Sketching certain moves

Where do you go to have a Smeargle sketch moves like Energy Ball, Ice Punch, or Drain Punch? Are there any moves that Smeargle can't Sketch because of a lack of availability?

This should go in Strategies & Movesets.

I'd take the easy way out, and have your friend (or you on another game) teach a pokemon a move you want to sketch, go into battle, and sketch the move.

I believe the only moves Smeargle can't Sketch is Selfdestruct and Explosion because the user faints.

The only moves Smeargle can never sketch is

-Roar
-Whirlwind
-Sacred Fire
-Aeroblast
-Dark Void
-Judgement

Well atleast these are the ones I know of.

I don't think any of those moves can be found in the wild legitly. As for trainers, not sure but you could do some research. Smeargle can probably sketch any move except for stuff like Explosion or Roar I would assume. I only played with Smeargle a few times before.

But yeah, easy way would be to get a friend to help you sketch in a wifi battle.

Edit: Sacred Fire/Aeroblast can be sketched if your at Navel Rock/battle and same for Judgement but that's hacking. Dark Void wouldn't probably work.

Actually it can. Double battles ;) But no explosion or self-destruct :(

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Smeargle can learn any move in the game. I remember hearing that if the Poke using the move is asleep, and Smeargle uses Sketch on that Poke, Smeargle will learn whatever move was supposed to be used. It's the easiest way to get moves like Explosion and Substitute. I'm not 100% sure (I've never tried it), but I think it works.

Also, moves can't be Sketched over Wifi battles. They can, but they'll be reset after the battle ends. The only way to get rare moves is by this:

LAWL SMEARGLE SKETCH GUIDE.

To start, let's say we'll want to give Smeargle Roar of Time (lol). Take a Dialga (that knows Roar of Time, of course) and a Smeargle, and put them into the first two spots in your party.

Now, go find a good place to do a Double Battle (I recommend going to the restaurant near Valor Lakefront), and start a Double Battle. Your two starting Pokemon should be Dialga and Smeargle.

Have Dialga use Roar of Time on one of your enemies, and then have Smeargle use Sketch on Dialga. Hopefully, Dialga will use Roar of Time, and Smeargle will Sketch immediately afterward. Finish the battle, and enjoy your new Roar of Time.

Basically:
1. Double Battle.
2. Copy Ally's move.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Sketching is easiest in the Double Battle just south of Floaroma.

Iceman3k November 23rd, 2007 9:25 AM

There's also a Double Battle Spot in Route 209, south of Solaceon Town.

And that whole Double Battle thing works great. I didn't read about it, I learned it on my own when I bred the perfect Teddiursa that one time.
