There's also resttalk. He asked for a pure special wall, so I went with that. But yeah, I'd actually say it serves better as a dual wall. Hypnosis is "meh" for me because of the acc.

Azonic November 4th, 2007 4:12 AM

Some use Wide Lens on Milotic to boost Hypnosis, Hydropump, and (sometimes)Blizzard.

But I wouldn't count on that

Dark Azelf November 4th, 2007 4:26 AM

Milotic is a dual wall not fully special. Ill grant you it can take a STAB'd Thunderbolt and live however dont depend fully on it as a special wall.

Tank

[email protected]
Bold Nature
EVS : 240 DEF / 148 HP / 120 SP.ATT
- Ice Beam
- Surf / Hydro Pump
- Recover
- Hypnosis / Toxic / Mirror Coat / (Light Screen, in your case)

Good defenses and instant recovery make Milotic a great sleep inducer, especially with 10% boost to the accuracy of Hypnosis compared to the previous generation. Surf for reliable STAB and Ice Beam to cover Dragons and Grass types. 148 HP / 240 Def / 120 SpAtk ensures survival from a Swords Danced Earthquake from Jolly Garchomp (provided it does not have a Life Orb), with enough Special Attack to OHKO. 148 EVs reaches 368 which is optimal for Leftovers recovery.

OR

Rest-Talk

[email protected]
Bold Nature
evs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpAtk
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Ice Beam / Toxic
- Surf / Hydro pump

Sleep Talk Milotic is a very sturdy tank. With Rest activating Marvel Scale her Defense gets boosted to allow her to take most physical hits with relative ease. If you've got good counters for Garchomp, Salamence and friends elsewhere on your team, Toxic is worth considering to wear down the likes of Dusknoir and non-Resting Suicune etc.

A note about Flame Orb: While it may be tempting to give Milotic a Flame Orb to activate Marvel Scale, it's really not a good idea. You're not only losing Leftovers recovery, but you're sapping her HP each turn. With potential Sandstorms to worry about and switch-in damage from Spikes and Stealth Rock, Milotic will have trouble staying alive, even with Recover.

Shadow147 November 4th, 2007 6:42 AM

So is the Rest talk set for Dual Walling purposes then?

Yes it is for Dual walling.

If you make it a pure special wall and invest all evs into sp.def it leaves it with piss poor Def and if its your last pokemon and say your up against a Heracross, now with EVS in Def it can take a Close Combat, with no evs in Def and not a + Def nature it cant and it dies. This is why we give it Bold nature and evs in Defense to balance out its defensive stats.

Eos Aduro November 4th, 2007 10:59 AM

Heylo everybody, why are some people so aburpt in their posts? Im serious, in the Battle Stadiums, everyones like BATTLE! And thats it, Im like no pleasany chatter????

Milotic-Leftovers
Ice Beam
Surf
Rest/Hypnosis
Sleep Talk/Recover

Sheer special wall is pretty dang good, it has survived my Tangrowths Power Whip, a feat to be proud of indeed

It's really a preference with Recover and Aqua Ring. Recover takes up a moveslot, whereas Aqua Ring is constant for a while after setting up and heals well with Leftovers. I chose Aqua Ring, but there really isn't much difference.

Spice Curry November 4th, 2007 12:27 PM

Recover is better, IMO, because you heal up all the damage at the exact turn you use the attack. I never like Aqua Ring, to be honest, because most people resort to recovery moves when their HP is low. If you use Aqua Ring, you only get your HP slightly healed up every turn. (Which is essentially what Lefties does).

That is completely correct.

Aqua Ring = 100% Fail

Why would you want Minimum HP Recovery with Aqua Ring GRADUALLY, when you can get half your hp back with Recover INSTANTLY.

EDIT: WTH people it cannot function fully as a damn special wall its a dual wall, you put EVs in its Sp.Def and if has piss poor Def and therefore fails, goodness people read my previous post since i hate repeating myself but i will. Read the WHOLE thread before posting.

Leftovers already provides a gradual heal on HP. Along with what Dark_Azelf stated. Recover will get more HP faster while Aqua Ring - you have to wait numerous turns and get a near half recovery.

I run Hypnosis over Mirror Coat since most attacks to Milotic are going to be physical.

Samson November 4th, 2007 3:11 PM

i'm surprised light screen isn't popular on milotic! i was running mirror coat all this time, and it never came in handy, and recently got one with light screen, and it's awesome. it becomes supportive as well as defensive.

Azonic November 4th, 2007 3:14 PM

Yes, but as stated before. Most trainers will want to pick on Milotic's low Defense. Reflect might be better. (o_o it can learn it... rite?)

Or you can use rest to activate marvel scale :/ Might as well take advantage of its ability.

It's best as a dual wall, anyways. The special wall is loled at by gengar and zam (Tbolt and energy ball), especially if they hit you on the switch.

Azonic November 4th, 2007 3:23 PM

Restalk = 66% of Attacking

Its a ripoff when you can use Recover and take 2 turns for a full recovery instead of 3. And you gain the Hypnosis.

Milotic counters the status conditions, it doesn't give them to itself

Despite the risk of resttalk, it's a fine way to absorb BOTH kinds of attacks like cnady, rather than just special attacks.

ThePlaya November 4th, 2007 11:20 PM

[email protected]
Ability:Marvel Scale
Nature:Bold
EVs:252 HP, 120 Defense, 120 Sp.Defense, 18 Sp.Attck
-Surf
-Recover
-Hypnosis/Aqua Ring
-Ice Beam

but in your case

[email protected]
Ability:Marvel Scale
Nautre:Bold(at least give it some defensive boost right??)
EVs:252 HP, 252 Sp.Defense, 6 Sp.Attck
or
Evs:252 HP, 200 Sp.Defense, 58 Sp.Attck
-Surf
-Recover
-Hypnosis/Aqua Ring
-Ice Beam

Well, I holped i helped.:)

Shadow147 November 5th, 2007 10:30 AM

Without any boost of defence, it's WAY to easy for physical sweepers to say hi.

Aqua ring fails, since lefties accomplishes healing, as does rest/recover.

the restalk set is best for overall defenses.
