Which starter should i start with?

In FR & LG should i start with Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur?
In R/S/E should i start with Torchic, Mudkip, or Treecko?

Swampert and Venusaur are probably your best bets competetively...I guess. Definately swampy though, it is a great tank.

you have 2 reasons to choose:

how strong they are and how hard to play with them so:
Charmander and Torchik are the hardest to play with them at start cause they're weak against the first gyms. but they will be strong at the rest of the gyms.
they also have high str and high speed.

Squirtle and Mudkip are very strong against the 1st gyms, and untill u get to gym that they are weak you'll have good pokemon with you.
they have high defence and sp.defence. mudkip is also ground pokemon so it's electric weakness dissapears, and if u teach it blizzard/ice beam u can take out his 2ed weakness [grass].

and you got the grass type. Treeko and Bulbasour. they are balanced pokemon.
they will be good at the first gyms. and they are a bit harder to play them water and fire pokemon.

but in the end take the pokemon that u think is the best for you :)
i myself always 1st choosen the fire types [say that they don't look the coolest!!!!], after that the water type and at the end the grass type cause in the end they are the weakest [my opinion]

For ingame, what you said is correct. On a competitive basis, you have to evaluate things more individually. For example, blaziken is great ingame but epically fails in competitive battling IMO. So yeah.

FR/LG: Charmander
R/S/E:Torchic
Both of the firetypes in both games kick but!. They also learn very good moves.

charmander and torchic do rule

noah73x December 1st, 2007 9:06 AM

Yeah, Fire pokemons have a lot of good moves such as flamethrower, over heat, heat wave, fire blast [i realy have this move >< it's weak]... and charizard with Blast Burn will born out every rival in a sec...
while water pokemon are kinda annoying with TM/HM, only Blizzard is a good one cause i don't like surf [perfere not using HM's on my best pokemon], and they get Hydro Pump at high lvl.

oh, good luck on your 1st journy . :P

Sora_8920 December 1st, 2007 9:12 AM

In Hoeen, I >3 Swampert. Plus, It's great in Competitive Play. Sceptile is 2nd. But really, It's just a matter of what you prefer.

Aelitaluver3.0 stay on topic, please.

noah73x December 1st, 2007 10:47 AM

lol sure i would like to be your friend :embarrass
and yes, you avatar is cute :D

and just to stay on topic... i would say that water pokemon like mudkip and squirtle will be realy stong against the Dragon Elite at the league, cause they can learn Ice Beam/Blizzard.

Lyra. December 1st, 2007 9:49 PM

yea ur right about the elite four members. and for squirtle and mudkips.

MissMegano December 1st, 2007 10:23 PM

Well of course, I'd go with Bulbasaur. Just choose the one that you think looks the coolest. They're all strong. :p

Lyra. December 1st, 2007 10:57 PM

yea ur right. i still haven't decided yet... and i no y u would choose bulbasaur! (it's in ur sig!)

Deathtolight December 3rd, 2007 1:49 PM

me personally, i would go with squirtle and Mudkip. theyre awesome pokemon

Kitori_theTeamAquaSuicune December 3rd, 2007 2:16 PM

I'd probably go for Charmander for FR/LG, although it will be difficult to get past the second gym, it'll be so much better when you get further into the game from a regular fire type to a Fire/Flying type.

as for Emerald... I gotta think on that...

PokeMaster3 December 3rd, 2007 2:58 PM

I'd go with Treecko in R/S/E

Well, if you could state some reasons why, we'd appreciate it. Just for Future refrence. But otherwise, yes, It's a really great Pokemon, and has potential in Competitive Play. But I'm assuming this if for In-Game.

Lyra. December 3rd, 2007 6:55 PM

yea i guess all of u r right! i'm still confused! (about which pokemon to choose!)

there is no best choice due to the fact that they all have their own strengths and weaknesses

Necrono December 9th, 2007 1:52 AM

Fire Red/Leaf Green
I don't want to sound vain but I don't think they're strong enough. I've always had a thing for Charmander but in my last games, I chose Bulbasaur simply because he was a good slave and because I can get Entei who is better than most fire Pokemon. Going for Squirtle will get you Raikou but why will you need him when you've got Zapdos(electric attacks don't hurt him much), if you take Charmander you'll get Suicune but then again, there's Lapras and Gyarados! Though Suicune is better, having an Entei in your team is great!

But that's your choice anyway!

I'd recommend Aerodactyl against the Elite 4, he's great!
