Poke' Newbie Questions:

Hey there,
I'm interested in getting Pokemon Pearl, but I have a few questins first. Keep this in mind, the latest game I own is the Ruby Version and I do NOT have DS yet.

1.) Can I transfer (trade) pokemon or items from Ruby or Saphire to Pearl?

2.) Can all pokemon (#1 Bulbasaur to whatever the newest one is) be played on Pearl? Or is there only a certain number available? (or can I gameshark any?)

3.) Is Pearl worth getting? I mean, my brother just found his old Ruby version and gave it to me last week and I'm not very far. Should I drop this game and pick up the newest?

I think that's all I really need to know right now. I'm a newnie and this is my 1st post. So, if I broke any rules already or repeated a question that has already been posted. I'm sorry.

1) yes. Once you get the Nationaldex you can go to PalPark and Transfer up to six Pokemon a day from your Advanced games. Keep in mind, the trip is one-way. So once they're on D/P they stay there.

2) Eventually, ALL Pokemon can be caught. Exept for old starters and legends. Thankfully Wi-Fi makes this easy to solve! And since you can get Pokemon from GBA Games, this is even better.

3) If you want your ass kicked every fives minutes on Wi-Fi, then yes.
Yes, You should get it. it has amazing Graphics, Wi-Fi Compatabilies, compatibility with GBA Games, Time-and-Day, New Pokemon, a New (but lamer) Evil Team, Battle Tower, Super Contests--- THERE ARE TO MANY FEATURES TO LIST!

Yup. Specifically, you can migrate Pokemon from the GBA cart to the DS cart, but you can make the Pokes hold items.

2.) Can all pokemon (#1 Bulbasaur to whatever the newest one is) be played on Pearl? Or is there only a certain number available? (or can I gameshark any?)
Since you can migrate Pokemon, you can get them all. On a side note, there are 493 Pokes now.

3.) Is Pearl worth getting? I mean, my brother just found his old Ruby version and gave it to me last week and I'm not very far. Should I drop this game and pick up the newest?
Pearl's pretty good, I'd say. It's only really worth it if you get into competitive battling, though.

Mah thoughts in bold, etcetera.

Ok. How long does it take you to get the national dex thing? I mean, do you have access fairly early in the game, middle, or near completion? (I mean in the RPG aspect of the game)

You should be able to get the National Dex soon after the Elite Four, which should take 10-20 hours.

It took me 100 hours. I'm really slow.

I would definentaly get Diamond/Pearl. I was seriously thinking about not getting it...I usually don't like change (or new things) but I got it and I'm addicted! It took me about 30 hours to get the National Dex (I'm slow as well). If you battle every trainer you will get the National Dex (you don't have to catch them all). I would beat Ruby/Sapphire, that way you will be able to use that game to help you complete the National Dex.

im goin on 70 hours and i've yet to get through victory road (or w/e its called on this new gen)

and diamond is definitely worth it (or pearl, haha)

i have yet to play the ruby/sapphire generation games, but i did play fire red and leaf green

this game, i'd say, is the best yet

and yes, competitive battling is a huge part of it and its a lot of fun making teams, especially with so many to choose from

1. - Visit the Pal Park after you beat the elite four and get the National Dex. You can only transfer Pokemon from R/S/E/Fr/Lg, but they can be holding items. However, you cannot trade with R/S/E/Fr/Lg, and you can only transfer a total of 6 Pokemon per day.

2. - Ultimatly, all Pokemon can be played up to this point on D/P. That trend has never changed. However, of course, Certain Legendaries (such as Darkrai) can only LEGITIMATELY be retrieved via a Nintendo Event, or via Wi-Fi connection.

3. Diamond AND Pearl are defiantly worth getting. You'll log more hours on them than any other Pokemon Game just going through the RPG, not to mention the crazy amount of extras after the Elite 4. Most new (or returned) features you may or may not notice are:
~Day/Night feature.
~Touch screen with choices in battle: Fight, Run, etc.
~Poketch touch screen out-of-battle: Has a multitude of different programs including a clock, calculator, memo pad, coin-tosser, berry locater and about 20 more.
~A journal: tells you the last few things you did when you haven't played for a day or more.
~3D-ish environments.
~More 'screens' under Pokemon stats: Key info, Stats, Moves, Contest Moves, Ribbons, Nature, and Condition.
~Further sorted Bag slots: Items, T/HMs, Battle Items, Medicine, Berries, Key, Pokeballs, and mail.
~PokeMarts increase their selections as you progress through the game.
~More Alternate Evolutions (Togekiss, for example.)
~The Pal Park, where you can transfer AND catch Pokemon from R/S/E/Fr/Lg
~Underground: Basically a giant mini-game. I won't go into details, but it is AWESOME, and required to get Spiritomb W/O Trading.
~Wi-Fi capabilities
Of course It'd be ridiculous to get into every new aspect of the game, because there is a LOT more. But I think I listed most of the important stuff.

You can get the National Dex after beating the Elite 4 like the last few games. However, Unlike the last few games, you will have to have SEEN all the Sinnoh Dex Pokemon to get it.
