Can UU/BL beat OU?

I really hate using an OU team, which is what the face of sites like smogon is. Can someone give me proof that the little guys, with a bit of strategy can take down an OU team?

luke November 1st, 2007 6:45 PM

Yes, I've done it before. It's tough, but it's possible. =] Use who you want, just make sure they have AWESOME IVs and EV training. And awesome move sets and proper strategy. Just like any OU team.

Lumine November 1st, 2007 6:48 PM

It all depends on their strategies, anticipation and knowing their Pokes really well oh right and luck, Samson is someone of an excellent UU/BL user you might say..at least thats what I heard.

airconditioning November 1st, 2007 6:49 PM

BL Pokes certainly stand a chance against OU, but it takes some real skill. And even then, you may want an OU or two to back you up. I'm not sure about UU, though...

Anti November 1st, 2007 6:50 PM

Depends on the UUers and BL pokemon you use. some can survive the OU environment...others...not so much. Blastoise is quite fun to use in OU actually.

Iceman3k November 1st, 2007 6:52 PM

It's easy if you make a UU Team designed to Combat OU, but you won't get the best results.

(btw this just proves Pinsir to be demonically awesome ;))

PINSIR! I've swept OU teams with the dude, probably ione of the best UUers. I can't get enough of pinsir!

EDIT: Scwizard, that post mafe no sense. Here's why:

Two well-constructed teams with two players of equal skill level...when they play each other, 95% of the time the OU user wins.

Syaoran November 1st, 2007 6:53 PM

Of course it is, just takes more skill to build the team and even more skill to play it right. However, there are plenty of heavy hitters in OU that can easily ruin your fun, like Choice Specs Draco Meteor from Salamence for example.

the best part is that there are actually UU pokemon that can take the blow. Mqaybe not draco meteor or CBcross's sleep talked megahorn, but a straightforward EQ from garchomp 9though it's overrated anyways) is easily countered with the right poke.

I use Raichu, Noctowl, & Vileplume on my team. They have funtioned very well for my team. I also have a Torterra, Gyarados, & Miltank. Unique blend of OU & UU that funtions very well.

Iceman3k November 1st, 2007 7:06 PM

That Raichu (holding Focus Sash of course) threw me off then dropped :horns: in one blow ^^'

Best example ever. btw, :horns: is my Mamoswine. He's awesome.

Romance Hero November 1st, 2007 7:07 PM

I'm TRYING to use a cloyster and mawile xD got any suggestions?

P.S. Anti-pop can't help it, he just has to give out his mass info stored in his 9k mass brain ^^ Welcome back?

I agree with you on that. If that contradicted my post then that's why I deleted it.

The second half of my post said:
"When it's two people of equal skill probably not or else we wouldn't have the tiers in the first place." I think.

See? As Iceman said, [almost] any poke is usable, but you must know how.

Cloyster was actually pretty good in ADV, but in D/P...not so much.

No idea for Mawile but

Cloyster @ Leftovers
Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 DEF / 6 SPDEF
Ability: Shell Armor
-Ice Shard
-Explosion
-Spikes / Toxic Spikes
-Rapid Spin

luke November 1st, 2007 7:12 PM

I have a Rain Dance Team consisting of: Kingdra (BL), Ludicolo (BL/UU), Electivire (OU), Swampert (OU), Dusknoir (OU), and Floatzel (BL/UU). It works and I frustrate people with my Life Orb Ludicolo.

Stealth Rock = Dead Cloyster =[ Mawile is in sore need of an evolution.

Anti November 1st, 2007 7:12 PM

Actually, proprs to sims, Penguinpal and Xairmo for using their amazing peer pressure skills to bring me back. I'm still in a grumpy mood though :(

cloyster can also use special attacks...and it's one of the only spikespinners. forry is better at it though.

Cloyster, eh?

Cloyster @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Ice Beam
More coverage on this later.

Mawile... I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Romance Hero November 1st, 2007 7:22 PM

I may want to take some tutoring from Samson? I love making an interesting team, and I despise OU teams.

I love OU teams...mostly because I design them not to be good as a unit, but to crush the other OUs...lol, it's not too bad a strategie actually.

Romance Hero November 1st, 2007 7:48 PM

Ok, noob question. does CB work with skill link? if then, I can go with a cloyster in an ice team. And I still need a Strategy with mawile :/

Yes, CB works with Skill Link. Although I don't see why Skill Link is the right trait to have with Cloyster. Planning to use Icicle Spear or Spike Cannon? Not a bad idea with Cloyster's base Atk at 95, but isn't he used more for the Spike-spinning or even potential Physical Walling? And besides Icicle Spear and Spike Cannon, wouldn't it's other purposes be to Spikes-spin anyway?

Let's give it a try...

Cloyster @ Choice Band
Trait: Skill Link
Brave (?) Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Toxic Spikes / Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Shard / Explosion

I'm at a loss for the CB Cloyster. Such few moves to complement its Atk. Icicle Spear + CB + STAB * Skill Link bonus would hurt, but it's totally hax. A completely unthought-of moveset for Cloyster from me. Yay.

EDIT: While on the topic of UU's, may I make a suggestion? Dunsparce makes awesome flinchhax in the UU tier with Serene Grace.

Dunsparce @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
Adamant Nature
- Body Slam (for STAB and paralysis)
- Headbutt (more STAB and flinching)
- Rock Slide (flinching again.)
- Bite (I forgot... Oh yeah, flinch.)

Just thinking out loud. =)

I think many BLs have a better chance then some OUs, as the OUs also have OU counters (if that makes any sense)

So imagine their shock when they expect their pokemon to counter yours easily, and you pull something out that sweeps their team /overexagerration

BLs have the potential to do great, just there are OUs that do their job better, but countering them is less frequent as well
