Loki July 2nd, 2008 3:40 PM

Hey guys, I know I'm gonna be gone for like, two weeks the day after next, but lettersnnumbers brought up a pretty cool suggestion and I wanted to know what you guys think.

http://annecampbell.paul-shepherd.com/worm1.html

An image worm. Basically it's like a gigantic collab, from what I can tell. Whatchu guys think? ;> Do you want me to start one when I get back?

Raimu Bito July 2nd, 2008 3:56 PM

Whoaly shiznet Loki. I'd join that.

Twinx July 2nd, 2008 8:42 PM

That sounds like fun Loki. You should definitely DO IT.
It would be lots of fun for everyone. ^^

Gummy July 2nd, 2008 8:53 PM

I'd like to join something like that but I should probably get better first.

YOOM-TAH July 2nd, 2008 11:23 PM

Currently working on a Piplup vector wallpaper. Should be done soon, just gotta find a way to finish it.

THIRTY-SIX July 2nd, 2008 11:26 PM

Would they be pokémon related?

Pikabloo July 3rd, 2008 1:17 AM

I say yes to the image worm thing. It looks like fun :P

And have each image feature a Pokémon...? o.o;

Renyui! July 3rd, 2008 1:22 AM

Wahh that looks pretty cool. I'll join as soon as I get out of my slump :P

Twinx July 3rd, 2008 4:23 AM

um.. a Pokémon? I know it's a pokemon forum and all.. but eek...

Loki July 3rd, 2008 9:10 AM

Urk. D:

What Twinx said about the pokemon.

I mean, if you guys want it to feature a pokemon, we can but... <_< I dunno, It'd be a better idea to hold a poll for it, since there are so many GFX'ers in PC who don't like using Pokemon in their tags and stuff.

including me

But yeah, I'll set up the image worm stuff when I get back, since it seems to be well recieved. <3

Renyui! July 6th, 2008 5:46 PM

Hai Gaiz.
I might be getting a Laptop at the end of the year, and I was told by a book that Mac's have better Graphics. However I heard something about Loki saying something about Mac's weird Colours.
So what do you suggest? Mac, or PC (not pokecommunity)

moments. July 11th, 2008 10:39 PM

Mac all the way Renyui. Not only are Macs far superior, but if you like, you can install BootCamp and run Windows as well. Macs are probably cheaper and will have less problems in the long run as well. May I suggest the MacBook Pro? 'Tis a beautiful computer both powerful and good looking, it has everything you could possibly need.

Okai so for those wondering who I am and what I'm doing in the Graphics Section, I'm Massimo and I would love to become a Graphics Artist like many of you here. I have never made a banner before and only recently got Photoshop a couple of weeks ago but never used it.
What I am asking from you is to request a banner and I'll see how I do. Just one to start with please, if I do a horrible job, maybe Banner Making isn't my forte. So first post gets to test my baby like Graphic Skills.

Loki July 11th, 2008 10:57 PM

Renyui: I think it depends on your own preference actually. The color res on Macs seem to be different from PC, (and since it's the monitor, I don't think installing the ability to switch to windows would affect your colors, but I don't know that in detail) and judging from a majority of the comments I get on my own graphics, I'd say that most of PC's GFX population uses PC's. I'm not going to give you my opinion on which one you should get though, because I personally despise Mac's with my entire being, therefore, my opinion is a given.

Kuggles: I'd totally request, but I'm kind of not really in the right spot to go looking for a nice image. xD But even if your first go doesn't turn out awesome, you shouldn't decide whether you're not cut out for it or not. xD It's more of a practice-makes-perfect-anyone-can-do-it type thing.

THIRTY-SIX July 11th, 2008 11:03 PM

In display options you can change the colour settings to a different profile, although doing that is pointless as the screen is just slightly brighter allowing you to see more detail. You can also change the colour profile setting on Photoshop itself too.

moments. July 11th, 2008 11:05 PM

Loki thanks for that. I have just stumbled across the Rating Thread and am looking forward to putting some banners up in there as I complete them. Look out for my work. =P

evilcheese July 17th, 2008 9:27 PM

Hello everyone. I know i said i was gonna make a c4d tutorial a month ago. This time I mean it. So I need some example banners. I've already sent some pm's. So if you think you used c4ds in a good way please post it.

Motsuko Live July 19th, 2008 6:16 PM

I'll dig through my backpack, but I don't think I have any. It will be nice to finally see this tutorial, though.

Loki July 19th, 2008 8:41 PM

I suck at c4ds. :|

I think these two are mostly c4d's though, if you want 'em:

http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg69/Xenocrates13/android.png

http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg69/Xenocrates13/Devilmaycry.png

moments. July 19th, 2008 9:30 PM

I think if you are going to pick some with C4D's choose either that top one Loki posted or ask EvilCheese, he does heaps with C4D's...
Sorry I can't supply any..

Pikabloo July 19th, 2008 11:44 PM

... it is evilcheese who's asking for C4D banners xD;

I think you've gotten my best examples for abstract C4Ds already, cheese. Great idea for a tutorial, though ^^;

I was planning on making one earlier on, but, well, I got lazy >.>;

moments. July 19th, 2008 11:47 PM

... I feel like an idiot...
Sorry everyone! I missed the entire start of the problem and tried to fix it without knowledge of what was happening... Life lesson for you...

Renneh July 20th, 2008 3:33 AM

See, the sawcks banner in my signature... C4ds were used in that. I only really use C4ds for smudging them XP haha
I thought I saw alot of C4ds in El Capitano's (sp?) signatures.

Okay, now I'm off to do some requests.

EDIT: darn it =( I was half way through a request that was looking smexy... and I accidentally closed without saving..because photoshop decide to close that instead of the c4d I was looking at.

Loki July 20th, 2008 9:58 AM

okay omigawsh guys. :| I AM IN DESPAAAAAAAAAAAIR. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

I've been making graphics with my monitor brightness at 80, and my contrast at 70. Which means everything is gross and overcontrasted, apparently.

So... questions!:

What brightness/contrast are your monitor's on?

Has every tag I've made since I got back been like, ridiculously bright/contrasted? DD:

Hazuki July 20th, 2008 10:14 AM

I don't usually do brightness/contrast, I usually use curves because it's easier for me I guess. And also, that might be a bit too.... bright... xD

Loki July 20th, 2008 10:17 AM

Hazuki: ... xD No, not on photoshop.

Like, your monitor settings.

Hazuki July 20th, 2008 10:18 AM

Oh that, nope then I have no idea. ;;

Not that I need a tutorial for it, but those are to help others of course.

Gummy July 20th, 2008 10:25 AM

It never occurred to me that the Brightness/Contrast settings for your monitor will effect how you see your graphics.

78 Brightness, 82 Contrast for me.

evilcheese July 20th, 2008 10:49 AM

my contrast on my monitor right now is 50

Loki July 20th, 2008 10:57 AM

It affects it a lot. :|

Which is why I'm really frustrated. xDD

Renyui! July 20th, 2008 3:06 PM

How do you change it? I've got Vista, and i;m not sure.

evilcheese July 20th, 2008 3:14 PM

I changed mine from the monitor not the computer.

And about the tutorial i started it and i'm not doing to good. i'll get advice later after i finish my first draft.

Pikabloo July 20th, 2008 6:16 PM

The settings on my monitor are... 100 contrast, 68 brightness.

O________o;

Ahahahaha, so if anything I've made looks horribly contrasted, not my fault xD;

Gummy July 20th, 2008 6:32 PM

That explains SO much! xD Just kidding, your banners look great Shiranui.

Just if you needed anymore, Cheese :P

I've just been lurking through some graphics forums, and seeing new people getting into graphics is making me feel nostalgic. Some of you probably did start graphics here, but I'm curious anyway: I wanna see your first banners :D I may have inherited Beachy's obsession with the past >.>;

I'll post mine soon enough xD;

Loki July 22nd, 2008 9:15 PM

Wow, the irony. o_o

I was just making a compilation of all my banners on a different forum. How convenient! /doesn't have to go very far to find it.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the first banner I ever made on photoshop. To be honest, it wasn’t really even able to be counted as mine anyway; I just did a very terrible render job and stuck it on a wallpaper I found.
This one, however, is what I have long considered to be my ‘first banner’. Featuring Roronoa Zoro from One Piece, art by [email protected] I apologize to zoro-san right now, because I used his art without permission, and because he’s a swell guy who didn’t deserve to have his stuff ripped by the n00b I was
^ Whoo-hoo for a plethora of GFX taboos that nearly always look like crap; Dashed borders, embossed text... ugh. xD;;

Twinx July 27th, 2008 6:52 AM

I think I've lost my first signatures as I used to upload on imageshack D:
They were awful though.. believe me xD

Anyway, Loki, do you still plan to do the image worm??
lol I haven't forgot..

THIRTY-SIX July 27th, 2008 6:55 AM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/munna170488/271b1a64.gif
I was intro pixel art first but I deleted those stuff.

evilcheese August 4th, 2008 9:11 AM

Ok everyone I'm more than halfway done with the c4d tutorial. But joy my internet is screwed. I'll ask my dad to fix it today so hpefully i can get it done be this week. And when I'm done I'll get a couple of people to proofread it so my grammer doesn't mess up anyone.

Zebra Thunderhead August 23rd, 2008 3:28 PM

I'm bored in Photoshop. Anybody want a tutorial on something?

Renyui! August 23rd, 2008 8:02 PM

EDITED
I'd like a tut on your first sig you did when you got back.

Loki August 23rd, 2008 8:25 PM

Argh, I definitely don't have time to run an image worm. Sorry guys. D:
But if someone else wants to sponsor it, by all means, I support you 100%.

As long as you have coherent english we can all understand and set down proper rules and know what you're doing.

Zebra Thunderhead August 24th, 2008 6:09 AM

Omg, I would LOVE to run an artworm. We did something similiar on KHI but it never got finished. ): Just let me know when to make the thread! <: D

Loki August 24th, 2008 8:56 AM

Really CME?! 8D <-- glittery eyes

You are amazing.

Run it anytime you like; Maybe PM me telling me how you're going to run it, and if it's contained in one thread, I'll sticky it for you. Although, I need to clean up the stickies soon..... :/

Zebra Thunderhead August 24th, 2008 9:04 AM

I can write up a little synopsis for you and send it to you in PM. xD I'll just explain everything in PM, but it won't be til a bit later cause I'm supposed to be reading my summer reading book. o_o; It's a book for math... gross.

Renyui! August 29th, 2008 2:07 AM

Gonna make a tut on my current sig. Everyone else's opinions?

moments. August 29th, 2008 2:32 AM

Yeah make a tut for it! I would love to learn how to do those effects in both of the bottom corners!

Zebra Thunderhead August 29th, 2008 3:23 AM

I have a tut ready to post but someone else needs to post in the tut thread or else it'll get merged and no one will see it. ;o;

Postman August 29th, 2008 3:27 AM

There you go :D

Also I look forward to seeing your tut Renyui

THIRTY-SIX August 29th, 2008 3:28 AM

It wouldn't have merged because you posted 5 days ago. ._.'

Zebra Thunderhead August 29th, 2008 3:28 AM

Whatever! Postman posted so it's up now. xD

moments. August 29th, 2008 8:37 PM

Hey guys!
I seem to be lacking skill sin adding depth to my banners. So I am asking if anyone has any tips or tutorials which can help add some depth to my banners.

Renyui! August 29th, 2008 8:50 PM

Well, to add more Depth, try blurring and sharpening some bits, and dodging and burning some other bits as well.

Zebra Thunderhead August 30th, 2008 3:54 AM

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/5251/depthgk8.png - Depth tutorial from Ray @ KHI.

moments. August 30th, 2008 4:01 AM

But seriously, good job. And I have a Mr. McCarthy at my school, too. D:

Tensa Zangetsu September 14th, 2008 1:54 AM

Sorry to bother you but I just got CS3 i the post today (yay :P) doesn anyone have any tutorials?

Renyui! September 14th, 2008 2:26 AM

Go to the Graphics and Photography Tutorials Thread. You can find some good stuff there.
BTW, I also offer private tutorials, if you wish to see examples, just VM me.

Zebra Thunderhead September 14th, 2008 5:15 AM

As far as tutorials are concerned, CS2 = CS3. Anything for CS2 works for CS3.

And Renyui, my teacher submitted a Student-Teacher portfolio to this magazine and we were selected. We're the only ones that were accepted so far. xD

Twinx September 14th, 2008 6:47 AM

Congrats Katie. You must feel so proud!

Tensa Zangetsu September 14th, 2008 8:07 AM

Well done, CME (can I call you Katie?) I think that's preety good acomplishment:P.

evilcheese September 25th, 2008 5:01 PM

God everyones getting better but me =/

Well I know i haven't been making graphics lately as most of you noticed but as soon as i get photoshop installed i'll begin again. If i'm too lazy i might just end up throwing in the towel. Well hopefully the first one happens.

Comic Tragedy October 11th, 2008 6:02 AM

Meh, don't give up if you enjoy it. Its not all about having the best art, for me its about having fun. I know I will never have the same compostion as munna and Michael Allison, or the effects as Shiranui or CME but I keep doing it.

Its all about the :D s

Zebra Thunderhead October 12th, 2008 8:14 AM

I'm boycotting you guys. .-.

Renyui! November 8th, 2008 2:33 AM

To anyone-
I think we need the Tutorials thread to be a bit more active. Is anyone willing to do a tutorial?
~Vivaa.

Conman November 8th, 2008 6:47 PM

Bah if tutorials didn't take some much effort and time to make I'd have done more T_T

Loki November 8th, 2008 8:02 PM

A tutorial?

I'd love to! :D

Except I don't have time. :|

Pikabloo November 8th, 2008 8:31 PM

I would love to make a tutorial, buuuuut:

1 - I need to make a banner first >>;
2 - What ^ and ^^ said.

Comic Tragedy November 11th, 2008 6:21 PM

I would too.

What ^, ^^, and ^^^ said. :P

But I was planning to do a tutorial on this banner If I was ever to do one at all:
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k284/andytoe/MunnaGift.jpg

Zebra Thunderhead November 11th, 2008 6:25 PM

I've done tutorials. Not my fault you guys don't use them. No sense in making more if they aren't used. >>

Aizuke November 11th, 2008 6:31 PM

I would make tutorials if I knew how...?

Zebra Thunderhead November 11th, 2008 6:35 PM

You basically take a tag you've made (in PSD form, of course) and you throw all the steps onto a really huge canvas. Then you take the PSD and show step by step how you make the tag. Easy.

Rockéttes November 11th, 2008 7:20 PM

I'd make one if I had any tags worth a tutorial. >_> I haven't made anything of value in so long... ;_;

Postman November 11th, 2008 7:32 PM

I was going to make a tutorial out of -this- (45 layers) but I'm not even sure if it's tutorial worthy...

Twinx November 12th, 2008 5:20 AM

I remember doing a crappy PSD tutorial a few months ago.. but I never posted it...

I guess I could try to find it.. I wonder.. where's the best place to upload .psd files?

Rockéttes November 12th, 2008 5:40 AM

Compress it with winRAR (or just zip it) and upload it here. (You need to create an account; it's free and totally worth it.)

Then just direct link to it, and we'll be able to download the .zip. Easy, huh?

Twinx November 12th, 2008 7:18 AM

I didn't think this belongs in the Photoshop Q/A so I will post it here.
I have a banner in Photoshop which is 300x100px in size. But when I upload it to Tinypic, then post it as an image on PokeCommunity, it is squished a little bit and it looks all blurry.
I have tried saving it as both a Jpeg and a PNG file and both get squished.
Help please?

Renyui! November 22nd, 2008 12:15 AM

Try uploading it to Photobucket. Tinypic might actually make things tiny xP

Vkazuic November 22nd, 2008 3:11 AM

Yeah, best to go with Photobucket or ImageShack.

Never tried uploading anything on Tinypic myself. :x Since PB and Imageshack are rather popular.

moments. November 22nd, 2008 3:16 AM

Hmm I just uploaded it to Photobucket and tried posting it again here but it still looks all blurry and a bit small...
It is either something to do with PokeCommunity, or how my computer views it.

Vkazuic November 22nd, 2008 3:18 AM

Hm.. Maybe you should post the image/link and then screenshot what it actually looks like?

THIRTY-SIX November 22nd, 2008 3:22 AM

Screen shot also needs uploading to the internet. .o.'

Try using imageshack.us

Also save for web and save as have slightly different colour and other settings.

Try using save for web.

Also it could be your browser. My firefox makes the colours brighter and gif images are faster than when viewing on safari.

moments. November 22nd, 2008 3:27 AM

Sorry what is 'save for web'?
Is that an option on Imageshack?

THIRTY-SIX November 22nd, 2008 3:29 AM

It is an option in photoshop.

Vkazuic November 22nd, 2008 3:29 AM

I think it's an option in photoshop.. Isn't it? :x

Argh, beaten. XD;

moments. November 22nd, 2008 3:51 AM

Oh ok I will test that out now.
EDIT: Ok I figured out what it is. When I am on PokeCommunity, the default zoom is like one less than normal so everything shrinks including my banner. That was the problem, thanks to you two who helped me out!

Vkazuic November 22nd, 2008 3:12 PM

Not a problem, sometimes that happens to me too because of the roller button on my mouse and holding down ctrl. XD;

Renyui! December 12th, 2008 12:45 AM

Hey all.

I need some pokemon renders. Not like Sugimori or Arkeis, but like the ones Aizuke/Closer uses. Could you link me to it?

~Vivaa

Zebra Thunderhead December 15th, 2008 2:07 PM

Post some of the examples you're talking about, that why we can try and rule out what you're looking for exactly.

Gummy December 15th, 2008 2:21 PM

I'm guessing the one used in this banner. hope you don't mind, Closer

Star★Seeker December 16th, 2008 5:41 PM

Um... hi! Well, I have a problem with my Gimp. It's just that even though I'm a latino, most tuts are in english and I'm actually more comfortable using it in english, so... how do I change it to english? Also, for some reason, I can't seem to make clipping mask, even though I follow all the steps in the tutorial. Any ideas?

Zebra Thunderhead December 16th, 2008 6:07 PM

What are you having trouble translating, GIMP or the tutorials?

Oh, pardon my stupidity. I was just asking if there is some way I could change my Gimp's language to english again

Thomas December 16th, 2008 6:26 PM

I only use GIMP I have to, like if I am on my laptop with only Linux on it. So I try to avoid it at all costs. lol I just am too in love with my Paint Shop Pro X. xD

Zebra Thunderhead December 16th, 2008 6:34 PM

Thanks for your wonderful contribution, Thomas. /o/

To change it to English, these instructions should work:

C:\\Program Files\\GIMP-2.0\\lib\\locale

Delete all the folders that do not start with en_ Then start your gimp and see if the language has changed to English? WARNING you will not be able to change it back to Spanish if you delete all the other folders.

It worked for someone else, hopefully it will work for you.
