chaining chat

hey im really getting into the groove with chaining now... but still need help lol
still have only one chained shiny, which was luck after 22 mareep...
i am really unlucky, i keep going for chains of 40 and they break after 37 (lotad) 38 (mareep) and 39 (phanpy)

so ive decided to stop chains at 20

only thing i need to know is if YOU chain to 20, how long does it take you to find a shiny?

cos ive got a chain of 20 slakoth lol

thanks fellas and lasses

Shadowz February 13th, 2008 3:34 AM

It depends on your luck. i got a shiny Larvitar on a chain of 9, you just have to keep trying.

Chaining is very frustrating, I can only reach a chain of about 7 to 8 bidoof or machop or budew

Chaining is so annoying but I got super lucky when I did my first chain of Gligar's. On my second Gligar it was a shiny

I chained some shiny bagons (about 10) and gave most of them away for egg move, good natured, male, untouched pokemon. When I announced I was giving them away, people pmed me like crazy. They were mainly sp.atk and speed natures. I am gonna try to chain them again to get an attack-natured one, then larvitars.

rocklee666 February 19th, 2008 11:31 AM

this is rocklee's cousin...how do you chain? yes it is kinda stupid question....

The first pokemon i caught by chaining was a chatot with a chain of 64!!! my highest chain. but ever since then, ive caught 19 shinies by pokeradar, the lowest at 11 (i think). the 2 highest chains i broke were a chain of 40 bidoof when the pokeradar said "the grass patch remained quiet." and 40 zigzagoon when i ran out of max repels.

If you have a pokemon with Synchronize in the front of your team, there is a high chance of the wild pokemon having the same nature as the synchronize pokemon. Tested this by catchin 50 starlies.. 40 had the same nature as mine :/

Always go to 40, otherwise it takes far too long to get a shiny, I once got a shiny stunky from a chain of 7, it was fun. Using the four steps method almost always works for me.

well im so unlucky i havent got a shiny yet my biggest chain is 30 i would do starleys but arent swarm pokemon ezier to chain then any random pokemon

True Justice February 19th, 2008 3:56 PM

i think swarm pokemon are easier to chain. according to serebii, swarm pokemon have an encounter rate of 40%. im not sure if this applies to chaining but id say chances are yes. alot of my pokeradar shinies are swarm pokemon.

FourFourTwo February 19th, 2008 4:01 PM

My swarm today was Phanpy and I just got 3 shinys.. 2 adamants, 1 naive

Unlucky? I got a chain in the 100s of Surskit and I never got a shiny one. That chain took more than 4 hours. There were probably loads of shiny patches which I missed; I blame my terrible eyes. No-one is that unlucky, not even me... I must have kept missing them. Then I found out you should stop at 40 >.<

I tried chaining Pidgey for 18 collective hours. Started at 4am, finished at midnight when the swarm was over. I was so determined to get a shiny one that I chained until the swarm was over. (You don't know how insanely adamant I can get; the longer I can't do something for, the more determined I become to do it. I can't help it... I never give up.)

I tried chaining Shinx for 15 collective hours. I ended up going to bed in a very bad mood.

I chained Geodude for 12 collective hours. I got 8 shinies =D I only saw the shiny patches because I happened to be looking at that exact spot at the moment they appeared. My peripheral vision is well umm... let's just say chaining is NOT the best idea for someone with eyes like mine. Geodude in route 207 is the easiest Pokemon to chain because it's something like 55% encounter rate. Not only that, it's a nice easy patch of grass to chain in, and because the ground is so dark, the shiny patches are easy to see too.

At that point I promised myself never to chain ever again.

umbros February 20th, 2008 2:44 PM

Wow... I feel really stupid. How do you chain? I'm not even sure what this is. My best guess after reading these posts is that you just use the pokeradar and hope to run into the same pokemon repeatedly? And apparently this helps get shinies more easily?

TwilightBlade February 20th, 2008 3:05 PM

There is already a nice thread about chaining here and any questions or chatting can go there. I believe there's also a chaining guide in the FAQ and at a number of 20, your odds are still very low. You have to be at 40 or anything higher to get a 1/200 chance of finding a shiny.
