How do you play up through the Pokemon League?
Well, I was wondering. How do you play through the games? After you get your starter, what do you do? Do just train your starter and try to wipe out the gyms, or do you try to train a balanced team of six, or maybe just a group of three pokemon? Do you participate in contests on the way to the league, or do you wait until after to compete in contests?
Me, I enjoy mixing things up. I always train more than just my starter. Most of the time, I train a balanced team of six. After I got into Diamond, I got a Pearl, where I trained a team of unusual pokemon. I had a Yanmega (hatched from an egg from Diamond) Mismagius (nicknamed Mage) a Staraptor, and a Roserade. I usually wait for contests until after the League. |
Well... I normally get my starter.. Train it to level 10.. Catch a Shinx.. And train it up :). Then balance out ym team so i dont have like a level 60 andd 5 level 20 odds xP

well my pokemon sucked when i beat the leauge i was sooo weak.my team was
starraptor lv 45 palkia lv 53 infermape lv49 two lake pokemon lv50 and a rosearade lv 40 |
I try making a balance of 6 Pokemon for beating the game. I used to play the game with only my starter and a bunch of HM slaves back in Blue version but I stopped doing that because it gets boring using the same old Pokemon for every battle.
|
typical order of Pokemon:
keep Starter the whole game, and keep the bird from early on for most of the game. catch the rat as an HM slave, and if that doesn't work, I'll catch a secend one. for about until the first gym, I'll use the bug/s Play through the game with the Starter and the bird most of the time, an various other Pokemon to help beat other gyms. I only beat the Pearl E-4... I used mainly my Infernape and a Roselia. and Uxie was for healing |
I use basic Pokémon (Staraptor, Graveler, Roserade, Luxray, Alakazam, Empoleon) and just fight every trainer in the game. I don't need to train them much because the CPU players lack intelligence anyway. And for everything else, I wait until I beat the game (that includes the League and the Battle Island).

I always have a pack of 6 =)
i tried completing it with one or three, never suceeded =( |
What I do I just train a balanced team of six (which I am doing in emerald version) then i go to victory road and fight from there before i go through victory road i get a lot of hyper potions and when i get to the elite four buy some more revives hyper potions etc... Then in the elite four i heal between battles and before the champion room i heal. Then beat the champion.

I make RPG character out of my games 8D So i try not to catch too much Pokemons i dont need, and i choose some "special" Pokemon, keep them, and train them so their level isn't too diffrent ..
But well, thats is more my way of choose my teams Pokemon .. Isn't it .. ? xD Until now i've always keep my starter, but i think that is about to change .. I'm a little tired of the starters now .. (I dont hate them, i just need to train something else) owo Or something XD - Nicku |
well, me and my brother start one of our ames over and over agian so we both have all the starters. Then I catch an electic pokemon in pearl shinx, and then a flying type, starly, and I dont use any others unil after the elite four. Then, i train my fire starter to be a beaty contest pokemon and the others as battlers for Wifi and battle tower.

I searched for what I want to keep in Pokedexes, then start training. Usually I overtrain at the beginning, then begin to get lazy near the end. I defeated Gardenia with a lv 28 Prinplup and also lv 28 Vespiquen. When I was at the league, all my Pokemons were around 52.. :p
|
I use Pokemon of mixed types which are easily obtainable around the start of the game and just train them all up evenly. But I made sure my starter was female so I could do breeding without having to go find a Ditto later on. And then I just beat the E4 with a pretty even team of around Level 50s.

I prefer a balanced team
so that if one strong pokemon faints you don't automatically lose |
Ive made a terrible habit of training up 1 pokemon so hard that i have to depend on it for everything and i feel ive wasted my time because i have to train all my other 5 to the same level. Funny enough it usually isnt the starter pokemon. like in my pearl game my Stari (staraptor) is my best pokemon and my starter pokemon Piplup -> Empoleon is much much younger...its crazy but i wouldnt change it....My stari is the mummy of the group lol
try covering the whole of the area and you wont really have to come back for anything I used my staraptor, empoleon, luxray, golem, palkia, and rapidash, for the pokemon league which i didnt really use, staraptor pretty much did everything...lol they were roughly levels 60-80 |
I get myself a Feebas/Milotic from the GTS and own the entire game with Milotic, since it levels up REALLY fast (600,000 XP for level 100)
|
I beat the game with the crappiest team ever, and really crappy movesets. I just zip through the game, beat the E4, and the rebuild a whole new team AFTER the game... when you get the National Dex. :)
I beat the E4 with these Pokemon Skuntank - L. 48 Floatzel - L. 50 Torterra - L. 50 Staraptor - L. 66 Gengar - L. 66 Luxray - L. 50 That's how pathetic the E4 and Cynthia are. The Staraptor and the Gengar didn't even show up much in battle. I used the Skuntank the most. No lie. :) |
My starter will always be the 'best' of my team, but I let the rest of the team keep up pretty evenly, save for one...
My HM Poke will usually be whatever level it was when I caught it. |
My starter actually ends up being the lowest leveled of my team (except for Swampert, who just plain rocks ~.o). I end up tearing up every battle with a really crappy-leveled Pokémon with horrible stats (which shows you how good the AI of all the in-game trainers are >.o)

I dont really think about it that much because by the time im done doing everything in the whole game my Original team is gone anyways.well not gone but left in my PC.Usually peoples teams by mid game if they dont grab outside help is mid forms of either piplup or chimchar because turtwig seems like the least popular one out of the three, well atleast to me anyways.Mid form of starly obviously because hes the pidgey of the game.Bidoof or barbell because hes a HM slave.I use another word other then hm slave but this is a kids freindly place so i'll keep it to myself.Kadabra or haunter, because people always seem to feel comfort in those guys.ooops minds wandering off again. * goes off to do more ev training*

Azelf+Uxie+Infernape, all i needed
*Send out uxie, yawn and stealth rock set up. *Send out appropriate sweeper *Switch back to uxie when anything dies *Heal while uxie walls Switch back in, carry on I got through the elite for with that :) |
lol, everytime I reset It's always the same.
Starter Luxray Staraptor / Honchkrow Alakazam / Gengar Gyarados Lopunny / Mismagius ~T_S Quote:

He may have got to the elite four, got to milotic and lost lol
|
Well he said he owned the entire game with milotic. Most people think that they finished the game after they beat the elite four..

In my Pokemon games, my team generally builds slowly. For the first while in Pearl, I had Piplup only. Then, I decided to catch Shinx. It was a while before I got my third Pokemon, Ponyta, and Bronzor came even later. I only recently added my fifth Pokemon, Drifloon. I'm currently going for my fifth badge, and my sixth slot is still wide open.
Well, not exactly wide open - one of my HM slaves is currently occupying that spot (I have 3 HM slaves). When I need a certain HM-user, I have to go to the PC and swap out, since I carry all five members of my main team at all times. If I ever get to a point where I need more than one HM slave at a time, I'll probably just go to the PC and temporarily deposit either my highest-leveled Pokemon (i.e. the one who needs experience the least) or the Pokemon whose type would be least useful at that point in the game. Whenever I catch a new Pokemon for my team, the first thing I do is go to some place where you can find wild Pokemon, and start training it up. When its level starts getting close to the levels of the rest of my team, I start using it to take on AI trainers. I also try and keep my team balanced. I'm thinking of putting a Grass type, such as Roserade, in my sixth slot. In one game, I raised a team of all fire Pokemon... biiiig mistake. My current team is: Azuria (Empoleon) - Level 36 Raye (Luxray) - Level 38 Fiora (Ponyta) - Level 35 Iore (Bronzong) - Level 35 Ciela (Drifblim) - Level 31 <insert random HM slave here> One thing I don't usually do, but did in Pearl, was nickname every single Pokemon on my team, including my starter. In most games, I either leave everyone's name alone, or give one or two party members a nickname. Another thing that always seems to happen, unintentionally, is that my team's gender ratio begins to lean heavily to the female side. Though I always try to balance out the males and females, by the time by team has six members, there are always more females than males. I really don't know why it happens, but it happened to me in Red (three females, two males, one genderless), Crystal (four females, no males, two genderless), Fire Red (four females, one male, one genderless) and Emerald (five females, one male). The same thing seems to be happening in Pearl - even if my sixth Pokemon is male, there are still going to be more females overall, since I currently have three females and one genderless Pokemon. The only exception to this is my Gold version team, which is 100% male except for my starter. As for the Contests and all that optional stuff, I usually leave most of that stuff for after the Elite Four. |
