eh...okay. Here's what I'm going to say:

1) Smart =/= Common sense
2) TBH it's not my style to take baby steps. I'm going to assume the person asking has some background knowledge of pokemon. (Ie:Fire moves have no place in rain) I'd actually find it insulting for someone to assume less of me, but that's just my personal ideology that I follow.
3) Never met a person who wasn't aware of weather effects.
4) We can sit here all day debating my obvious reluctance to teach pokemon (which is indeed off topic) or we can drop this and be satisfied that the asker is content. I choose the second one. =]

Done.

Metagross @ Choice Specs
Modest
244 HP/252 SpA/14 Def
Flash Cannon/Shadow Ball
HP Fire
Psychic/Shadow Ball
Grass Knot

Another gimmick set! After trying this out, I sorta thought it was fun. It's moveset offers decent typing, and most of the usual "Metagross counters" get taken out quickly. Grass Knot OHKO's Swampert, HP Fire 2HKO's Skarmory, 2HKO's Bronzong, OHKO's Forretress, and does a nice chunk to Magnezone. Psychic and Flash Cannon are the main STABs, but either could be replaced with Shadow Ball (which can 3HKO Cresselia)

HP Fire vs. Max HP/0 SpD Forretress: 172.88%-204.52%
HP Fire vs. Max HP/0 SpD Skarmory: 81.44%-95.81%
HP Fire vs. Max HP/0 SpD Bronzong: 53.25%-62.72%

Shadow Ball vs. Max HP/0 SpD Cresselia: 41.44%-49.10%

Flash Cannon vs. Max HP/Max SpD Regirock (No SS): 69.04%-81.10%
Flash Cannon vs. Max HP/Max SpD Regirock (SS): 46.03%-54.25%

Aurafire October 16th, 2008 8:20 PM

I like it, Vance....It's gimmicky but it'll sure surprise some people. I'd actually prefer this to a mix-gross set =P

Archer October 16th, 2008 9:58 PM

It's worth noting that most Rain Dance Teams run a Steel that can benefit from the halved fire damage.

It's true, though, that you can't not always avoid weather because one team member doesn't like it. Weather is so common, so you can't avoid it anyway. This applies more to SS and Hail, however Rain/Sun only lasts for 5 turns.

Its ok, but i would put poison jab over gunk shot because of the lack of accuracy and perhaps stone edge over ice punch for more damage.

El Gofre October 17th, 2008 11:01 AM

I haven't heard much about it, so am I correct in presuming Origin Giratina has been bullied into the corner of unused ubers with Reg Deoxys?

well anyways, with Infernape, HP is out because i tested it last night and it was Bug and i know that it cant be changed since its said that IV's cant be changed once a pokemon is obtained, but now im considering ThunderPunch but im still not sure ><

crystalvelox October 17th, 2008 1:35 PM

For a platinum swords dance-orb scizor which final move slot to the bullet punch, swords dance, roost gives most benefit? X-Scissors I know is useful for neutral stab. Superpower is more powerful verison of brick break, but lowers it's usefulness after the defence loss. Brick Break isn't as powerful. All this still gets walled by gyarados, zapdos.

Watch out for that jet Metang! October 17th, 2008 1:44 PM

Is DD-mence still useable in platnium or do I have to go with choice scarf set?

Pure physical ape. It hits hard, but it's pretty easy to stop imo. If this set doesn't work out for you (somehow) I'd suggest you breed for a new ape that lets you abuse mixed attacking.

I personally use the same set w/ X- Scissors. Roost with Superpower abuse isn't going to assure you a healthy Scizor tbh. So if you're using roost X-Scissor > Superpower. Brick break is meh. It hits for SE on Normal, Dark, Rock, Steel, Ice but Steel/Bug already covers Dark, Rock and Ice. Normal isn't much of a problem with scizor's humongous attack with STAB. So fighting moves on scizor aren't neccessary imo unless you want specifically to cover a steel. Scizor generally can't do much at all to Gyarados or Zapdos.

Yeah, of course.

Don't get me wrong, scarfmence is pretty damn good too. It's just the issue of having to set up vs hitting hard and fast(which is what this metagame seems to be about lately).

Crystal Shaymin October 17th, 2008 2:52 PM

Alright, since azelf got a whole new group of physical moves in platinum, I was wondering if a physical azelf is available. If one is, I'd like a set for it.

Lunar Fang October 17th, 2008 3:25 PM

I never tried one before, but I'll give it a go:

[email protected] Orb/Focus Sash
Jolly ll Levitate
252 Atk/ 252 Spd
-Zen Headbutt
-Explosion
-Thunderpunch
-Fire Punch

yeah..looks a little freaky. I suppose SR and taunt could fit somewhere on there depending on what you're using him for. Hope I helped...

Crystal Shaymin October 17th, 2008 3:38 PM

kind of.
So far I have:

[email protected] Choice scarf
Adamant nature
252 Atk/ 252 Speed
~Zen headbutt
~Fire Punch
~Explosion/taunt
~U-turn/Stealth rock

but anything could be changed on it.

Lunar Fang October 17th, 2008 3:54 PM

Yeah, that looks fine. Atleast I didn't totally fail. =]

To Write Love On Her Arms October 17th, 2008 4:57 PM

Can someone here help me with a lanturn?

I need help cause Im looking for an EV'd lanturn but I dont know what ability would be best, tell me what you think.

Special Sponge Leftovers Volt Absorb Calm
Moveset and EVs
~ Surf
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunder Wave / Toxic
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe

While most of his base stats aren't that impressive, Lanturn will be walling special attacks left and right, thanks in no small part to handy resists to Fire Blast, Ice Beam, Surf and immunity to Thunderbolt, some of the most common special attacks. Ice Beam punishes Grass-types and Dragons, like Altaria. Finally, you can have Lanturn provide status support. Thunder Wave cripples fast sweepers, but you may find Toxic more effective as it hinders Hypno, Grumpig, Gastrodon, and Quagsire, who all switch into Lanturn often.

"ParaFusion" Leftovers Volt Absorb Calm
Moveset and EVs
~ Discharge / Thunder
~ Surf
~ Confuse Ray
~ Thunder Wave / Ice Beam
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe

The same idea as above, except Thunderbolt and Thunder Wave been merged into either Discharge or Thunder. Whether you want to take the gamble with Thunder's shaky accuracy or are satisfied with the lower power is up to you. An enemy that's confused and paralyzed will not attack five out of eight times on average, so if you're feeling lucky feel free to try and force your opponent to tear his or her hair out. Thunder Wave gives you a more reliable way to paralyze enemies, while Ice Beam helps to wear down Grass-types.

Sleep Talker Leftovers Volt Absorb Calm
Moveset and EVs
~ Discharge / Thunderbolt
~ Surf
~ Rest
~ Sleep Talk
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe

The most tankish form of Lanturn. Attack until your health gets low, start snoozing, rinse and repeat. Rest helps to get rid of problematic status conditions, like Toxic when switching into Blastoise, or Will-O-Wisp from a Torkoal. Grass-types with Sleep Powder make sleep absorbing somewhat risky, but Lanturn is a safe bet for absorbing Hypnosis from Noctowl. However, the likes of a Substitute/Calm Mind Jynx or can turn his peaceful slumber into a true nightmare.

Choice Specs Choice Specs Volt Absorb Modest
Moveset EVs
~ Thunderbolt
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Hidden Power Grass / Brine
40 HP / 252 SpA / 136 SpD / 80 Spe

Lanturn's attempt at bringing some offense to the table. Unlike many other Choice item users, Lanturn has a way to restore lost health: Volt Absorb. His offensive movepool is limited, barely enough to finish the set, but the variety is high enough. Probably serves you better in UU matches where you won't be met by fat pink blobs and such all the time. Brine gets 130 base power if your opponent's health is less than half. If you're not able to get Hidden Power Grass and aren't willing to use Hydro Pump, Thunder, Blizzard or Hyper Beam, it is kind of your only "decent" option.

Thanks.

EDIT: I just realised that I put this in the wrong forum, It was meant to be in Strageties and Movesets, sorry.

Zebra Thunderhead October 17th, 2008 5:23 PM

This belongs in the Strategies & Movesets forum.

-MOVED-

Archer October 17th, 2008 5:36 PM

Actually this sort of thing should just go in the Request a Team/Individual Moveset thread.
Anyway, the first set is usually the best and as far as abilities and EVs go... Most sets run the same spread and Volt Absorb is always the best.

Spiritombreeder October 17th, 2008 5:38 PM

It really depends on what spot its going to fill on your team.

does this sound like a good set for a uu sweeper swellow? i went toxic over flame because the flame orb would halve swellows attack even with guts, right?

. October 17th, 2008 8:07 PM

NO, it wouldn't halve Swellow's attack stat. Use Flame Orb, and put either Protect/Pursuit on that Swellow instead of Roost.

Aurafire October 17th, 2008 9:41 PM

Quick attack is also an option, but I'd go with pursuit for the type coverage.

Dunsparce October 18th, 2008 5:03 AM

How about this?

Wormadam Leaf [email protected] Specs
Modest
252 HP, 252 SATK, 6 SPD
Leaf Storm
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Signal Beam

Basically the standard set, but with Signal beam over the hard-to-obtain HP Ice and Shadow Ball over Energy Ball

Wormadam Sand [email protected] Band
Adamant
252 HP, 252 ATK, 6 SPD
Earthquake
Rock Tomb
Sucker Punch
Bug Bite

Thanks to Platinum, is has some more Physical Moves so it can go Choice Band.

Wormadam Trash [email protected]
Modest
252 HP, 6 DEF, 252 SATK
Metal Sound
Flash Cannon
Shadow Ball
Signal Beam

Once again, basically the Standard with Signal Beam over HP.
