Chaining difficulties

I've been trying to get a shiny ralts for about three years now, with no luck.
Well, I though I had increased my chances when I got Diamond and learned about the magic of chaining, but I think I'm doing something wrong. The longest chain I have is 15, which is pretty sad. I know the rules of chaining: don't go into a patch of grass near the edge, son't go into the patch closest to you, never walk into the patch directly behind you, and always go into a patch that shakes in the same way as the last one you walked into (unless it shakes in many colors which can indicate a shiny). I always use a Max Repel before I start, and when it runs out I use another before continuing. After I finish one battle by either knocking out or catching the wild Pokemon, I just walk right into the next patch of grass that fits the criteria above.

That's pretty much it. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or not doing, or am I just unlucky? Can someone help me out with tips or advice as well? I really want that Ralts... ^_^;

You've got a grip of the basic understanding but apparently you need to work on it more. I can't say much though:
Highest chain for me is 23(or 24 or something)
You just need more practice is all :)

Okay, thanks you guys. I just looked up a guide on chaining and found some more tips on how to do this right as well.

i know how you feel took me 2 weeks to get the hang of chaining but it all comes down to practise and by the way you seem to know them things ill say you can get it in about 2 or 3 days remeber practise makes perfect my highest chain 78 with 5 shiny starlys i trined on common pokemon 1st to help me get better at chaining and i think you could to but just keep at it and you will get shinies like me

Chaining Pokémon isn't the easiest thing to do. It requires a lot of skill and attention. look for patterns in the way the grass rustles. If two rustle above you and one rustles below you, go for the one below you. i managed to get a chain of 45 Roselias and a chain of 41 Zigzagoons by using that technique. keep practising, you'll get better. But I do agree with the poster above, start with the easier pokémon (Starly, Bidoof etc) until you get the hang of it. Ralts are a rare Pokémon, they will be hard to chain.
