Bug Pokemon Quest

I have a very simple mission to accomplish. Since I don't find fun in completing my pokedex, I find my kicks while playing to create a perfect team (exempt from using legendaries, I never touch the things). Now my mission is to complete all gym challenges and the pokemon league in D/P whilst only using bug type pokemon.

I started with a Kricketot and my team is now Kricketune 30, Beautifly 30, Wormadam (Steel) 30, Wormadam (Earth) 26, and Vespiquen 21. The game has yet to be too much of a challenge, though I only have 2 badges and have been playing for 23 hours, I have had to grind and train my pokemon alot more then I ever have had to do before.

Has anyone ever tried to accomplish this feat that I am yearning to accomplish? If so I'd like to know some information on how you personally completed it. Also, would anyone be interested to know my progress and when I am able to complete it, what my team will consist of in the end?

Just thought some of you other pokefans would be interested.

Thanks,
The (Self Proclaimed) Bug Master.

Use a Heracross. That should pretty much kill everything.

Bug_Master April 3rd, 2008 12:31 PM

Any tips on which honey trees may produce a Heracross? Since, I have not been able to find one yet. (I've been leaving the 6th spot in my team open for one.)

Naito April 3rd, 2008 12:31 PM

Get a Heracross as a pretty awesome physical sweeper, and Yanmega as another bug-type if you want.

mewunlimited April 3rd, 2008 12:33 PM

yeah get a heracross.
and by the way theres a bug type elite four

Thank you, but I am aware of the bug elite 4 trainer, Since, I have already beaten this game.

Again, any trees in certain areas that would be best to find the Heracross?

airconditioning April 3rd, 2008 12:36 PM

All honey trees produce the same Pokemon. It just takes time and patience. LOTS of it.

Also, if you had the National Dex, DEFINITELY use Yanmega. There are very few bug-types that don't suck.

I wont be able to obtain a Yanmega until completing the game and receiving the nationaldex.

mewunlimited April 3rd, 2008 12:39 PM

if you really want heracross, its timing.
wait until a few minuites before the end of 24 hours since you put the honey on the tree

Bug_Master April 3rd, 2008 12:45 PM

Seriously? I usually dont even wait a full 24 hours to check my honey trees, maybe 10 at the most. So, if I wait longer and try to time it perfectly as you say, I will get a Heracross? Or is it a better chance? I would like to know if others believe the same thing or if it is just your personal idea.

airconditioning, thank you for letting me know that the area of the tree doesnt matter, that makes searching for one a bit less stressful.

Motsuko Live April 3rd, 2008 12:46 PM

Just a though: How are you going to teach your Pokemon surf or rock smash/climb? I'm not sure if there are any Bug types who can learn those HMs...lol, just a thought

It's bull. I can understand what he's talking about- soft resetting right before the tree shakes, then checking the tree every time for a new Pokemon- but it doesn't work. There are two reasons for this.

1) It takes 8 hours for the tree to shake, not 24.
2) The trees shake based on the internal clock. Soft-resetting wouldn't turn back time. And don't even say to turn back the internal clock.

I switch my pokemon in and out with other types that know those moves, I just dont use anything but bug pokemon to fight other pokemon. Its a bit annoying to go to the pc and switch them in and out but ultimately its worth the fun and the challenge.

Also to add to that. I restarted to get a female burmy both times, but once its a burmy on a tree its only a burmy every time you restart. So youre not going to get a new pokemon to appear on the tree by resetting, its already set.

Motsuko Live April 3rd, 2008 12:56 PM

When you shake a tree, the Pokemon that appears will always be the same; Only the stats, gender, etc will change. And I know this as a fact. 100% certain, incase "certain people" try to object ._.

I completely second you in that, like I said above.

This is true.

GEE THOSE "CERTAIN PEOPLE" MUST BE JERKS.

mewunlimited April 3rd, 2008 1:03 PM

NO I DONT MEAN SOFT-RESETING
i can tell you

firstly, if the tree shakes after 8 hours that dosent prove anything
that is just the minimum time

i suffered to get my heracross before i used that method
just try it okay

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and try it out. I have nothing to lose in all of it. Thanks for your personal advice, and if it works, even more thanks!

airconditioning April 3rd, 2008 1:13 PM

Hold on, you mean just waiting a few minutes before 24 hours and then shaking it? It doesn't matter how long you wait, the same Pokemon is going to be there. I think it was just luck.

Thats actually a really good point. Here I am preaching the fact that its always the same pokemon once its set, and I didnt even think that that would affect this particular idea of obtaining a heracross.

Milke April 3rd, 2008 2:18 PM

That's a fun idea! Should you get a Drapion? They're pretty good, right?

airconditioning April 3rd, 2008 2:29 PM

Only problem is that Drapion is Poison/ Dark. He scraps the Bug typing when he evolves.

Bug_Master April 3rd, 2008 10:46 PM

I could always keep it from evolving, though that may not be strong enough of a pokemon to help me get through the pokemon league.

Hadim Sinan Pasha April 4th, 2008 12:47 AM

Well yes, Heracross is strong and would help a lot (obviously) but there is always Vespiqen as a substitute (extra Pokemon incase you need it). At only 2 Gym Badges, that's not bad although 23 hours. Is that because you waited so long for your pokemon or is that because of your training?

EDIT:WOOT, 100 posts... that was so unnecessary.

smile! April 4th, 2008 9:49 AM

Mothim is also a good one, with SAtk 94 (boost w/ Modest) and quite great moves like Psychic, Air Slash, Energy Ball etc..
But its defenses aren't that great either (50)
