Who would use a laptop for gaming? Laptops have just become a fashon and everyone I know would prefer them even if they are slower. I personaly prefer desktops even though i do not game because it would always be more powerful and not all compact and overheated.

Yeah, laptops just don't provide the same feel that desktops do, which, in my opinion, is way better. Desktops > Laptops in gaming, but for practical reasons, a lot of people prefer laptops.

You're quoting me while asking that, yet that post already stated why...

The only practical reason for a laptop is portability.
I'm only on a laptop because it's the family computer, my own desktop is in pieces and awaiting its renovation (it's an ex-office computer built in 2001, so I've got a lot of part to get xD).

Yu_&_Rei October 5th, 2008 1:05 PM

Laptops are something everyone will need at some point, when you're in college you should have a laptop, and some laptops can be used for gaming.

Aegis October 5th, 2008 1:22 PM

What Audy described is a lot like what I would like... actually, it's what I have XD; I have a very nice desktop that I got just a month or two ago, it's really powerful and all that (I can have World of Warcraft open and running, Photoshop, Firefox, in a Skype call, MSN, AIM, and have AVG scanning and I don't even notice it XD), and the monitor for it is pretty large as well. It's reeeally nice, and I'm really thankful I managed to persuade my parents I needed it for school XD; I also have a laptop I bought last year that's not that good, but I just use it for web-surfing and chatting, for when I just want to sit and my bed and watch TV or something. :>

So far, the setup has worked pretty well. The most annoying thing is when I do something on one computer, say... code a signature, and then when I want to convert it to BB code for PC use on the other I have to dig up my external hard drive and move it and and... ;; I'm so lazy.

Aegis October 5th, 2008 1:32 PM

I stopped doing file sharing like that a looong time ago XD; Back when I had XP on my old desktop and old laptop, I had it set up to have a Shared Documents folder for each one, but the problem was that my parents kept snooping through them... and um, yeah, that isn't always a good thing ^^; Not sure if it still works like that on the Vista file sharing, but that's the main reason I haven't set it up. That, and I'm way too lazy XD;

Lusankya October 5th, 2008 1:35 PM

Vista is terrible for gaming, I use XP.

So... password protect it so that only your computers can access it. XD[/obvious solution?]

Comic Tragedy October 5th, 2008 1:38 PM

You guys are just lucky you have a PC on hand. I miss out on so many games because my family is sworn to buying apple products. I don't think they can imagine buying a single PC for me or my family.

No, no. Its all about the apples at my house. :<

Lusankya October 5th, 2008 1:43 PM

Lol, Mac fanatics. You're missing out on 90% of the computer market! How does Microsoft dominate the market like so when it has crap like Vista?

Cherrim October 5th, 2008 1:44 PM

lol ew. :( Tell them to buy you a copy of Vista or something so you can dual-boot and it'd make everything better. Having only Macs in the house seems so weird to me. XD We've never owned one in this house.

@Lusankya: What's wrong with Vista? :(

There is no need for a laptop at college. If you've got a lot of wrinting that has to be done at home and college, small ≤1GB drives are there for that, much cheaper than a laptop. :D

PC = personal computer. I officially hate Macintosh's adverts for mutating that acronym.
Don't worry, some day you'll get your own house, your own computer... :D

If you don't mind me also answering that: there's nothing greatly wrong with Vista per se *cough*doesn'tworkwitholdergames*cough*, it's just a redundant drain on RAM. XP is still far from outdated and I'd rather stick with it to be honest.

LOL. Oh wow. I thought you were gonna retort back with something like, "I would but my parents demand the password anyway" but... but you didn't. Way to go. XD;

Aegis October 5th, 2008 1:55 PM

I haven't had any problems with Vista either D: I actually like it a lot better then XP. :>

Legobricks October 5th, 2008 1:57 PM

You know, everyone, what's nice is how fast and simple 98 is.

The good old days were indeed good when it comes to computers, even though the meagre 1.44MB floppies were a bit of a concern.

I've never had a bluescreen error with 98.

Sylphiel October 5th, 2008 2:00 PM

I used to get blue screens of death nearly every day whenever I was using windows 98. :[ So freaking annoying.

(Funny enough, I stopped using IE, and they just about stopped as well. Huh.)

Saryka October 5th, 2008 2:00 PM

I haven't had any problems with it either, although every time I tell people I use Vista, I'm automatically criticized. It's not my fault my laptop came with Vista and I'm too poor to downgrade (not to mention I don't need it; if I were to ever downgrade it would be if Vista's giving me huge problems, which it hasn't). >_>;

EDIT// Ah, the Blue Screen of Death. This laptop here's been taken in six times, three of which were for Blue Screens. D:

Aegis October 5th, 2008 2:05 PM

Lol Blue Screen of Death, I got that many times on my old laptop with '98 on it. :[ And since I couldn't peel myself away from computers long enough to send it in, I just dealt with them.

The Red Screen of Death is a nickname for the error message which existed in some beta versions of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows Vista. It was dropped in Beta 1 (Build 5112) of Windows Vista for all errors except boot loader errors. It can also be found (but rarely) in versions and early builds of Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system, even when it was known as codename "Memphis".

Anyone ever had one? :D
I haven't.

Gymnotide October 5th, 2008 2:25 PM

I have the blue screen of death as my screensaver :/
I downloaded it and it freaked my brother out when I changed his screensaver to it also.

That was the part I was mainly getting at (and I don't care how common screen errors may have been, that just gives me more a reason to ask if one of them was red).
I don't need a point, I should be able to ask simple things in a chat thead; but my point is that it's unusual. Like how chicken is boring and deer more interesting, bluescreens are boring and redscreens more interesting.

PS: Sorry if I sound rude in this post.

ITT: Make analogies like this one.

Like how air is boring and liquid nitrogen fumes more interesting, bluescreens are boring and redscreens more interesting.

Haha, that's awesome XD; I'd pay big bucks to have seen his reaction when he saw it.
