Do you like to give nicks to your pokemon? Where to you get brainwaves for nicks?

I love giving nicknames to my Pokemon
I usually get my nicks from WOW.
Curious whether most people like to give nicks to their team

BeachBoy March 12th, 2008 11:55 PM

Same, I always nickname my pokemon.

For me I tend to base from weather

Salamence (Hurricane)
Garchomp (Jetstream)
Skarmory (Clearsky)
Tyranitar (Erosion)

So I usually go to an online weather dictionary and pick a name that would fit nicely, If I run out, I may get them from common saying or may even name them my friends online.

But most of the time, it's pure randomness.

UBCS March 13th, 2008 7:25 AM

I don't give them nicknames.
I'm not good at finding names.

Percy Thrillington March 13th, 2008 7:30 AM

I give my nickames to my Pokèmon randomly.

Take Skarmory, for example, he turned into Capriollè.

UberSushi March 13th, 2008 9:37 AM

I never give me Pokemon nicknames, it makes it confusing.

Ssyn March 13th, 2008 11:41 AM

I hate nicknaming my pokemon.
I usually hate the first form's name
but, the thing is, I usually love the final form's name.
Therefore, I keep the name, evolve them, and voila, I have the final form =D

Kairu March 13th, 2008 12:06 PM

I hate giving them nicknames, especially on older games, like Pokemon Yellow. Makes it very hard to find out which one you want. Newer ones like FR or LG makes it easier with the little icon though. Still don't like to give nicknames though. I only catch 1 of each kind of Pokemon so I have no need.

CastformRED March 13th, 2008 12:08 PM

I always nickname my Pokes, it gives them more of a "personal" feel. Or do I just like naming things?

For example, I always nickname Cyndaquil "Daisuke" :p

Lynnx March 13th, 2008 12:08 PM

I take the first few letters of pokemon names and turn them into little cutesy nicknames (i.e. Jolteon=Jojo, Charizard=Charzo, etc.) In case you were wondering, i AM a girl so don't stare at me like that.

TwilightBlade March 13th, 2008 2:52 PM

I love nicknaming every pokemon I catch but nowadays, I only nickname my team and shinies. Most have the first letter of its final form or sometimes its baby form and they consist of a lot of random subjects from flowers to mythology to gemstones.. =D

jarokn March 13th, 2008 7:51 PM

I nickname my pokemon using my name for the lead and my friends names everyone else

SebastienBlue March 13th, 2008 9:29 PM

i just caught a shiny clampearl, made a gorebyss just now, want a unique nickname.
idea?

~BlackHeartedWolf~ March 15th, 2008 1:09 PM

I like giving nicknames to my Pokemon. Not sure why, I just do. The only exception ish that I don't nickname my legendaries.

Most of my ideas for nicknames come from animes that I've watched, and Japanese/Russian words that I know =D

BREAKINGBEN March 15th, 2008 1:34 PM

The first pokemon I had was a Cyndaquil which I named after the person who helped me with my game :).

Once on Sapphire, I named them all after foods :).

BakingBluePotatoe March 15th, 2008 1:54 PM

I usually name most of my Pokemon... specially my Starter <3

I can't stand not having somthing from a trade nicknamed >.>
It makes it seem so... bleh D=

I remember naming my Pikachuu in yellow "Paprika" for no apparent reason xDD
and the Origin for "Torchy" and "Torcher" came from ... maybe a Torch's flame? (This was for Torchic {Now, my Blaziken})
Pyro, My Infernape, I remember very clearly. I named it "Pyro" because 'Pyro' meant fire (I think), and Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape was a fire-type =3
"Charlie" came from a fic I read... I thought it was good, so I used it for my Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard, just like the person in the fic did o_O

GS the Bounty Hunter March 15th, 2008 2:19 PM

Before my "leave from Pokemon" I used to name everything! And I was 10...so... they're kinda' wierd. Here's some examples from my Uber Sapphire game:

Mewtwo: Harry (Harry Potter)
Mewtwo: Urasakia (No idea)
Zapdos: Wat (not so wierd)
Kyogre: MARINE (Not so wierd either)
Rayquaza: SHARK (idk)
Sceptile: Treepan
Banette: Suragha
Breloom: Cucumber
Flygon: Valin
Aggron: Ron
Kyogre: Lord Drile
Groudon: TERRA (After that girl on Teen Titans who controlls the ground named "Terra")
Dragonite: Champ
Alakazam: Bioshay
Charizard: Moms
Walrein: Spevzy
Rayquaza: Luffy (off of One Piece)
Pelipper: Pidders
Groudon: LORD Ciov
Groudon: DAWN OGRE
Ditto: Stirk
Ninjask: Kid
Linoone: Streak
Delcatty: Phoenix
Vileplume: Fefe
Bellossom: Fofo
Sableye: Sajiay
Alakazam: Mon Giock
Wynaut: Wynikoi
Lanturn: Licflo
Magikarp: REMKO
Charizard: Nightcross
Manectric: Treeky Zap

Philman March 15th, 2008 7:21 PM

I used to have a Croconaw named CRACKERJACK. Goood times.

Precious Tears March 16th, 2008 12:47 AM

Usually I give nicknames to the Pokemon I use for Super Contest

EmeraldSky March 16th, 2008 5:22 AM

I name my Pokes after

--anime characters (Serena the Persian, Lita the Pikachu)
--game characters (Zelda the Gardevoir, Tails the Floatzel)
--Disney characters (Meeko the Linoone, Ariel the Vaporeon)
--foriegn words that suit the Pokemon (Luce the Ampharos, Estrella the Staraptor)

Skymin March 17th, 2008 2:28 AM

I usually name all my main Pokémon. I get names from Japanese names, the first letter of the Pokémon's names or the first thing that pops into my head.

poke-boy March 17th, 2008 10:23 AM

i hate nick naming pokemon it takes there uniqueness away.its silly to and just gets annoying and confusing .
i NEVERnickname Pokemon cause i love the names they have already.

nice thread idea though.:)

Who is Beelane LOL March 17th, 2008 10:33 AM

I used to, but they were stupid.
My first pokemon ever (Squirtle) I named SPLASH!!!...

Sigh...

Kurokaze March 20th, 2008 3:25 AM

I always name the pokemon I'm going to be using in my team. It gives them a bit of personality and means I don't have to think of them as their species name...which just seems weird to me.

diamondpearl876 March 20th, 2008 12:41 PM

Uhh. I use to nickname pokemon but they were common names that you'd see everywhere, so I don't really care for those.

I did start nicknaming my pokemon in PMD again, though, because in a pokemon society like that... I really doubt that all call each other by their species name.

Sydian March 20th, 2008 1:04 PM

I hate if if they're not named.

Ummm...some are just people names, some come off the Pokemon's name. And some I make up...such as three of these female Swampert: Tamerille, Awearille, and Mahrerille.

I'd like to see you pronounce them correctly. Heh.

Gummy March 20th, 2008 2:19 PM

I only nickname my first six captures and I usually name them after my closest friends.
