of it being easy - every time you play it, you reduce the replayability of that game.

I find decisive wins are boring and unchallenging. I have trouble beating gym leaders. That doesn't make me 'fail'. You give me the impression that when you first got the game you never lost once. You knew all types by heart and knew which starter to pick...
