Even though you shouldn't keep them on eternally, as long as they're in a cool room and have a proper cooling system, they should be fine. Especially of note is not to put laptops on a soft, malleable surface, because that will stuff up the opening in the bottom of the laptop for the fan to blow through, causing it to overheat.

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 5:21 PM

my house is usually cold, so maybe thats why, I usually shut it off every week or so. shame on me I shouldn't leave it on that long but I do.

ChibiNICAhead. October 6th, 2008 6:11 PM

o.o My computer never overheats... But thats probably because i've got three fans that fit in my computer case and another two that I just put in there o.o

Sushi. October 6th, 2008 6:12 PM

My Laptop after a while, starts to overheat in my lap mostly but sometimes I'm fine to deal with it.

Chibi-chan October 6th, 2008 6:14 PM

iMiraj, why can't you just use your own account? -_-;;
What's the point of this one?

Tokin October 6th, 2008 6:29 PM

my laptop only overheats if I leave it with the lid open too long or obviously when I obstruct the hot air exhaust, other than that it can operate for days

ChibiNICAhead. October 6th, 2008 6:37 PM

o.o

Just because you guys have moderator privellages :( You have to tell the whole world that I'm really Miraj XD

But I dont really care XD I kinda like this account :D

Mr. Curling Iron October 6th, 2008 6:38 PM

But I also like this one..

Lid open? o.o

Since when did laptops have lids? :S

Cherrim October 6th, 2008 7:27 PM

The screen of the laptop is also referred to as its lid. So when the lid is down, it means the laptop is closed. Alternately, and open lid is when the screen is facing up.

One of the fans in my laptop is broken because HP sucks. I have a cooling pad, though. Takes up a USB port but keeps the laptop from frying itself so it's a fair trade. It's also nice to be able to use it on my bed or lap and not have to worry about overheating at all. (Mind you, my laptop can overheat on a clear surface with no obstructions so... <_<)

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 7:30 PM

you have HP? and it sucks that bad? My older sister has an HP and hers is totally fine, for some reason I can never use a laptop while lying down, I have to be sitting upright.

TRIFORCE89 October 6th, 2008 7:34 PM

Laptops are just fickle. Portability and moving parts is not a good combo, regardless of the brand. It's one of the few things you should get extended warranties for.

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 7:36 PM

I have a 3 year warranty for mine. But I think I lost the reciept

I'll spare you my horror story of actually trying to send it in for repair, but once I finally did get my laptop shipped off to HP, it was because the display had completely stopped working. So I get it back expecting them to have, you know, checked out the whole laptop to make sure it's perfectly functional before sending it back, lest I have to sent it back again. The day I got it back, the fan got even worse. It was kind of bad to begin with but now I'm pretty sure it doesn't work at all and I sent it in... late April?

Yeah HP sucks. :( I think they were better before but now I could never recommend their notebooks.

That's because we have the same laptop, Erica :[ dv6000, right?

TRIFORCE89 October 6th, 2008 7:40 PM

My Mac had overheating problems, but that was confident only to those produced in the same batch. They replaced my laptop with a brand new one. But then the E key fell of like the next day. XD But, got a new one put on.

Now, I should get my MagSafe Adapter (basically the power cord) replaced. The end is frayed a bit (because I'm stupid and never have my laptop unpluged which caused the plug to tear and totally destroy my battery life @[email protected])

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 7:41 PM

I don't like mac, its seems a bit more complicated to use for some reason.

Shiny October 6th, 2008 7:43 PM

I think my cousin has a mac, way too difficult to use xD;

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 7:49 PM

I know right? my cousin has one and like if my mouse goes off then the window will be disabled and I never knew that if ur mouse goes to the bottom then you'd pop up the menu, I'd have to go to recent programs or something like that to find the safari explorer thing.

TRIFORCE89 October 6th, 2008 7:52 PM

The first time you use it yeah. When I got mine I was basically going "Where the heck is my task bar?" XD I don't find it any different in difficulty, just different. Mac OS predates Windows anyway. Does some things better, but Windows have such a large userbase - it has some niches that it just does better because the software is there. I'm fine with both OSes.

Bamachi - The point of a Mac is easy multitasking, which is why all windows are in focus so to speak. And the dock can be placed anywhere, not just the bottom. Safari can be placed there for easy access. I use QuickSilver to launch my apps.

Shiny October 6th, 2008 7:53 PM

PC's are way easier to use lol

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 7:54 PM

yeah but when I have to go out I take my laptop with me, I use it on the skytrain and when I'm chilling in starbucks, it comes in handy.

Her October 6th, 2008 7:56 PM

Eh. My laptops old, and has a crappy mouse. It always goes to the corner of the screen.

It's frickin' annoying.

Shiny October 6th, 2008 7:59 PM

Laptops are easy to use, only when using a mouse though lol

Yu_&_Rei October 6th, 2008 8:11 PM

there are mouses for laptops? thats interesting but how do you move your mouse when theres no area for it? like if your sitting on a skytrain? Sitting on tables is an exception.

Shiny October 6th, 2008 8:19 PM

Well, of course you can't use it if you have no room for it lol
