PINSIR Discussion, let's Discuss Pinsir

considering that he's one of the original pokes that still hasn't found an evolution... I tend to overlook Pinsir... and in competitive play, I've yet to come across one, I mean, there's Scyther's, Scizors and Heracrosses that are a very intimidating force...

that aside, I've been hearing here and there that Pinsir can be a pretty vicious, underlooked pokemon...

mind explaining movesets and strategies that work well with a Pinsir? some feedback would be great.

the only one that I've seen so far that seems like it can work was this one:

Pinsir @ Shell Bell/Choice Band/Choice Scarf
Jolly | Mold Breaker
252 Atk, 252 Spd, 6 HP
~Swords Dance/Bulk Up/Brick Break
~X-scissor
~Earthquake
~Rock Slide

enlighten me!

Adamant wants Choice Scarf and Jolly Wants Choice Band, also i think it has the same base attack and speed as Heracross.

Stone Edge >> Rock Slide

Close Combat also works in that First slot.

You also may want to consider Pursuit.

I actually find Earthquake good on this as you can predict Gengar switch ins (who will try and block close combat) and hammer them hard with it(due to mould breaker) even though the general rule is that ground moves and Fighting dont work well together in terms of coverage i still think it benefits Pinsir somewhat.

Shadow Claw, Focus Punch, Aerial Ace, Double Edge are other moves worth considering.

i used it for a physical tank to set up stealth rock. i just love that it resists fighting type moves and takes EQ easy.

not the smartest way to use him, true, but he comes in handy.

Pinsir as an SR.... hmmm... mind telling me how you did it... Nature, EV spread and whatnot... I'm curious.

Samson November 2nd, 2007 3:01 PM

just a regular impish 252 HP/252 DEF.

he currently has X-Scissor/Brick Break/Bulk Up/Stealth Rock. i want to make some modifications to him tho. just not sure what. for what he's worth, he works well with the team he is currently in. the team has a major ground/fighting weak, and they all absorb his weaknesses extraordinarily well in return.

not too shabby.... especially that Bulk Up on him.... that moveset is a lot more different than the types I was expecting from a Pinsir.

SR is nice, but maybe a scarfSIR. (with Rocksilde over stoneedge. flinch factor works well with CScarf.
If you can BP some speed to a bulkup moveset, that might also work. (works well with ninjask)

I used to always compare Pinsir to Heracross. Heracross and Pinsir are both bugs, have horns, and weigh near the same amount. Me, id just think of them as the same pokemon and give em the same moves.

Bad mistake. Heracross's base power is 125, & he has the ultimate movepool, & great ability. MUCH stronger than Pinsir. Be careful when using Pinsir.

Adamant @ Salac Berry
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Swords Dance
X Scissor

Not as much more powerful than you'd think. Pinsir has the same base attack and speed. HEre are the thing that hurts it:

-No STAB of fighting moves
-No megahorn
-No guts

Otherwsie, they're almost exactly the same. But hera is better...sob...

I have an Admant EV Trained Pinsir. I got it via Game Corner in LG

In 3rd Gen, It used HP Bug 60(What luck, a Game Corner Pinsir that id Adamant AND a STAB move). In 4th, X-Scissor

I Prefer slapping Choice Band/Scarf on it Myself:

[email protected] Band/Scarf
Adamant
X-Scissor
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Brick Break/Close Combat

THis set is fun to use ingame:

Pinsir
Adamant
Superpower
Bulk Up
X-Scissor
Earthquake

Not meant for competitive purposes. Basically, Bulk Up, Superpower. Bulk Up, Superpower. It's fun to use, but just not practical enough to work vs. other people :/

choice scarf is much better when you consider his ability Mold Breaker. he can basically just come into any ghost or psychic type w/ levitate and take them out.
