Oh, and is ElectaBUZZ a viable "Mixape"? 'Vire is too slow for me, especially since I have nothing to attract electric moves on my team.

No, it really isn't. It might be faster but the attack power it loses from Cross Chop is huge.

I tried using electabuzz in ADV and it sucked with the whole mixed deal...and if it sucks in ADV, it'll REALLY suck in DP.

Mehz0rz. It's because I swapped my Mixape for PhysicalApe, and I wanted a MixedAttacker, so I thought, ELECTIVIRE!! But then I realized that 'Vire would only be good with Motor Drive. Here's my set:

Electabuzz @ LO
Hasty - Static
252 SATK/26 ATK/232 SPD
CC
T-Bolt
HP Ice
Psychic (filler)

EVs let it outspeed Chomp.

Anti February 17th, 2008 3:20 PM

I can't understand a word of that.

But most Garchomps are Scarfed as stupid as it is so that doesn't really matter.

Chonlel48 February 17th, 2008 5:16 PM

Alright, I got a question.

I'm confused about EV training. I know how to EV train, I know where to EV train... but i don't know what to EV train in. My guess is what skill you are going to use it for, but I'm less than 25% sure. I post this here because it's not covered in the EV guides I searched for.

Thanks in advance!

Yes.

So if you're using Skarmory as your physical wall, 252 HP / 4 Attack / 252 Defense would be a good EV spread for it.

However, EV spread get way more complicated and the 252/252/4 spreads are usually not recommended. For example, you might find a Regirock with EVs in HP, SDef, Def, and Atk.

Well, what to EV train in depends on what Pokemon you're using. For example:

Let's take Porygon-Z. We want to make him a Choice Scarf sweeper. Since he has a 130 Base Special Attack, and he needs to be as fast as possible, so let's max out his Speed and Special Attack. Since we have 6 EVs left over, we'll put them into HP, because we have nothing better to do. His spread should look like this.

252 SAtk/ 252 Spd/ 6 HP

Now, take Dusknoir. We want him to be a Mixed Wall with Will-o-Wisp. Since he has horrible HP, we max that out first. And now, we balance his two Defenses. Since he has Will-o-Wisp to cripple physical attackers, we can move some Defense EVs into Special Defense. His spread should look like this.

252 HP/ 78 Def/ 180 SDef

Since I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, I'll just leave it like this and you can ask questions.

just look on serribii or wherever and look whichever ev's suit the pokemon you would like to train

Thanks both yah, and I get it now, I don't have any questions. I will save these for easy reference later on.

Now to embark on training a Lucario, and Chansey.

airconditioning February 17th, 2008 5:57 PM

Chonlel, it might be wise to take a look at Smogon's EV spreads. If you're a beginner, it can really help you decide what you need for your Pokemon. Of course, keep in mind that you shouldn't make your Pokes Smogon clones- I don't care what they say, Speed EVs on Blissey is freakin' retarded.

But for the most part, they're good (my Dusknoir's spread was from Smogon, btw).

sims796 February 17th, 2008 5:59 PM

I'm having two slight dilemas. In a recent match, I lost to a Sandstorm team. To Cradily & Aerodactyl, which was is final pokes. However, I could have won, if only i had the right move. Well, this is the question:

Flygon lost to Aero. I forgot that it gets a boost in Sandstorm. But, I could have beat it with Stone Edge. Here is is moves:

[email protected] Scarf
Nature:Naughty
EQ
Draco Meteor
U-Turn
Fire Blast
EV: 252 ATK, 100 SP.ATK,156 SPD

I was too lazy to fix the EV's.

So, should I remove Fire Blast for Stone Edge? I mean, I don't give two craps about Skarmory anymore, I have 3 pokes that can handle her.

I also (barely) lost my Forretress to a MAgnezone. Maggy barely survived an EQ, as Forry was trapped. As I expected. Forry doesn't need to handle Maggy anywho. So, I did want to give it Stealth Rock. But, well, here is her set:

[email protected]
Nature:Relaxed
EQ
Gyro Ball
Rest
Rapid Spin
EV: Doesn't matter now.

Well, I wanna put in Stealth Rock, but I don't know which move to lose, Gyro Ball or EQ. EQ can help me get rid of Meta, and especially Vire, but Byro Ball can help me rid other troublesome flyers, like Aero, Mence, etc. If I use EQ, I must run Shed Shell, for those dang Maggy, which I don't really want to.. He's my sole wall, so I can't afford to lose Rest.

Second, either answer the w\questions exactly, or don't waste time. Don't be stupid and suggest anything outside of the exact question. So don't give me "you should be using Choice Band! It'll fix everything!" or "Use Light Screen!", or even "forget Stealth Rock, it's stupid", or else you are officially a jackarse. And don't be stupid & try to slip it in your post, either.

Anti February 17th, 2008 7:04 PM

Fire Blast on Flygon...yuck. Honestly stone edge is way better, or even Fire Punch. Without a Choice Band Flygon needs the highest base power moves it can muster so do that.

As for forretress Stealth Rock does almost nothing to Maggy. Spikes will do much more and is better than Stealth Rock usually (as 25% damage is A LOT) so honestly Spikes over Stealth rock.

The only advantage SR has is that it disables ALL focus sashers which might be important to you, I dunno.

As for what move to replace it's Earthquake or Gyro Ball. Gyro Ball has pitiful Power Points and can get unreliable, even with STAB and low speed.

Honestly I'd go with Gyro Ball (meaning you should get rid of gyro Ball). You still hammer Weavile while it can only Brick Break you back (which odes almost nothing).

As for Gengar blocking rapid Spin and totally walling forretress, it'll be annoying but is easily avoided. This is when Scarf flygon will work in your favor greatly as you can just switch right away to flygon while Gengar comes in and kill it. However if you can't OHKO HP Ice will be the end of you. Also some Gengar carry choice Scarf (however stupid that may be) so be careful for that.

If you are really bent out of shape about losing gyro Ball then you'll have to ditch Rest and find forretress some wish support.

Naito February 17th, 2008 7:13 PM

What's a decent moveset for Starmie without EVs? Nature doesn't really matter much at the time. Actually, what are seriously deadly counters that can be found in Sinnoh for this Starmie:

[email protected]/Quick Claw (I play casually with my friends who don't really use items, so what really matters is who strikes first and the stragegy they have)

Ice Beam (Breloom is pretty much annihilated, and my friends do have a couple)
Grass Knot (Takes down T-Tar, a common menace in any game, casual or not)
Psychic (STAB'd Bonus is nice)
T-Bolt (Meh, taking advantage of Starmie's special attack here to take down a couple other water types and anything else that the other three moves can't counter)

airconditioning February 17th, 2008 7:17 PM

If it's just casual play with friends, that set should work fine.

But you're gonna be screwed when they discover EVs. And actually learn how to play. :P

Anti February 17th, 2008 7:20 PM

Starmie is too fast for Quick Claw :0 Give it something life Leftovers or Life Orb that'll benefit it. Otherwise what airconditioning said.

Well, not so much as yuck as you'd think, simply because Fire Punch is unavailible. I still can't stand Fire Blast, it was only here from pre-Brawl "Super Dragon" hype (Yoshi kicks arse). When it didn't do as much to Skar, I got pissed. Second, Maggy is the least of my problems, that's why I'm using Shed Shell. This is why I said only think of these two pokemon, and only answer the question EXACTLY as I asked, because all other precautions were thought up already. I already have pretty reliable counters for those two (especially Weavile), and it ain't Forry. I am also not worried in the least of Gengar walling Forry's Rapid Spin, I know it can do that, and that's also covered. I won't bother with the details.

Still, that said, the reason I want Gyro over EQ is because it hits all pokes, (including Gengar switch-ins, heh), including (but not limiting) Aero, Mence without Fire Blast (I've seen a few. Whatever), D-nite, etc. Those I REALLY wanna hit. It's those flying bastards. I hate them. But, I like Lefties, which I will lose with EQ gone (to avoid Maggy), and that PP...ick. So Gyro is gone. I can always stall with Rapid Spin :P

Once, I stalled a Spirtomb with Rest & Rapid Spin alone! Funny story.

Trust me, they're not gonna learn EVs for a while. Even though they can cook up decent movesets, they're way too lazy to hunt for EVs. Well they might do so when they participate in their first tourney or something. They're just run of the mill guys who don't bother with EVs or Ubers (yey, no ubers).

I thought you said you weren't using Shed Shell.

This is why I said only think of these two pokemon, and only answer the question EXACTLY as I asked, because all other precautions were thought up already.

Well I figure I at least explain my thinking. I mean c'mon, saying "GET RID OF RAPID SPIN ON FORRY NOA!" doesn't exactly help ;)

I already have pretty reliable counters for those two (especially Weavile), and it ain't Forry. I am also not worried in the least of Gengar walling Forry's Rapid Spin, I know it can do that, and that's also covered. I won't bother with the details.

I'm only working with what I know :P

Still, that said, the reason I want Gyro over EQ is because it hits all pokes, (including Gengar switch-ins, heh), including (but not limiting) Aero, Mence without Fire Blast (I've seen a few. Whatever), D-nite, etc. Those I REALLY wanna hit.

Dragonite only comes out late-game really and those that don't...RUN! Mence will intimidate you and take nothing from Gyro Ball. Aerodactyl I can understand. I can also see Gengar but otherwise I'm not too sure.

Also Infernape LOVES to come in on Rapid spin, spikes, or whatever you might be doing and Earthquake will hurt A LOT. Since nearly every team is weak to Infernape it wouldn't hurt.

It's those flying bastards. I hate them.

So do I.

But, I like Lefties, which I will lose with EQ gone (to avoid Maggy), and that PP...ick. So Gyro is gone. I can always stall with Rapid Spin :P

I've won SO MANY stall wars with rapid spin it isn't even funny :P

Once, I stalled a Spirtomb with Rest & Rapid Spin alone! Funny story.

That's just the definition of gg

I'm only working with what you tell me :P Also I do feel the need to explain myself or I feel like I'm just saying stuff out of thin air.

Okay my basement is flooding so I gotsa go :/

Either way Earthquake is honestly more useful and I know one thing flyers can't do...Rapid spin (unless you count the rarely-seen claydol) so you can set up a layer of spikes each time you bring it in. and since Gengar is covered by Flygon if you predict when it's coming in correctly (ditto for Aerodactyl) I'm inclined to say EQ would be much, much cooler IMO

Harpuia February 17th, 2008 7:45 PM

Hurry!

Well, Don't bother with the details. Everything you tell me, including the bit with Infernape, I already carefully plotted out. I only need to know if Stone Edge is best on Fly (that was obvious, I feel stupid for asking), and if I should either replace Gyro Ball or Earthquake for Stealth Rock (NOT Spikes, I do not care for that). Not replace Rest, not replace Rapid Spin, replace Earthquake or Gyro. All other info is useless, no disrespect. That's why I didn't post the whole team.

And I wasn't clear, that was my fault. If I lose Earthquake, and keep Gyro, then I put in Shed Skin, since I lose my only defense. If I keep EQ, I lose Gyro, Lefties stay.

And when I say "Damage to Mence", I don't mean he switches into me. Honestly now, why would I try to bust it up if it switches into me? :P As for Nite...well, I'm doing something. I've seen my fair sare of leads. I know what I'm talkin bout. No need to edjumacate me.

I KNOW! BWAAAAAAAAAA!

Seriously, if I am to rule the world, one must know these things. He punishes Outraging Nite's, who think's that thhey can suffice with just one Dragon Dance

EDIT: Don't Dunlop, ya just showed me some weaknesses I was already thinking of fixing. My one true rival is Nameless* . Although, I am thinking on getting a Rain Dancer, just to have Weather Control, which is getting increasingly important.

Okay dude you're sharp. Seriously I'm like afraid of you now the way you plot things out :0

I only need to know if Stone Edge is best on Fly (that was obvious, I feel stupid for asking), and if I should either replace Gyro Ball or Earthquake for Stealth Rock (NOT Spikes, I do not care for that).

Stealth Rock is an epic waste compared to Spikes but no need arguing about it :/ Seriously though TWENTY FIVE PERCENT! WOAH! (BTW not yelling, emphasis :P)

And yes Stone edge is best on Flygon silly :P If you're using Stelath Rock I would actually keep both. If you're using spikes I'd get rid of Gyro Ball...

...Actually that depends...do you have a PHazer to abuse SR/spikes? Do you have a Ghost to block rapid spin? Seriously sometimes SR is actually better in some cases so I must know! Gwaaa!

Not replace Rest, not replace Rapid Spin, replace Earthquake or Gyro. All other info is useless, no disrespect. That's why I didn't post the whole team.

Well yeah I had no plans replacing those two since both are essential to it being good (though Explosion over Rest works A-Okay too but obviously your team doesn't want that)

And I wasn't clear, that was my fault. If I lose Earthquake, and keep Gyro, then I put in Shed Skin, since I lose my only defense. If I keep EQ, I lose Gyro, Lefties stay.

Okay I get it now. This is about Magnezone isn't it? Stupid hunk of Metal >:0

And when I say "Damage to Mence", I don't mean he switches into me. Honestly now, why would I try to bust it up if it switches into me? :P As for Nite...well, I'm doing something. I've seen my fair sare of leads. I know what I'm talkin bout. No need to edjumacate me.

Well seriously all forms of Salamence except the rare choice Band sets destroy Forretress with fire attacks so I wouldn't really owrry about it.

Edjumacate! Uh-oh,. too much exposure to George W. Bush! RUN! (You know, with that exposure to Bush your plans for world domination are pretty much toast :P)

I KNOW! BWAAAAAAAAAA!

I you you know...WHAT DO YOU KNOW? Oh no, mid-life crisis time...and I'm in middle school T_T

Seriously, if I am to rule the world, one must know these things. He punishes Outraging Nite's, who think's that thhey can suffice with just one Dragon Dance

Ew now they wouldn't be very smart outraging with only one dragon Dance and a steel wall still in play, now would they? then again people are stupid enough to do it with Scarfchomp and people are stupid enough to do stupid stuff like that so it's viable enough for me.

EDIT: Don't Dunlop, ya just showed me some weaknesses I was already thinking of fixing. My one true rival is Nameless* . Although, I am thinking on getting a Rain Dancer, just to have Weather Control, which is getting increasingly important.

Indeed it is. I've learned the hard way what Rain Dance teams will do. you know I would crack a global warming joke right now but I've taken too many shots at the government in one post. TREASON!

Ew I'm never in this happy a mood even with hurricane winds outside lol

But seriously I honestly think that Earthquake's pros outweigh Gyro Ball's pros. Really I've found Earthquake way more useful. also I don't know how your team does with Ice Beam Tyraniboah but Forretress sure does well beating it while Gyro Ball has low power on TTar and gets stalled out of PP quickly.

Or yeah it's your call but I will try to impose my will on you muhahahahahahahahahaha! You realize you now have competition for world domination?

But seriously what kind of support do you have for Spikes/SR? Cause if you don't have a ghost Spikes become kinda worthless...or, kinda. But if you do have a ghost really Spikes >>>>>>>>>>> SR due to Damage output. Getting down 3 layers is really easy.

Then again I come from ADV where spikes were the only option (and a really good one at that) and my opinion is totally biased so ignore me.

My Electivire has a 31 IV in Sp. Atk, and maxed out EV's in Sp. atk. His hidden power is Ice, just what I needed, but its power is only 43 :/ Is it worth keeping?

No, it really isn't. A supereffectibe HP Ice still is outdamaged by thunderbolt without a supereffective hit. Even if it were after a dragon it would only outdamage thunderbolt by a really small margin. Ice Punch is the next best thing really.

Well, the pros were

Gyro
-Hits Flyers
-Hits just about everything

Con
Um, hello? 5 frackin PP!
I lose lefties

EQ Pro
-Takes care of those I should be walling (Meta, Vire, etc)
-More PP

Con
Well, I can't hit everything
Levitators, espicially Gengar, can come in easier

The pros definately outweight the cons. EQ stays. Besides, SR can handle flyers.

My reason for SR?

I am sick & tired of pokemon BARELY surviving. I mean Barely! It's so annoying. I want them to stop coming in once & for all. Everytime, I keep saying "Dang, I wish I had SR..." so no more talking. It's going in. If I still had Noctowl on my team, then Spikes go in, since I can PHaze. But in this case, Versatility over Power.

Well, Sandstorm teams are annoying, but I want weather that won't hurt my team. Rain Dance seems good. Might use Rain Dance on Grumpig. I dunno.
