EV Checker

How do you check a Pokemon's EV's, and what are they? Please someone help me out!

Also. what are IV's and how do you check them?

One more thing, how do you soft reset?

In a nutshell:

A. EVs (or Effort Values) are "points" that your Pokemon gets in a specific stat for participating in a battle with another Pokemon. Each Pokemon gives off a set number for battling it, and getting 4 of these points will raise that stat by an extra point. While there is no way to determine the EXACT number once they're in, you can estimate by counting backwards with certain berries that lower your EVs by 10.

B. IVs (or Individual Values) is a set number between 0 and 31 that is assigned to a Pokemon's stat at birth/encounter. The higher the number, the higher that stat can go. There are IV Calculators online you can use to figure these out. There are also FAQs in the Strategies/Movesets forum that give further detail for both IVs and EVs.

C. Press L, R, Select, & Start all at once to soft reset.

Thanks, but what does a person mean when the say an EV'd Pokemon. From this, an EV'd Pokemon would only come once. After you level it up, its not EV'd anymore. I'm sort of confused.

The way I sort of exemplify EV's is like this (I am by no means a competitive Battler or anything)

Say you have a Pokemon at level 5 (Let's say a Piplup?) who is fresh caught/hatched, whatever, and you want to train it.

Say you want to train it's EV's in Speed (50 EV's speed maybe?) You would battle Pokemon that give EV points to your Piplup in speed. That is, when you defeat them they contribute EV points to your Pokemon.

You can write these down or use the Poketch app that is a counter to count EV's as you earn them, either way it's probably in your best interest to keep track of them.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's how it works, IV's are the mystery to me, but I'm getting better at understanding them.

Hope this Helps,

Sam

That means they have a Pokemon that underwent EV training (I.E., giving the Pokemon a bunch of EVs to obtain ideal stats). See, those bonus points from EVs actually stay for the rest of the Pokemon's existence (unless you remove the EVs with one of those berries), which is why people use it so much in competitive battling. The thing is, though, you can only give each stat a maximum of 255 EVs and each Pokemon a maximum of 510, so there is a limit.

You really should check out the FAQs we have right here in the PokeCommunity's Strategies & Movesets forum.

Yeah, that's right. However, you want to stay with a number that is divisible by 4, since it takes 4 EVs to get an extra stat point and the remainder is ignored.

Ahh excellent, as I'm starting to build some more teams, that is good to know.

Sorry to get off topic =X.

The definition given a few posts above is very accurate, actually.
