3rd gen Battle Tower + Smeargle?
Preface:
On a whim, I decided that it might be fun to make a Pokemon that could obtain every Ribbon in the game. (This is impossible, as there is the Classic Ribbon, as well as certain ribbons given out at tournaments, so I'm settling for as many as humanly possible). Smeargle was the obvious candidate, as his ability to learn any move in the game would make him easily win the contests. In addition, he's one of my favorite Pokemon (I'm a sort of artist myself, so he really endears to me). So, I imported a Neutral Natured Smeargle (so he would be able to max out each of his contest stats) from Colosseum (giving him the National Ribbon, and later, the Earth Ribbon). However, I noticed that one of the ribbons (two, actually) require beating the Battle Tower (or at least getting a 50-streak). So, I taught my Smeargle some fighting moves, put together a team, and stormed the Battle Tower. This did not work as well as I had hoped. I need help with my team- I just can't get it to work right. tl;dr I need to beat the Battle Tower with a Smeargle. On to the team! [email protected] Salac Berry Quirky 100 Spd (all I kept track of) -Spore -Endure -Lock On -Sheer Cold It was either this or the Endure/ Endeavor build. Man did that suck. So I'm using this instead, and it's working a bit better. [email protected] Choice Band Bad Nature LOL EVs -EQ -Brick Break -Aerial Ace -Flamethrower Evolved from a random Bagon I caught. Latios previously occupied this spot, until I got walled by Shedinja. [email protected] Lefties Gentle (lol) A few in HP here and there. -Surf -Ice Beam -Calm Mind -Rest CMCune, imported from Colosseum. It didn't occur to me to SR for Natures. That's my team. Smeargle must be on it, the rest are open for suggestion. Can you help me out here? Can anyone help with this? I know the Emerald Battle Tower is supposed to be retardedly easy, but I really need a second opinion on this. I've only been able to get to 28 wins... :( |
uh suicune is good but i fail to see the point of smeargle......
y not use a charizard instead of the salamence, or maybe a tyranitar those r both good |
I don't really see how Smeargle really helps this Team, but if you must..
Smeargle (M) @ Salac Berry Trait: Own Tempo EV's: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Spore - Belly Drum - Substitute - Baton Pass. Roar >>> IB on Cmcune. He need's Roar. EQ and Flamethrower is fine on CBmence, just replace the other two Moves with Rock Slide and HP Flying. (Thanks Angelic). :P |

Aww, Itachi beat me to the Smeargle set... But anywho.
Ghost and Fighting are like the physical Boltbeam of 3rd gen. They hit a lot of types for neutral damage, so I'm kind of thinking a good candidate for Belly Passing is Gengar, with Shadow Ball and Brick Break, along with Thunderbolt and Giga Drain (or something) just in case you need to hit special. |
Smeargle might not be helping the team much, true, but he's the only reason I'm bothering with the Battle Tower. A Ribbon is given out to Pokemon that beat half of the Battle Tower, and I need Smeargle to get it. *points at first post* What I really need is a team built around Smeargle.
About certain Pokemon... Charizard: I have no way of getting a Charmander on Emerald, so that's out. Tyranitar: Level 50 Battles require that the Pokemon be Level 50 or below. Pupitar evolves into Tyranitar at Level 55, so I can't use him. Salamence: Do I have to use HP Flying? There's only a difference of 10 base damage between it and Aerial Ace, and breeding for Hidden Powers is a huge pain. As for Rock Slide, that seems alright. I've tried the Battle Tower so many times I have a large stock of BP, so I think I'll put that on him. Smeargle: The Belly Pass set seems a bit impractical, since I only have Salamence to pass to. And if he has to switch out due to CB, the Belly Drum is completely lost. Unless I redo the team, I can't see the effect of that. Any other ideas? |

Belly Drum + CB = Overkill...
You can always just Lefties your Mence. And no, you don't really have to use HP Flying. Aerial Ace works nicely. (Heck, Fly if it's in-game....) You can have Dragon Claw for Special STAB, should you have any need for it. Going all-out physical doesn't seem to be too good of an idea. However, I have been able to win quite some battles with just a level 87 Breloom using Sporepunch. I assume none of the Battle Tower / Frontier Pokemon are EV trained. |
It looks fine. Guys, it's the battle frontier. HP Flying? No...AA does fine :/ If you want power, use fly. You heard me. Nobody switches, I don't see why not :/
Might want more speed in smeargle thoguh, the BF pokemon are EV trained. Poorly, but EVs are EVs. |

And Anti-Pop, Smeargle's already level 50, meaning I can't really EV train him any more (he was already level 45 when I got him). The EVs he has now were from cloned Carboses. As for Fly, I'll consider it, but it's only a 10 BP difference between it and Aerial Ace. |
No, I'd keep Aerial ace, I was just saying IF you wanted extra power. I played Greta in the Battle arena when I was a n00b and beat her because I flew up high the turn her heracross used endure...lol
In emerald, open level starts at level 60 BTW...the levels of the foes are that of your highest leveled pokemon, so make sure they're all at the same level. I normally trained mine to level 75 or so. But that is up to you. |
