Reputation!
Well from what i've heard, PC had reputation enabled "years ago". And appantly was abused? Well i feel like they should bring it back.
A appeal worked with infractions, but i don't find it fair when your punished for being "bad" But if your good you dont get a reward, I would just like to say... And reputation rules anyways because it can tell if your a nice person and your dedicated to the forum, and so what and such forth xP Post your views. |
Unless there were some way to iron out the kinks in the current rep system, or be certain that members wouldn't just go back to abusing them again, then it's highly unlikely that it'll be turned back on. There were just too many complaints about it, too much bias when giving out points ("niceness" and dedication often weren't the reasons for giving out points, popularity was), and way too many people begging for points for whatever reason.
It was just too much of a problem to be able to keep it on. |

I really miss rep, but obviously since people abused it so much there is no way it could continue being a part of the community. |

Dude, reputations would suck here. There would be threads on what they are from the noobs and losers and there would be commotion on the numbers. Just think. Everyone would be like "OMG NO ONE LIKES ME HE HAS MORE REP POINTS IMMA KILL MYSELF YOU JERKS!" It wouldn't work at all. People would use them to suck up to the staff thinking that they'd get promoted. Ha, they'd be rating them great saying "AND I WANNA BE LIKE YOU" and then they'll try getting modded. It would be awful.
|
What if, just like how you would report posts, moderators and higher could see if you increased/decreased someone's reputation, and they have to approve of it. In order for them to approve of it, proof must be given why you are increasing/decreasing their reputation. Members of at least 100 post count can only give +/- rep. A lot of members get their posts to 50 easy in a week. If at 100 I think it would be fair.
People can get reputation for good trades, creating graphics for others, even just helping others, but, it must be approved before the reputation points are given. Is there any way to do so? EDIT: And perhaps even a new type of staff could be introduced. A staff that does not moderate, but just helps with the approval of reputation points. If possible... |

I personally thought that it would be a great way to get rid of MotM - just have everyone give the people they liked reps and at the end of each month the person with the most rep would win a prize.

heyy :D
diz was my idea... but :( i didnt see dis and i made a fool ov mahself xD here it is: My Idea: The 'Reputation Meter' will be on a scale of 1 - 10 (shown as a bar w/numbers) As default, All New Members have a reputation of 5. Warnings decrease reputation by 1 per warning. Ways to get reputation are: - Have fifteen >DIFFERENT< people 'vouch-merit' for a rep-up for you <members must have a minimum post count of 50(or some system, that ensures that people dont make new accounts to get high ratings, or give someone else low ratings) to 'vouch-merit', or 'vouch-demerit'>. (increases by 1) - Have very High post counts. - Be helpful in the Pokemon community. - Super Mods + can also increase your rep, if they think you deserve so. Ways to lose reputation are: - Have five people 'vouch-demerit' (decreases by one) - Abuse/Flame other players - Get warnings - Super Mod + can decrease your rep, if they think you deserve so. (Maybe there could be other ways to gain or lose rep, i dunno, lets get some ideas working :D) In order to Vouch-merit, or Vouch-Demerit, there is a + and a - sign under the person's Reputation Meter, you can click on which ever one you think they deserve. (merit, or demerit) The Reputation Meter will be directly under the Custom user title. Any Member who abuses the Reputation system will be given a warning, or something similar to it. These are just what i thought up of at a glance. ~Gοяκнaвоii NekroBoi |
We have the infractions system so I don't think rep is required. Plus I heard that some people went rep crazy and asked for it when they didnt deserve it.

ETA: That is to say, infractions are a way of auto-banning rule-breakers; reputation is, in theory, a method of showing whose contributions are appreciated or vice versa. However, because of the abuse -- because people did ask for rep and give it out incorrectly --, it's gone. |

And, any members caught asking for rep, or giving it out that easily, will be given warnings. And, we can set the limit to one, or two Rep +, or - a day =] (like, you can only press the rep up, or rep minus twice a day; and you can only gain a max of 2 rep a day, but you can lose all of it at once. ofcourse, it will be looked into, if a very old and reliable member has lost all their rep at once, or a newbie gets like, full rep in 2 days) |

The actions of a small minority is why the majority can't have nice things. |
I belive that if we ever did bring back reputation system that you should only be able to give rep if you have 1000 posts.
Yep, you heard right. One thousand posts. Also comments on reputation could be disabled as this was heavily abused to flame people. Finally there should be a limit as to how many rep points can be given/taken per day. Like 1 rep adjustment for any one member (excluding staff) per day. Also the rep adjustment shouldnt be weighted by how much rep you have. It should be a flat rate of 1 point +/-. Finally begging for rep could be a heavily infractible offense. If the idea of all members being able to adjust reputation is too unsettling then we can create a usergroup of people who are chosen by the staff. These people would have to be active members who have not been infracted within x days/weeks/months and must have more than x amount of posts. If we only grant the ability to adjust rep to mature members of the forum then it might encourage good behavior from new members. Also these people who are allowed to adjust rep could be a secret force. Meaning that they arent allowed to tell anyone they can adjust reputation. This could help prevent begging for rep. I think we should give it one more chance. Even if only a select few end up with the power to adjust reputation |

ETA: Also, as Matt said in the chat, it's not that hard to get 1000 posts. I think the idea of reputation is the way the community perceives the user as a whole, even though that idea is flawed. Otherwise it more becomes like giving someone a cookie jar in Kindergarten and saying they can control the class for five minutes while the teacher goes to get something. As Audy said, we already have a capable staff. And let me be blunt. We have very few mature users on PC. |
Postcount is the last thing to be considered as a scale/limit to who's cultured enough to give reputation.
|
Could this by any chance be similar to the Karma system? Basically, one user rates another one's karma by giving him/her a thumbs up or down.
|
I signed here on May 2007, and started posting on september, so I don't know what this reputation thing is exactly, but what I have heard so far I consider that it would be hard to control it.
If we all got the ability to rate, and of course, rise or reduce another member reputation, it would be abused. Really. If only some people (in this case, a usergroup) could rate, it would be unfair. If Staff were in charge of it they wouldn't be able to rate 8000+ members daily. So even if we all want it to be back, in some way we are better without it. And besides, a "Reputation system" is just a random number on your post, and not really who you are. You make your reputation by being a "Good" member, not for havng a higer number on a counter =] |
Quote:
As for Souless, it's not really a random number, but it is an unnecessary and inaccurate measure, yes. |
Well, by random I meant that it's unnecessary.
I have seen a "Money" system on other forums, you get more by posting or if other members "Donate" points for you. I think that they could use this as a reputation system, changing money points to reputation points, this way you could only give reputation points if you have them, and you would think twice before giving them away. Obviously, only Staff would be able to take points from you, that would stop people abusing from the system to take points from people they don't like. |
Hm..Now that is a much better idea. Money could be used as a measure of rep. You can only give what you have and that can be limited. With the flow of new members there would always be money in the system. Of course people could lose their money if they get caught abusing it. Or if they get caught begging for it.
|
I've seen them, but taking away negative reputation really defeats the purpose of reputation. I personally dislike the points systems, but...

The first time i went on pokecommunity was in 2004,when i registered. I didn't have a clue what this reputation thingy was (i gradually found out) , and i always got these annoying pms saying, "give me some reputation please nobody likes me", and "ill give you reputation if you give me some". But if people really want it back, why not bring it back, if people abuse it they can't use it, seing as we have a report button for post's why not have one for the rep system that way, if people are abusing the system, people can report them. I mean its just an Idea. i don't really want it back anyway, too much hassle for more trouble. EDIT:i just relised that this wouldn't work, to my amazement it seemed so wonderful when i wrote it :), but then i re-read it :( , but i think a one-way system would be good, or how about that and staff would have to approve it? that way it wouldn't be abused, but then again, staff don't want to be flooded with that kind of crud. |
