Swampert is the best though, in-game OR competitive, hands down. |
Swampert/Marshtomp/Mudkip is the best starter against Roxanne. But on my friends' Sapphire (I think) he had a Torchic & i defeated Roxanne's Gym Trainer with only an Ember!
|
with charmander and torchic i always start with fire types pokemon (except in crystal)
|
I always used fire except in the ds games chimchar isnt cool imo
|
lookswise and strategywise; mudkip. It rocks, especially ingame where they dont EV.
|
well, is Sapphire I chose Torchic... *sigh* I remember those days...
anyways, Torchic, belive it or not, was acctually pretty easy (even though it was the first ever Pokemon game I played) in FR/LG, I first chose Charmander... it was a bit difficult at the start, but after a while it was quite simple... now that I think about it, Squirtile seems to be the bst choice, though I've nevr played with Bulbasaur... my apoligies for my spelling................ my keyboard is screwed up.......... |
This is just in game, soooooooo......Sceptile for RSE and Venusaur for FRLG. Just my opinion, besides it's in game, so you could put the starter in the PC and beat the game with a Ratatta.
|
just asking but... a Ratatta? oooooooookkkkkkkkk.. anyways it's down to:
R/S/E: Mudkip & Torchic FR/LG: Charmander & Squirtle |
What type of game do you want to play?
If you want hard I suggest Charmander/Torchic as they aren't as good as the other two at the first two gyms, so until the third gym, it is more challenging If you want medium play I suggest Squritle/Mudkip, they can beat the first gym with ease, but not the second If you want easy play I suggest Bulbasaur/Treeko, they can kill the first two gyms. My opinion is Charmander and Mudkip, because Charmander = Charizard = Badass and Mudkip = Swampert, and swampert can't be affected by electricity, which is one of it's weaknesses. |
In FR & LG start with a squirtle, that way its a doddle through the first gym so you can catch other pokemon quicker in mt moon
In R/S/E start with a treeko theyre so cool and they are good in most gym battles |

ok it's now down to: R/S/E: Torchic, Mudkip, & Treecko FR/LG: Charmander & Squirtle |
What? You don't think the game could be beaten with a Rattata? Ever heard of the Wurmple only challenge?

k
i think ummmm Bulbasaur and Treeko cause i like grass types:)
|

hmmm.... i still thinking about the starters. |
Well, in FR & GL i will choose Charmander :D , because it is strong ^^
and in R/S/E i always choose Torchick, because it is also strong because it is Fighting/Fire Type ^^ |
your best bet is to go with the two fire types if you only planning on playing through the games and not going to be challanging you friends to battles, because fire type pokemon are harded to find in the wild than water or grass, but mainly you should just pick the pokemon you like.

i usually use sceptile in r/s/e, but i think blazekin is good too, and i completed the game faster with blaziken than i did with sceptile. can't stand swampert and cannot use him/her whatsoever
blastoise is my fave in fr/lg and charmander is also pretty good. however bulbasaur is better for starters because of the type matchups you'll face in the first few gyms |
I'd go with Mudkip in R/S/E and Charmander in FR/LG
Note on the Mudkip, Catch a Tallow as early as you can and get it to lvl 16 by defeating the 1st gym, it'll help in the future. Note on the Charmander by the second gym, have a good grass pkmn, or Pikachu. either that, or have the thing up to lvl 25 with a decent amount of Jigglypuffs or Caterpies killed(for survival purposes) |
In my humble opinion I would rate the Starters as:
R/S/E 1. Swampert - Only reason I wouldn't choose it is cuz there is million water types, but it only has one weakness, to a type that is almost non-existant in those games, and it learns a ton of good attacks, to go with it's good attack stat. 2. Blaziken - Good Combo attacker and has good speed, also pretty much the only Fire in those games, except Camerupt, and Magcargo I think... neither are very good. 3. Sceptile - Just never really worked out for me, don't know why, it looks good on paper. FR/LG 1. Venusaur - Arguably the best Grass type in any game, it also isn't a super common type. If I don't choose it a descent alternate is Victreebell 2. Charizard - Fast special attacker, and fire is hard to come by, but a Ninetails or Arcanine will work almost/just as good 3. Blastoise - Quite possibly the worst starter ever, yeah defenses are pretty good, but it is slow as sin, and neither of it's attack stats are good enought to make it a real threat. Not to mention all of the good water types in those games. I.E. Gyrados, Starmie, Lapras, Omastar, Vaporeon, Dewgong... |
Charmander or Squirtle for FR/LG
Treecko for RSE |
I would like to know the logic behind choosing Squirtle. For the life of me I just can't find one, except maybe to beat Brock, but Bulbasur does that just as well.
