Need a bit of Help With Genger (Urgent)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I traded my Genger from firered, it was EV trained there is it still valid in diamond the EV training i did in fire and red? Its current moveset is:

[email protected] Focus Sash/ rash nature
Hypnosis
Thunder
Shadow Ball
Destiny Bond

I know il keep destiny bond but the other 3, Im into changing if anyone could help with good suggustions, oh and here's the worse thing... it seems very very weak.

at lvl 70 its stats are.

174 hp
127 attack
127 defense
222 special
114 special dee
200 speed

when its capped back to 50 for battle tower, its special attack is only like 150... and speed even worse...I need to use this gengar in battle in 24hrs so il fix it up then get rid of it and raise another i think.

But need a band aid solution for my terrible poke to be competitive

thanks

Destiny Bond fails honestly, the things that switch into it are faster like Weavile etc or special walls. AND with focus sash ?

Weavile used Night Slash

Gengar hangs on with focus sash.

Gengar uses whatever

Withdraw Weavile

Go Blissey

Gengar uses Destiny Bond.

Blissey lol Thunderwave

Blissey lol Ice Beam.

Focus Blast in that last slot gives it much better coverage against things like that.

Rash is a horrible Nature. Timid or a + speed nature always on Gengar

I hate to say it but that Gengar isnt fully ev trained in speed or sp.att.

Its speed should be between 203 and 224

Its sp.att should be between 254 and 277

Yeah that needs re-breeding.

Lady Nicole December 30th, 2007 6:40 AM

What on earth did you EV train it in? o.O It looks to me like you've EV trained it in attack, defense and speed :\ It should have 252 EVs in special attack, 252 EVs in speed and 6 EVs in HP or wherever you like really.

Swap Thunder for Thunderbolt. Thunder's accuracy is not reliable, unless you're planning on using Rain Dance just beforehand.

Dark_Azelf is right: take off Destiny Bond and give it Focus Blast, Sludge Bomb, Energy Ball or whatever floats your boat =P

EDIT: Yeah, Dark_Azelf is right about the nature too. Give it a Timid nature because it would be silly not to take advantage of Gengar's massive base speed!

CoolTrainerXtasy December 30th, 2007 6:49 AM

so all weavilles are always faster?

thanks tones for the help will re breed

Swap Thunder for Thunderbolt. Thunder's accuracy is not reliable, unless you're planning on using Rain Dance just beforehand. Or has it hold Wide Lens

Gengar @ Wide Lens
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAttack / 252 Speed / 4 HP
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder / Thunderbolt
- Hypnosis
- Focus Blast

Gengar @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAttack / 252 Speed / 4 HP
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [ICE] / Energy Ball
- Focus Blast

Weavile is always faster than Gengar unless it's a crappy Weavile that hasn't been EV trained properly, or unless Gengar is holding a Choice Scarf.

I still wouldn't risk accuracy 77, but maybe it's just me... not after Focus Blast missed 4 out of 5 times in one battle I did, anyway :\ *sigh* I will never use Focus Blast ever again.

UGAtyler07 December 30th, 2007 9:39 PM

Gengar needs the Choice Specs with the Timid nature. Gengars moveset should probably be:
Thunderbolt (Lady Nichole is right, Thunder's 70% accuracy is not worth it.)
Shadow Ball
Dark Pulse or SludgeBomb (replaced Focus Blast [with its accuracy, it, like thunder, is not worth it] and I once battled and for some reason, it never hit. I dont recomend it for Gengar.)
Energy Ball ( Dont use hidden power, Energy Ball is more efficient)
This is just my oppinion but I hope it helps

All but thunderbolt on that set is totally walled by steels. Focus Blast may be inaccurate, but it is necessary on Gengar. If you still don't trust its accuracy, use HP fighting, though specsGar really needs HP Ice.

CoolTrainerXtasy January 2nd, 2008 6:28 AM

Ok here's my ideas for the new Genger

252 Speed 252 Special Attack 12 HP

[email protected] Claw
Nature Timd

Focus Blast (Weavile killer, dark pokemone killer)
Shadow Ball (120 with STAB)
Destiny Bond (friends are relativetly inexperiened)
pyschic?

I dont wanna put thunderbolt in because electvire will most likely be in my team and thats enough isnt it

I dont know what wide lens, or choice specs do lol. I was thinking about even using a focus sash so weavile brings it down to one hp but then it kills weavile, and has high speed etc to keep sweeping.

My Genger will be facing a weavile, fighting skarmory's, rhyperior, maybe even porygon etc, and i do want it as a specil sweeper after some advice from someone who has had a fair amount of experience.

How does the whole substitute genger work out?

Faceless* January 2nd, 2008 7:06 AM

Gengar@Focus Sash
Trait - Levitate
Nature - Timid
Moves -
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Hypnosis/Shadow Ball
- HP Ice

My classic set.

Gengar@Choice Specs
Trait - Levitate
Nature - Modest
Moves -
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- HP Ice/Energy Ball

Opponent predicts Timid Gengar, sends out Blissey, gets schooled with the help of Choice Specs.

Gengar@Petaya Berry
Trait - Levitate
Nature - Timid
Moves -
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

Substitute down, take the Berry, sweep with Sub protection.

Gengar@Focus Sash/Leftovers
Trait - Levitate
Nature - Timid
Moves -
- Taunt
- HP Ice
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast/Shadow Ball/Energy Ball

Another good way of putting Blissey in a bad position.

CoolTrainerXtasy January 2nd, 2008 7:13 AM

Focus Blast (Weavile killer, dark pokemone killer)
Shadow Ball (120 with STAB)
Destiny Bond (friends are relativetly inexperiened)
taunt?

is this ok ^^

dont know many of friends who use blissey, what does hp ice mean

i see so is taunt worth it?

El Gofre January 2nd, 2008 12:27 PM

Scrap destiny bond, as inexperienced as your friends our they will know to switch out when they are about to die. Unless you're running mean look its not worth using.

And taunt isn't reliable enough for me. Used against walls it could be useful to stop them building up their defenses, but forcing any kind of attacker to hit gengar's mediocre defences is suicide.

Well its stops you getting Statused and most importantly paralyzed from blissey and also stops it healing.

CoolTrainerXtasy January 2nd, 2008 10:42 PM

i see think il go with taunt stops skarmory too

Gengar doesn't need to stop Skarmory, Gengar eats Skarmory

CoolTrainerXtasy January 10th, 2008 12:53 AM

Thunerbolt, hypnosis and focus blast have not great accuracy so im attaching wide lens, is this good? is itthe item that most raises accuracy?

It's entirely up to you, my dear friend =P I wouldn't bother, myself because I'm obsessed with accuracy XD It only raises the accuracy by 10%. That is, it will make an accuracy of 70 an accuracy of 77 with Wide Lens. Not good nuff IMO :\

CoolTrainerXtasy January 10th, 2008 3:21 AM

so it goes from 70 to 77, i thought 10% meant it went from 70 to 80...

luke January 10th, 2008 6:06 AM

Thunderbolt's accuracy is 99%. I think you'll be fine.

No that would be 10% of 100. 10% of 70 is 7. DO they not teach percentages in maths anymore?
