New Map Alert

Had to alter it slightly from it's original state so it could connect properly with Nero Town. I like it though. Simple, but grass-filled forest.

Good sprites take time (plus the person making it's wrist is in a cast at the moment). It'll be a Narwhal of some sort. It'll be revealed when it's ready.

Ah, yes... The magic of simplicity is very attractive to the eyes of true (not me) artists. :)
The map (Hermit Forest) is excellently done! I can see through it that mapping's your main talent in hacking.

Apparently you are very gifted in mapping blueberry.
But is there going to be an item near the rocks because there is no other way to the other side without going around the trees.
So i forgot whats the story going to be in Hermit forest?

That's where you and the boy run off to hide from the Pirates. The forest use to be a ton of solid trees, but the hermit cleared multiple paths and opened the forest to the others. The lake is said to be home to living lily pads.

Are there going to be custom tiles of those if you make them because lily pads seem peaceful in a lake.

Yeah the story is basically you trying to train so you're strong enough to take on the Pirate Lord and Pirate King (Elite Four and Champion). And you have multiple run-ins with them while training with eight wise people (Gym Leaders). This story was originally a fan fiction I wrote a long time ago.

So yeah. I have to start over unless I can find a way to fix the ROM. No matter what back up I use, the ROM keeps corrupting and I lose all scripts / can't use it on VBA. ;_;

Very clever and cool twist, now I'm really looking forward to see the progress on this hack.
Btw, the map has to few grasstiles we "have" to walk over. (my opinion). It's a pretty good map though.

Right now I'm trying to create some sprites, using the help from the sites MisterSmeargle gave me :D
Just by following their steps I've created this lil' fella:

Didn't you save the maps as .map files in A-Map? If you do that, you can just save the maps in a folder and pull 'em out whenever you need them.

Yeah, I did. wingzro17 inserted my two other maps, but I had already redone Nero Town. I like the new format better, so that one stayed. However, he signed off before sending me the ROM, so I can't take new screenshots until he's online again.

Name: Lana
Age: 18-20
Pokemon Specialty: Rock-, Grass- and Ground-Types
Story:

When Lana was a baby, her parents abandoned her under unusual circumstances in the wilderness of Hoenn. Crying and alone, it seemed her fate was sealed. However, a pack of Mightyena and Poochyena chanced upon her. Feeling pity for the crying human, they grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and took her with them. They raised her, and soon Lana learned the way of the pack. She learned how to hunt, what food one was capable of eating, how to fight, and formed a deep connection with nature. When she was around the age of twelve, a group of humans found her running with the pack. They quickly seized her and brought her back to their home. Intensely angry and betrayed, she acted out repeatedly. However, as the humans took care of her, she slowly calmed down. They began to teach her English and attempted to instill some form of humanity into this wild girl. However, it was difficult to fully suppress her animalistic urges. Then when was around sixteen years old, she flew into a rage and attacked several humans, severely injuring them. Instead of staying with the humans, she quickly fled into the woods and ran as far away as possible.

Eventually she was discovered by Sevaunt, a cunning, charming Pirate. He sensed a great strength in Lana (the name given to her by the humans) and asked for her to come with him. Entranced by his aura, the tamed Lana followed him to his ship. There was she met by three others with an insanely attractive personalities. She was told she held a great power and could possibly become one of the most powerful pirates on the seas. Lana had heard stories from her adopted "family" about pirates and had always wished to have that sort of freedom again. With her three Pokemon, she began to train. However, amongst the five Pirate Lords, she is the weakest on the seas. However, when on solid ground, she is the strongest and most formidable. Using her team of Grass-, Ground-, and Rock-Pokemon, she is a force to be reckoned with.

A more detailed profile will be released at a later date.

I have to say that this game is impressing me more each day. There aren't many games with such a plot around.

The starting town map really left me amazed. The forest looks simple, but good at the same time. There are some problems with the hsadows of the trees, though. But, overall, I'm really impressed.
If you couls show us some scripts, it would be wonderful.

My Photobucket images went "Boom!" so I have to upload new screenshots with the new map once wingzro17 sends me the ROM with all of the scripts reinserted. Working on a more detailed summary of main characters and a slightly more detailed story while I pass the time until I can map again.

Posted the new screenshots and maps. The left corner of the forest is blocked off for now due to glitches which wingzro and I are attempting to iron out. The Scyther is the rarest Pokemon in the forest.

Just saw the new maps. There are a few mapping glitches (such as in the PC's roof), but they look really good. You are a pretty nice mapper.
I'll keep an eye for updates here.

Almost finished with enough stuff to release a Pre-Beta 0.1 or whatever it's called. Just enough so you can explore the starting island and get a feel of it. It will help wingzro and I find glitches we're missing as well.

Here it is everyone. It's a preview of Pokemon Piratite. Here's a list of known glitches:
  • Don't open the menu near where you get Clamperl. You'll turn into the PokeBall
  • Mountains may reflect
  • The girl is up on the hill. Christos will be removing her.
  • Strange pixels above trainer's head
  • Some music may be off
  • The one Bug Catcher's name is off.
  • Currently trying to figure out how to edit Pokemon and their attacks for trainers.

Please report anything else you see. It's not much but it's more than I imagined ever getting done.

The Pokemon in the forest are a little off. Not what I intended to be in there. So don't be surprised by some of the Pokemon.

Bugs/Glitches/Oddities
- There is a girl in the mountain by the lake.
- Bug Catcher Rick's name appears like this: Bug Catcher Rick would like to battle!
- The Signpost in Hermit Forest(right by the flowers) has nothing on it.
- The other Signpost in Hermit Forest has nothing on it >.<
- There is a flower tile right next to the water in Hermit Forest that I can see my reflection in O.o
- Wait...make that ALL the flower tiles in Hermit Forest next to the water show my reflection(I think It's a little Behavior Byte mishap)
Over all, It looks like you tried your best to make this Bug-free! I like it, Good Job;)

She was originally placed there as a test of a script, but then wingzro couldn't move her. However, Christos will eventually edit her out of there when he gets the chance.

How often do non-Ice type Pokemon learn Ice-type attacks naturally? Rarely. I'm sticking with what the Pokemon would learn naturally and what makes sense.

Narqueim looks incredible. Not only the moveset and base stats, but the image as well. Heck, if I didn't know better I would have thought it was actually a real pokemon. Your friend could have him/herself quite a decent job.

Also, you mentioned that Clamperl's previous evolutions, like Narquiem (with the Scion Pearl?), evolve by item. Will these items be attainable halfway through the game, or earlier on? For some reason, I had an odd idea that you could choose between three key items at the beginning and a decent way through the game, you'd get an evolutionary item that corresponds to the key item you chose. Then again, since you only have one starter (and I'm guessing no rival?), there wouldn't really be a need for that I guess.

Having a rival wouldn't really fit into the story of the game. You're too busy ensuring the boy's safety, training with some rather rude/tough/powerful people, and dealing with your dark past. Clamperl will evolve into Gorebyss using the energy exuded from the Atlantian Pearl and into Huntail using the energy from the Barbary Pearl. They'll be obtainable on the second island where you receive training. So pretty early on. Expect some other new Pokemon to be revealed eventually.

ya having rivals now seem a pretty cliche stuff to put into a hack (refreshing hacks should have more innovative ideas than the usual stuff in the game like rivals and e4). From what i have seen, this hack deviates from the norm so is refreshing. If pokemon are gonna get replaced, could u replace those that are obscure or won't-be-missed kinds (eg.kabuto?) This way, people won't start complaining.

Well, I really have no need for any of the starters or the legendaries. They play no central role in my hack, so I'll probably replace them. And hey, the fossils are going to play a key part on one of the islands. So I can't be getting rid of them (and I care about them ;_;).

looks like a cool pokemon keyrin. a couple of questions, where'd you get the idea for pirates blueberry? that's a unique idea. and besides, isn't clampearl a water-type? i also like the fact that u made the starter town into a large city. are you thinking of making the other islands basically the gyms and the pirates like the elite 4? just asking
