What are the chances of Shiny starters & Shiny Legends?

I'm really tempted to know, (wondering if this also applied to GSC and RSE so I just posted this here )

I'm pretty sure there is no shinies in the Day Care center right?

The chances of encountering a shiny Pokemon is always the same, set at 1 in 8192 chances, no matter the situation whether breeding/hatching eggs or battling. With legendaries, you practically have to save in front of the Pokemon and keep soft-resetting until it's a shiny one. Starters can be done in the same way at the beginning of the game, or by breeding the Pokemon later in the daycare as you can still get shinys out of the eggs you receive at the daycare.

The only exception was in G/S/C I believe, when you had something like a 50% of it being shiny if you bred a shiny Pokemon. But I've never tried that, so I'll let someone else confirm it.

Hmm I'll try it as Crystal was my most fruitful game of shiny hunting.

Well in order to get shiny starters, I believe you just have to breed them like nuts and hope for the best. 8D;; I'm not sure if you can actually pick a starter that's shiny, though. That'd be sweet. xD

For the shiny legendaries, people just save their game right in front of the Pokemon, and keep encountering it until it's shiny. But like someone up there said, the chances of any Pokemon being shiny is 1/8192 or some obscure number in the 8000s. So they're pretty rare.

for Shiny Starters or Legends (or anything in one set tile) just save then SR...

O.o?
Shiny starters aren't all hacks (if I read what you said correctly). It's possible to get them from soft resetting or hatching eggs.

Lone--Wanderer December 29th, 2007 4:37 PM

Indeed.

But soft-resetting for a Shining Starter would be rather tedious, moreso in G/S/C than in R/S/E or P/D.

ClassicRockFan December 29th, 2007 5:01 PM

I'm pretty sure that if you breed a shiny with something else in G/S/C, it would be 1/64 chance of being shiny, but I think they took that out in R/S/E and D/P.

evilcheese December 29th, 2007 5:17 PM

like in the wild shinies come every 1 out of 8000 or something.

Shadow December 29th, 2007 11:09 PM

Every Pokemon has the exact same set chance of being shiny, no matter how you get into battle with it or obtain it. Whether it is in tall grass, while surfing, given to you by Oak, a legendary from a Nintendo Event ticket, or whatever.

The only exceptions of this rule are back in G/S/C and they were:
-Red Gyarados event at the Lake of Rage (100% shiny chance)
-An Egg with a shiny parent
-The Odd Egg obtained in Crystal (50% shiny chance and had Dizzy Punch)

All of these were removed in later versions (both events and mechanics).

The PokeRadar is a new exception in D/P, as chaining supposedly increases the chance the longer a chain goes. Or is that a rumor too?

I think it raises your chance because you're meeting 4 pokemon at the same time.
That's how I got my shiny Eevee. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to luck.
