Umbreon

Hi I trained my Umbreon from level 1 - 100 without any power boosts or rare candies, this is on Pearl

Are these moves any good for him?

Moonlight
Bite
Faint Attack
Pursuit

If not could you please advise me on what to use. Thank you

Angelic Diablo November 15th, 2007 1:53 AM

Umbreon isn't meant to attack, rather he is meant to cause disruption and absorb hits

[email protected]
Bold/Calm/Impish/Careful Nature
EVs: 252 HP, 128 Def, 124 Sp Def
-Mean Look
-Baton Pass
-Wish
-Dark Pulse/Taunt/Protect

Mean Look passing, basically trap something, and Baton Pass to an appropriate counter

Uhh, guys, Angelic Diablo already mentioned it. Umbreon is not supposed to be an attacker, and thus should not be focused on the offensive. (Quirky and Timid are bad natures for Umbreon. Faint Attack, Shadow Ball, and Bite aren't good attacks on Umbreon either. Iron Tail is just a really bad attack on any Pokemon.)

It's a supportive Pokemon; meant to wall and annoy your enemy while possibly healing your own team as well using Wish.

The favorite use for Umbreon is Baton Passing. You can Baton Pass Curse, Wish, Substitute (better left for Vaporeon, though), Mean Look, Wish, and a lot more moves.

you mentioned wish twice...lol

but he is right though, all of your movesets are below even in-game standard, and that is pretty bad...lol

Baton Pass
Toxic
Substitute/Confuse Ray/Mean Look/Curse/Wish

yh every 1s favorite use for umbreon is support but my umbreon is not lvl 100 so i gave it moves to lvl it fast, im playing 3rd gen emerald and i can solo the elite 4 and champ with my umbreon so my movelist works fine.....

252 Def, 252 Spc. Def, & 6 HP

Toxic
Protect
Substitue
Moonlight

I'm glad I took look at some of these other serious Umbreon users, it kind of helps me on what I should do with him. I'm going to reraise another Umbreon with the following:

[email protected]

252 HP, 126 Def, & 126 S.Def

I especially liked where some of you rose his EV's on Hp, I actually think that's very smart, and then halving them for his defenses. I like those ideas

I'm more of a sweeper type battler, and I am also big into faster pokemon.

Syaoran November 15th, 2007 7:39 AM

I would never use Moonlight in competitive play, weather teams are everywhere and besides, he gets Wish, which is a lot better for overall team support. Also, I believe Toxic is quite needed on Umbreon, because most of the time people expect you to use Mean Look so they usually switch to something with Roar or Taunt. If you choose to put Taunt on Umbreon, it will stop them from roaring you away, but Gyarados is so common in OU play, and with his higher base speed he will Taunt you before you Taunt him, so at least you can Toxic him on the switch. You could try an Umbreon with a lot of speed EV investment to potentially outspeed Gyarados, but then his walling abilities will not be as good.
As for Curse Umbreon, I'm a huge critical hits paranoid, so I wouldn't bother with it. This is the set I suggest:

Toxic
Mean Look
Baton Pass
Wish

It could work great with Toxic Spikes teams who can't poison the flying types and levitators.

Samson November 15th, 2007 7:45 AM

i think using taunt on the switch is way more reliable than using toxic on the switch. most things that switch in on umbreon will resist toxic anyway, or have natural cure, or have guts.

umbreon is tough to use well-rounded. in reality, taunt + wish is all you need for it to do its job.

kenji174 November 16th, 2007 4:35 AM

well i now have two umbreons and my new lvl 74 caned:
rayquaza lvl70
Groudon lvl74
Entei+
Raikou lvl44
my moves are moonlight, secret power, faint attack, and bite.
