Question on chaining (not in FAQ)

Not in FAQ because it's probably too basic. I don't even know what chaining is.

So.. I was hunting down a tyrogue. I used pokeradar and found one. After I caught him there were sparkling patches without me doing anything, and again tyrogue appeared. caught that one as well and then again the same thing happened and another time after that. The fourh encounter I just ran away from it, and no more patches sparkled.

Was this a chain? If so: what do you do to keep the chain going without having to capture all of them?

You don't have to capture them at all. What your supposed to do is just 1 hit ko them and then move into the next patch. And what you were going into wasn't a shiny patch it was just a quick shaking patch with leaves coming out of it. Their will be stars if its a shiny patch.

ok.. well, then hunting for shinies is really easy...

El Gofre March 30th, 2008 1:25 PM

As an extension, you dont need to OHKO them. You just need to beat them. When you capture or beat a pokemon, the chain continues, anything else breaks it.

White Dragon ZB March 30th, 2008 1:27 PM

Trust me, chaining may seem easy but once you try for a while and a chain breaks you'll see how it really is.

Storm-DC March 30th, 2008 1:30 PM

but when you would save after every pokemon and soft reset the chain continues?

White Dragon ZB March 30th, 2008 1:31 PM

Nope, saving breaks the chain.
