Who else remembers when Pokemon first came to North American TV?
I sure do, way before it was on either KidsWB or Cartoon Network, when it was on at like 7:00am on UPN, just before heading out to school. God, those were the days.
I think the Paras episode was the first one on WB (the one where the coward Paras couldn't fight for ****, and got his **** wrecked by Charmeleon). But every episode before that was on UPN, and it was godly. *le sigh* Damn, I miss feeling like how I did when it first came out. But at least we have a bigger variety of pogeys to choose from now rather than just 150(/151) |
Oh yeah I remember. Good times. XD
|
So many memories. But over here it was on prime time and I watched it always. I even watched the first movie in theaters. One of the best and most memorable movie experiences of my life
|
Oh yes. Watching the first movie in theaters and getting that mew card... it was the best. It was a big deal then too. XD
Love your Vivi theme by the way. XD |
No. I have no Idea what you're talking about. Pokemon never aired in America. What is this "Pokemon" you speak of? [end /sarcasm] lol.
Do I EVER remember it. One of the most monolithic moments of my life. Although, I do admit I don't remember which episode it was, I do remember watching it on Fox and it being one of the first few episodes. Probably Mt. Moon's episode. Anyway, I've had it in my heart so much, that it's been in my siggy for quite a while now. |

Well duh your six years older than me. Anyway yeah pokemon is that new to me I grew up with it and i'll die with it. Pretty sad really
|
I remember I was the new kid at school so naturally I heard about Pokemon from random kids on the playground. I ended up going to my friend's house and watching it on tv with her after that. I can't remember what episode it was, but I remember it had Eevee as the "Who's that Pokemon?" thing.

I remember when Pokemon first came to the UK. It was on SM:TV Live with Ant and Dec. You Americans really missed out...Ant and Dec dressed as Misty and Gary every Saturday and had hilarious "battles", they sang their own version of the Pokerap and did tons of random things. You have to see!
SM:TV Live Pokerap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO8ceymeTxc (they sang it every episode) Brockbuster part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqqxIFYfFTg Brockbuster part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KYAGY1Ntow Legends. Can't find any of the Misty vs Gary stuff. *sigh* Unfortunatly, Ant and Dec have gone onto doing bigger and better stuff. Saturday mornings aren't the same... |
I just sort of stumbled upon Pokemon while flipping through the channel at my cousins. Luckily it was the first episode and the first time I had ever seen such a creative show. I fell in love with it immediately.
|
I remember waking up one morning on a Saturday when I was 5 and seeing a whole marathon on WB and I loved it. It was like all the episodes they had so far and then the last on was the new episode. I then watched it every afternoon. I was in front of the tv for a long time. That's why I had to wear glasses for years of my life. God, I love Pokemon.

Brings back so many memories. ^_^
I knew about the game before I watched the anime, because my brother had been telling me it was similar to Tamagotchi. A few weeks later, I was looking through Blockbuster's catalogue(They used to have a newspaper-catalog in their stores) and I noticed this little pic here: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519JZEQ8ZJL._AA280_.jpg So of course, I recognized it and rented it right away. I was 9 years old, I think. |
Yup I remember watching it on UPN at 7 am and then they played it around 4 pm also on weekdays.
My days revolved around Pokemon, I still remember getting in trouble for bringing Pokemon Red into school. LOL |
I actually remember the first ever episode they showed dubbed. That was the "Battle Aboard the SS. Anne" episode. The announcer said that they would start off with that episode because it was more action-packed than the first one.
And for the premier, my station had two episodes played, so after the SS. Anne, I saw the first episode. |
I remember watching the very first episode for the very first time, although the first episode of Pokémon I've ever recalled watching was the one where Ash goes to challenge Sabrina. :x
|
Yesh! THough I forget which episode it was...^^;;; I remember watching it on UPN too, with also Sailor Moon, Jumanji, Tarzan, and Digimon. xD I was about 8 at the time. xD
|
Sure do.
Gah, those were the days. Watching it before school and after school on KidsWB. |

|
Hah... I remember that well. T_T I remember getting out of school to see the first movie. That was like, the best thing ever at the time.
|
ohh the memories. i still play the games(only my best friend knows, we battle all the time) i loved watching them at 7:00 am before school at kanto. the happiness it brought me!:D i watched every episode and i still do(not really, only Kanto) those were good movies and i watched them all. sadly, i grew up in an anti-pokemon children school.
so, thanks for letting me remember the good days and times. anybody like the magmar episode cause thats my fave! |
When I was young it aired on Swedish TV at 7 am.
I remember my brother waking me up each Saturday (thats the only day it aired, hooray no missed episodes!) saying ''Wake up, wake up, Pokemons starting!!'' |
Like I said before 7 am upn. Also reading every post I discovered someone mention the mew card which no one can understand cause it is in ancient what ever and can't be used. I remember I told the kids in my old friends neighborhood that if you notice the symbols on the cards are different and if you all give them to me I can go to the museum and translate them. Oh the joy I had with 50 or so of those. Now that I look at them they do have different symbols 0_o

When i watched its first movie in theater, It was the day when i become great fan of pokemon.

...But am I not right in thinking that Pokemon aired on ITV separate from SM:TV originally? It was a long time ago so I could well be wrong... =/ |

I watched Pokemon on YTV when it came out. Great times~ I had to buy the first movie on video to see it, so I didn't get a Mew card. :( |
When i was little, my mom was a real... well bad person. But, she had custody of me and even though i wanted to stay with my grandma, who was and still is really nice to me, i had to leave with her for a week. When i got to where she wanted me to go, (tulsa, oklahoma), she told me that i couldnt go back to my grandmas house, and i was stuck in Tulsa. So, after alot of crying she took me to the store so i could "suck it up". I saw a Dragonball Z movie, and i wanted it, but it was over 30 bucks at the time. My mom though, said i could get a different movie. I saw a pokemon movie with clefairy on it, the mt moon one, and so i got it. I dont really remember why. When i was home i then watched the movie non stop until my grandma talked my mom back into letting me live with her again. Then i was already hooked. Oh man, those days of wanting to be a pokemon trainer and thinking how really cool it would be to have a pokemon in real life, that feeling you get when your a little kid ya know? Those where great. I watched as many episodes as i could on UPN, and i caught every episode in the first season. Even the tentacool one, i bought the movie and watched it. I had no idea they were going to pull it, though.
So yeah, a bad thing lead to a good thing. This all happened when i was around 2nd grade. Really fun times, wish i could go back to them. |
I remember getting up early in the morning to catch the show. I tried to watch every episode, but stopped after we moved across the country. I even recorded what episodes I watched onto paper for reference. Those were epic days. They don't make good anime/cartoons like these anymore, I tell ya it's a shame.
|
People keep saying it was on UPN, what was that station? I remember watching it on a diff. channel than WB kids or CN. But oh my god, the very first thing was "Pokemon Pikachu!" with the little commercial jingle and how you shook it to give him electric experience points or something. I used to jump on my bed when that music came on.
Then I got red version and started watching the show and I remember being freaked out when they almost drowned on the St. Anne. |
i remeber those days long live pokemon!!!!!!!!!
