A question about shiny starters

Hi all I got a question about shiny starters lets say i start a new game and want to get a shiny chimchar if the chimchar isnt shiny as soon as i see it in the battle with the starly attacking you do i need to start a new game or just save before the starly fight and reset and repeat reseting till it will be shiny?

Another question i got is what natures are good for chimchar?

Devil_Silver January 15th, 2008 11:19 AM

The best thing would be to start a new game, I think, but there's a small chance you'll get a shinie (1 out of 8000).

If you succeed in getting a shiny pokémon as your starter, you've probably been chosen by Arceus.
The chance of getting one is so small, that you'd be better off trading one instead of restarting your game over and over again until your thumb gets broken^^

can you please answer my questions instead of saying that my chances are low? cause i know that and thats my problem now if anyone can answer my question ill be glad if the starter aint shiny just reload the game from where i saved it before picking up the starter or start a new game all over and second what are good natures for a chimchar

Kittyipawd January 15th, 2008 11:35 AM

depends on what you want your chimchar to be but it doesnt matter seeing as you should try to EVtrain your original starter .

shayminfan January 15th, 2008 11:40 AM

I want him to be mainly a special attacker and can you maybe answer my first question? its important

LordxDanswich January 15th, 2008 12:05 PM

It is quicker overall to just save before you go into the lake and soft resetting if it's not shiny as opposed to starting a new game every time it's not shiny, hope that helped ;)

shayminfan January 15th, 2008 12:17 PM

yea thats great thanks alot just one last thing is soft reseting means pressong a+b+start+select all together or is it diffrent buttons?

Twar3Draconis January 15th, 2008 1:16 PM

On the DS it's L+R+Start+Select

if you are looking to make chimchar mainly a special attacker, you could go with modest, but only if you dont plan on using many physical moves (modest reduces attack too): here's the three that would be best if you are looking for him to be special attack

Modest:
raises-Sp. Attack
lowers-attack

Mild
raises-Sp. attack
lowers-defense

Rash
raises-Sp. Attack
lowers-Sp. Defense

But if you are trying to get both Shiny AND the right nature, don't even try. you will waste countless, endless hours with no result.

Yes, just save before the fight and keep reseting it if chim isn't shiny in the battle. Try like 5000 resets and if nothing pops up, do a new game since the trainer IDs have some effect on shiny rate. If you see a shiny Starly, that'll suck but it sometimes means you have a shiny happy game so keep the ID longer. :D

If you wanted a shiny chim with a good nature, you'll have to breed.. Good luck either way.

if that's true, then I MUST get a Daimond Game!

if you simply want shiny then SR, but if you want shiny AND a good nature, you'lll have to be VERY Patient, or breed.

yes save just before the battle and soft reset L R select and start i think just keep doing it i got my chimchar after about 200 tries my cousin got one after about 500 so just keep trying you will do it with 2 or 3 days
