I also don't like how the font on the right is cut off at the top, but I do like the placement of it. Other than that it's a great sig. I love the brick.

Annd here's something I just cooked up for my boyfriend's guild site. The c4d on the left side I don't like too much, but overall I'm pretty pleased.

@pinksyllibus: I like it. Though that just may be my love for flaming hands. My big qualm is the big, empty left side with the long, red thingy. If it's only for a guild, it should be fine, but that much negative space is usually a no-no. XD

So, I got Soulcalibur IV last night and have been playing non-stop, so it's only fitting I do a Batman banner!

...wait a second. Anyways, this one features Talim, priestess of the Wind Dance.

@fate - It's pretty good. The bottom part gets boring though so I'd crop off a good 50-60 pixels of height from the bottom. The text could use improvement too. The sig is mostly render though, it would be nicer if the background were a bit blurred and then it had some foreground effects to add depth.

Here's my latest sig, for a SOTW on another board.

(and here's the black and white one that's the actual submission, that being the theme and all...)

Heroes July 31st, 2008 12:07 AM

Wow, I love the black and white one. It's not as realistic but I do llike it better. And I like how the building in the back left has a giant chunk missing out of it.

I just started migging signatures, and I dont care one bit about a border. I used GIMP for these, because I dont have the money to buy Photoshop, and I dont fine the reason to take the time to find a different program when GIMP is perfectly fine.

I felt like making this one because I'm a Jeff Hardy fan and it's funny to see him go flipping through the air.

I made both of these for a different site, so that explains the names.

I didn't bother with blurring the background, or the text, but I cut off a bit and put some splatter effects in the foreground.

fate: I think you did a beautiful job with this. I think even withought the blur it has some great blur! One thing I would change though is creating a little more saturation on you're colors. Not to much to ruin the effect, but just enough that it makes the focal pop a little more.

The text is good, the colors are too muted for my taste, but they're not too bad if that's your preference~ All in all, it's a good icon, but I prefer ones that have more.... pop in them. xD

Ok thanks, I like the first one too. xD; And thanks again for the comments. And yes Loki, I did intentionaly make it like that, muted. And maybe I'll try taht next time... adding pop in icons xD;

I think that both of the banners are a little bit dull, they just need a bit of oomph. I would suggest putting some special effects in there and something to make it more interesting. Just that some areas look a bit plain. Love the animated icons btw.. =P

A work still in progress, how am I going for one of my first smudge sigs?
I will just be adding some special effects but how is it to start?

Renyui! August 1st, 2008 3:17 PM

Kuggles: Looks nice for a smudge sig. The colours are good but they dont blend with the render much. Try a bit of dodge/burn on the background, and maybe a c4d would give a nice touch?

Ooka August 1st, 2008 6:00 PM

@Hazuki
They're pretty dark, however I think it compliments what's going on with the sig.

Well, this one was a request, and I just wanted to know if it was alright or not.

Ooka:
The banner is nicely designed but I think you have over sharpened the C4D's in the back. They just look really choppy and kinda draw from the render which should be the focal. If you can't make them less choppy, then make them a darker colour so they stand out less or blur the edges or something.

http://i37.*.com/2qd50mf.png
Ok this is the final product from my last banner I posted.
My like 2nd finished smudge banner using some special effects I've never used before.

Renyui! August 1st, 2008 7:18 PM

Kuggles: It still looks a tad boring near the render, but the clipping mask in the corner is nice. The border could go and the text could blend a little more, but the lighting and colours near the right of the render's head are nice. Good job.

Raizaku: I luv this banner. You did a great job selecting a render..... i luv TWEWY xD *shot*
Anyway great effects and all but the b&w is iffy because of all of the white. The contrast is so great that it is kinda blinding below the focal instead of excluzively complementing. So personaly i would loose the b&w

ok rate these I am trying a smudge style.

o1. The thing that's annoying me is the smudge on the right side of her hair. It just looks... unbalanced? .-. Second, it's too boring on the right side. Maybe move the text over there or something. XD Get like, a light source too. It looks like the light is coming from the right side... which it shouldn't be. D:

o2(s). I like the second one better. It fits Spidey more. <3 Pluuusss, it makes it a lot less boring and more distributed. :D Text needs to be... uhh... less noticeable. It distracts the attention. :>

But heck, I can't do better than you. XD;

Like, first vector banner... EVAR. o.o Just need some opinions about whether I should continue to do vector or throw all of my vector brushes away. XD

moments. August 2nd, 2008 3:03 PM

Raikazu:
Nice banner! The text is awesome! It just fits in there, goes great with the flow and suits the vector style wonderfully! The brushes are great, though I think you should either brush a bit more near the render or just move it over so the brushes are touching the side of her body. The background is great! It makes it simple but not boring. Just between the brushes there is a gap, try filling this with the purple dots so it looks like the background is complete, it doesn't just end.

Eh, another smudge banner using heaps of filters, text is meh, rate away!

Postman August 3rd, 2008 1:39 AM

I like it. I actually like your text, its better then I could ever do.
The things I keep staring at is the big black spot in the top left, and the smudge on the shoulders.

Good job for your first smudge sig. I think you could work on the text a bit, maybe make it stand out more. It just kind of blends in with the background, and is awkward to look at. I like how it flows, though.
Also, it is lacking a little something...'extra'. Try butting some brushes, or a c4d in there to make it more interesting. Splatter looks good.

~

Well, here's two newer ones. I think I'm improving.. although they could use some more depth.

#1: great effects. But i would like two see to things done to this piece. One add a different color than pink just to spice things up a bit xD

two make it less grainy looking. clean it up a bit. kai thanks.

#2: Same with this one. The effects are great, but it is all a dull green. Plus it is grainie..... fix that and I think it would be all that much better!

ぱにぽに: First of all, great picture. If I remember correctly you took it you're self, well it is great. What I love most about this is the simplicity of it. And of course you thinking out side of the box and creating something for the instrument SOTW that wasn't expected. Because of that I really don't think you need any effects, but the border and text.

So in my opinion you did a great job! Good idea, and keep it up!

SwampertTrainer:The outer glow on the text lucario is good, but the silverish c4d doesnt really match. The size is way too big, and its a little too hard to see the render.

Because everyone's doing a sprite sig.

Love this banner! The background gives off a nice metallic look and suits the sprite wonderfully!
The white shard things give a great effect of what seems to be movement and looks great around the render...

Eh tried something new and I think it looks okai...

Comic Tragedy August 8th, 2008 7:55 AM

Kuggles: I really love the smudging in this signature. (atleast I hope that is some smudging otherwise less impressed ;P) Really I think you should carry more off that smudging throughout the entire sig, instead of brushing flowers and stuff....... I mean whatever you like, but I am partial to using brushes really but that is just me.

I think a signature really looks better when you use brushes only for blending layers, lighting, and some effects you can only achieve with a brush (some splatters lightining bolts - or maybe make a clipping mask). Other wise when you make a shape you should learn how to make it custom with the pen tool. But you don't have to rush that process.
