Help Me With My Team!

After battling with my friends who are *Pros* I decided I would like to step up and give this a try. I've never battled before outside of my circle of friends and I've been studying for a while. After a couple months of solid work I've decided upon my team. My friends say its good to base a team around a central goal, and my goal is to get my Heracross ready to sweep.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Adamant: 212 hp, 180 def, 118 atk
Waterfall
Stone Edge
Thunder Wave
Taunt

My lead poke, paralyzes things, scares away other Gyaras with Stone Edge and Weavile doesn't really bother it. Taunt is there for screwing walls, obviously.

Yanmega @ Expert Belt
Speed Boost
Modest: 252 sp atk, 252 spd, 6 def
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Hidden Power Ice
Protect

Revenge killer and star special sweeper. He's my backup killer.

Gengar @ Wide Lens
Timid: 252 spd, 252 sp atk, 6 hp
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Hypnosis
Will o Wisp

I need the double status to give Hera the edge and Wide Lens can't hurt. He can enter the game easily and cripple something when it is needed.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 atk
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Knock Off
Rapid Spin

Supporting Donphan. A nice physical wall. Knock Off gives more command over the game, and Rapid Spin is a given with the stealth rock weaknesses on the team. Can pick off things that have been worn down using Ice Shard, and hits Metagross pretty well too.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Natural Cure
Bold: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 spd
Seismic Toss
Stealth Rock
Thunder Wave
Softboiled

Standard Blissey with stealth rock. Thunder wave as well to slow down those fast special sweeps. (Alakazam, Gengar, etc....)

Heracross @ Wide Lens
Guts
Jolly: 252 spd, 252 atk, 6 hp
Megahorn
Close Combat
Swords Dance
Stone Edge

Star of the show. Once all its counters are gone or hindered to the point of no return, everything faster is slowed down, and all walls hindered, this thing comes in for the sweep.

man it all sounds good on paper.. but only real way is to battle... im sure u wont encounter everything u named ... i mean im a off the wall kinda guy and will use pokemon u never saw coming and utilize their skills u know... its not about how well it looks it is all about performance and how well u adapt.

good luck

Gosh, your team sounds great but you wouldn't know the real thing until you battle. Too bad I can't challenge you!

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Adamant: 212 hp, 180 def, 118 atk
Waterfall
Stone Edge
Thunder Wave
Taunt

My lead poke, paralyzes things, scares away other Gyaras with Stone Edge and Weavile doesn't really bother it. Taunt is there for screwing walls, obviously. It's ok

Yanmega @ Expert Belt
Speed Boost
Modest: 252 sp atk, 252 spd, 6 def
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Hidden Power Ice
Protect

Revenge killer and star special sweeper. He's my backup killer. Okay for a Yanmega but you might find that Yanmega isn't the best special sweeper you could get. Maybe replace it with something like Choice Specs Sceptile. Also using Yanmega as a special revenge killer isn't a great choice because you're opponent could easily switch out and it'll be hard to bring it in everytime to revenge kill if SR is in play.

Gengar @ Leftovers
Timid: 252 spd, 252 sp atk, 6 hp
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Hypnosis
Will o Wisp

I need the double status to give Hera the edge and Wide Lens can't hurt. He can enter the game easily and cripple something when it is needed. Wide Lens does give you a big boost in accuracy so replace it with Leftovers. Also I don't really like you simply using your Gengar just to help Heracross sweep because a cleric could simply come in a screw up all of Gengar's hard work.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 atk
Earthquake
Ice Shard/ Stealth Rock
Knock Off/ Stealth Rock
Rapid Spin

Supporting Donphan. A nice physical wall. Knock Off gives more command over the game, and Rapid Spin is a given with the stealth rock weaknesses on the team. Can pick off things that have been worn down using Ice Shard, and hits Metagross pretty well too. You need Stealth Rock, it helps up so much and Donphan is a great pokemon to set it up, better than Blissey.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Natural Cure
Bold: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 spd
Seismic Toss
Aromatherapy
Thunder Wave
Softboiled

Standard Blissey with stealth rock. Thunder wave as well to slow down those fast special sweeps. (Alakazam, Gengar, etc....) Donphan is a better pokemon to set up Stealth Rock with. Blissey as a cleric works really well too.

Heracross @ Wide Lens
Guts
Jolly: 252 spd, 252 atk, 6 hp
Megahorn
Close Combat
Swords Dance
Stone Edge

Star of the show. Once all its counters are gone or hindered to the point of no return, everything faster is slowed down, and all walls hindered, this thing comes in for the sweep. Oh boy. It's not good to base your side simply on one pokemon unless its BP. Sure everything might be slowed down but simple yet effective physical walls such as Skarmory and Foretress could easily come in a block Heracross and strike back. Also after a few Close Combat attacks, you'll be wide open to a Extremespeed attack from Lucario and Arcanine. Really, basing your whole side around one pokemon like Heracross to just sweep isn't a great idea. Change your strategy then come back. At least your side could sort of fend for themselves after your "charged up" Heracross is gone. However at least you are learning. My advice to you is to experience battling some more instead of just watching others. But you are on your way to becoming decent at battling.

Fine

Yanmega @ Expert Belt
Speed Boost
Modest: 252 sp atk, 20Spd/58HP
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Hidden Power Fire
Protect

Revenge killer and star special sweeper. He's my backup killer.
I don't see the appeal of HP ice on this thing, because steel types wall it completely. I know everyone else uses ice but I've found fire to be far more effective. After one speed bost you'll outspeed a lot of stuff, so bulk it up a bit more.

Gengar @ Wide Lens
Timid: 252 spd, 252 sp atk, 6 hp
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Hypnosis
Focus Blast

I need the double status to give Hera the edge and Wide Lens can't hurt. He can enter the game easily and cripple something when it is needed.
I personally dislike Wisp on this thing, but its your choice. Focus blast chews through stuff.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 atk
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Knock Off
Rapid Spin

Supporting Donphan. A nice physical wall. Knock Off gives more command over the game, and Rapid Spin is a given with the stealth rock weaknesses on the team. Can pick off things that have been worn down using Ice Shard, and hits Metagross pretty well too.
Good, me like teh donphan

Blissey @ Leftovers
Natural Cure
Bold: 212SpDef, 252 def, 44HP
Seismic Toss
Stealth Rock/Aromatherapy
Thunder Wave/Thunderbolt
Softboiled

Standard Blissey with stealth rock. Thunder wave as well to slow down those fast special sweeps. (Alakazam, Gengar, etc....)
New standard bliss if i remember correctly. Im yet to use it but ive been told it works. I perfer aromatherapy to SR but its a matter of preference again. Thunderbolt can stop ghosts stalling you, and still has a chance at paralysis.

Heracross @ Life Orb

None of those moves are particulary inaccturate, wide lense wont benefit you too much. Life orb is however a bit rocking on this thing in my opinion. Its an ok set though

Looks ok in general. It's slightly weavile weak, with 4/6 weak to something it carries, so be careful with gyarados because it looks like your best counter atm. But for a first team this is pretty good.

Azonic March 20th, 2008 5:58 AM

I'd use Dragon Dance over Thunder Wave any time on Gyarados. It still outruns and it gets the Attack boost too. =D

Mike Ukiuki March 20th, 2008 6:41 AM

yah gengar should now focas blast and a grass move like giga drain or something.

Not really. This set is fine. focus blast yes, energy ball no (Lol at giga drain). Grass doesnt have that good coverage, thunderbolt covers the same stuff (Namely water types) and more

umbros March 20th, 2008 10:25 AM

I agree on the grass moves. If you have Thunderbolt already, there's barely any use for grass moves (which would ONLY be Energy Ball, by the way, Mike) unless you fight Swampert in every battle. The combination of ghost moves and fighting hits everything for at least neutral damage, and Thunderbolt adds a few important coverages.

I like the team overall, you at least have a pretty good idea of how these things work. And even though it's already been said, wide lense isn't necessary on a pokemon with relatively accurate moves. You may be worried about flying types and want to even it out with Stone Edge, but that's not worth your item being tailored entirely for one counter.

Dunsparce March 20th, 2008 12:32 PM

I prefer Hypnosis > Protect on Yanmega.

And like Gofre said, HP Fire > HP Ice

Bwa ha ha i have a convert!
1 down, 4million members to go lol
Protect is better, its a cheap speed boost. One's really all you need. On a relatively frail poke with a quad weakness, its best not to put your money on a move with low accuracy.

Fixed :)

^Yes I am agreeing with you.

Anyways I'm not liking the SR weakness and your only physical wall and Spinner can't heal off damage. That will work against you. Donphan needs Rest over Knock Off.
