1 - Items like Miricle Seed, Mystic Water, etc. should never be used. It offers only a 10% boost to the Grass move.
2 - There should be only one of a certain element type on a moveset. So you should never have two grass moves on one pokemon.
3 - False Swipe is epic failure at only 40 power.
4 - Sceptile is already fast enough to outrun most pokemon, it doesn't need Quick Attack.

Is this 3rd Gen or 4th Gen?

Anti November 12th, 2007 12:32 PM

Try This instead:

Sceptile @ Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leaf Blade

I believe was the 3rd gen standard.

El Gofre November 12th, 2007 1:27 PM

Solar beam needs sunny day IMO, which makes it unreliable unless your willing to give up a move slot. Go with anti's set

If a Grass type doesn't have Chlorophyll/Leaf guard/Sun Power, Sunny day is a big NO. Even then, Grass types with said abilities can do without SD in most cases u.u

If this is 3rd Gen, I usually go with this novelty set

[email protected] dunno
Modest/Timid
Leaf Blade
Crunch
Dragon Claw
Thunderpunch

4th Gen, another variation of said novelty set.

[email protected] Specs
Modest/Timid
Energy Ball
Dragon Pulse
Focus Blast
Hidden Power (Ice)

Because it's In-game, I usually make my Starter an all-out attacker. But that's only because of the following:
a) I usually stick with my starter
b) I don't want legnthy brawls with in-game trainers
c) Said in-game trainers have horrible AI

flamehaze94 November 12th, 2007 3:44 PM

[email protected] Specs
Trait: Overgrow
Timid nature(+Spd -Atk)
EVs: 252Sp.Atk / 252Spd / 4HP

Leaf Storm
Dragon Pulse
HP [Fire]/ Energy Ball
Focus Blast

Leaf Storm is an absolute must on a Specs sets. Dragon Pulse is obvious.HP [Fire] for coverage or Energy Ball for an early game sweep. Focus Blast for a good fighting move.

What's a 'Spectile'? (kidding =P)

He's like the fastest Sub-Seeder out there, so yeah.
And is this an in-game set or a Competitive Battling one? Either way, that Solar Beam has got to go. Two turns to power up = fail.

ThePlaya November 12th, 2007 5:43 PM

yeah especially with its poor defense....it just won't last

not unless he puts something like sunny day

Nacon November 12th, 2007 5:54 PM

subbing sceptiles are pretty hard to take down, IMO... if you get the sub up, that's basically giving it an extra turn of getting hit since it is an easy pokemon to 1hko.

these movesets aren't too shabby.... I don't really come across sceptiles anymore...

THe reason being that Sunny day DOUBLES the power of Fire-Type moves, one of the most commonly used of Grass' Weaknesses(Second only to Ice)

Arcknight316 November 12th, 2007 6:26 PM

I'm not an expert on Sceptile, but on first sight, i think am positive that it sucks.

Azonic November 12th, 2007 6:38 PM

Sceptile is very hard to take down when SubSeeding. It doesn't need any defenses when it has Substitute to protect it. Along with Leech Seed, Leftovers gives a healthy restore in HP.

Subseeding makes it VERY durable actually.

and I am positive you have never fought a scpetile and you're wrong. Sceptile is arguably the best subseeder in the game, and screws over many walls *coughblisseycough* and is extremely annoying and difficult to take down. In fact, the subseeding scpetile swept through my first worthwhuile Netbattle team, including my special wall, snorlax, which leech seed destroyed.

ThePlaya November 12th, 2007 10:53 PM

is this sceptile for ingame purposes????

FullmetalxFangirl November 12th, 2007 11:15 PM

[email protected] Specs
Trait: Overgrow
Timid nature(+Spd -Atk)
EVs: 252Sp.Atk / 252Spd / 4HP

Leaf Storm
Dragon Pulse
Hidden power [Rock]/ Energy Ball
Focus Blast

---

I say HP Rock because it covers ice, fire and flying, and not ground because the most common poison types usually have levitate. I'm not sure if it's [HP Rock] physical or not, however, so I might be wrong... >:

---

Sceptile has one of the higher SpA stats in the game, not to mention the 15th highest Spd stat. If its HP did get down into the red, its Overgrow ability combined with leaf storm could be rather painful... Because of its high Spd and SpA, it has the ability to be a special sweeper or an annoyer.

It's really a great critter. Looks rad, too. =]

Kind of a lousy moveset statisticly....
for a proper seed subber..i would go....

Sceptile @ Leftovers
Timid
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-HP- (only go fire, psychic, water above 50)
-Energy Ball

But I would scratch that All together.
Sceptile @ Focus sash
Adament (252 atk and speed...6 hp)
-Swords Dance
-Leaf Blade (90 base power...high crit...who can complain?)
-Earth Quake (get Pesky fires out of the way)
-*Thunder Punch (only if you can get it on emerald)
-*Stone Edge (I'm pretty sure Scepto can learn it)

Hope this helps.

I would change leaf blade simply because Sceptile's attack is lacklustre in comparison with its SpA.

You can't sadly

Whatever

Your obviously new to this XD.

kohei November 14th, 2007 4:06 AM

Since I see that it's your first time breeding a competitive Pokemon, don't be too harsh on yourself when breeding for IV's. Two 31 IV's in crucial stats are better than 25+ in all stats.

However, I see you need to go for HP Ice. Good luck.
