Epicness in the making
 
Epic.

This is the word that comes to mind when I think of how could this could be. When I first read this through I was...excited. I thought this really could be great. But I must admit I had my doubts. I thought the extent of anime in the game would be fighting a spearow in the forest and that's it. While this wouldn't be a bad thing I hoped for more. All my fears were put to rest after looking through your plan for only the first route.

It will be hard work of that I have no doubt but I'm sure it was be worth it. If you need any help (sorry my hacking experiance is downloading Advance Map and messing around with that so I can't help you on that front) don't hesitate to ask.

It great to see the Anime get the game it deserved all along.

As far as route 1 goes, I think it looks awesome and the events sound great. You said you are going to block the player going right forcing him into the event with spearow. How are you going to do this? I was thinking something along the lines of a script popping going.. "I think this is the wrong way" or something along those lines. Then again I don't know if you have anything planned.

And now to quote the awesome...:paranoid:... S Club 7... "Don't stop, never give up"

Reading that it really is quite a mammoth 3rd post. ^_^

Barker Um I have ideas on what to do for some simple things.
1. When ash is late to oaks he goes thee in pajama then when he is ready with pikachu you do a sleep at home warp and when he wakes up he is in his new clothes.
2. For weather like event I.E. the charmander nad Ho-oh do same above but for charmander after you and the gang rest there and for Ho-oh after you faint.
3. Um let me see. Oh got one. Um how about putting a seperate rout to the right of pallet town going to oaks and a ranch were you view deposited pokemon

It seems your going to use alot of scripts in this. I also think when your going to have the 'backpackchu' that should include it when Gary stops you in an event? ("Whats that?! A backpackchu?") xD.

I'll probably change it eventually. Mostly, the calm water was to show that the player doesn't need to surf on it.

For now, the "Backpackachu" idea is going to stay, until I can get a spriter to help me with the shoulder idea. (For those who missed the joke, the "Backpackachu" isn't a backpack at all, it's really Pikachu riding on your back.) And yeah, of course the hack is going to need hack-specific humor, which will be some of the only ways I plan to split a tiny bit with the Canon.:P Maybe I'll have a running Joke where Ash says stupid things. ("Maybe it's a Cowterpie!" (A very real joke used in the.. Second? episode by Ash.) Then in a different situation, "Maybe it's a Backpackachu!". "Maybe it's a... lame idea :P.") Hmm.

I just think Gary would be the one to say something like "Nice Backpack, loser, you suck, kiss my Butt..erfree," etc etc etc.

Another tidbit for those who didn't know: each of my maps so far has been blanked with Trees before I start, and I plan to keep it that way.

I would hate myself for ramping anyone up, then giving them something lame like a single battle. And thanks, man. As for blocking the route, I'll probably have some "Convenient" excuse, maybe Pikachu refusing to go, or two trainers battling, as in G/S during the early Mr. Pokemon segment.

Don't worry, we've all had that song stuck in our heads once or twice. :P Thanks again.

1. That seems complicated. If it works, I'm all for it, but it'll have to wait till I'm someway into the hack to be implemented. I'm more focused on getting this off the ground right now than fixing minute-long inconsistencies.
2. Yeah, I forgot about adding the much-needed Thunderstorm Weather part 5 of the event. Don't worry, weather will be part of the experience. ;)
3. I've only watched partway into the first season, and haven't seen anything about a ranch yet. Anyway, seeing all your Pokemon would be cool, but it seems like it would require a very, very complex script. For now, we'll shelve this idea.

Anyway, Utah kids in my area get a few days off from high school to chill for Easter Break. Guess how I'll be spending some of mine? :P

Expect a new map tonight/early tomorrow morning.

Zel how did you make the phone both script I know it was a big script because there were a lot of trainers that had Id's but truly how did it work for you to register characters then be able to call them in different maps. But the main part i'm wondering is The register thing It seems difficult but I'm still trying to learn it.

I'm not "remaking" anything though; the game has new graphics from a Rombase, and I don't plan on revamping anything from Yellow, besides possibly the Pikachu sprite.

As for Greeno.. Off-Topic, amirite?

Misty and Brock won't follow. We've established this. Two, running will look the same, so far as I'm concerned, only faster. Maybe Pikachu will bounce around a little?

Darkly, I don't know if I want to trouble you with that. It's not a big deal anyway.

On a more serious point in the 3rd episode ash catches two Pokemon. Are you going to make catching the Pokemon optional or a script where they catch them? My initial idea was that the first Pokemon (Caterpie) was caught by an NPC to 'teach' the player how to catch Pokemon then the player has a go and catches the Pidgeotto? I realise it may be hard to stick right to the anime but was just wondering myself. Again I'm not sure if you had any ideas for this.

I thought of something like that, but it really wouldn't be practical to require certain Pokemon to be caught. After all, half the fun is building your own team. If a player really wants to be exactly like Ash though, he/she will catch the same Pokemon on their own.

On another note, I added the Map for Pallet Town. Something about it strikes me as weird, so it will probably be edited a tiny bit. Nonetheless, there it is. Feel free to critique it.

Personally I think the Pallet town map looks awesome. Very big and it does remind me of the anime.

Nice to see a starter town bigger than 20x20 tiles :P

Are you planning to create insides for all the houses?

Palet town looks awesome, it reminds me so much of the one from anime (especialy oak's lab and ash's home). But if you will do every town so big will you have free space for Orange Islands ?

Wow, the maps you posted in the "Map rating thread" look awesome. They're much, much better than the original. They look so good and original in style. So, the mapping parts going good as I can see. How's the scripting, buddy?

Good to know it's still going well. I took a look at the first post maps, and it's interesting how everything's planned for Route1. It'll be more when I get to see those events in action, obviously :P

About the Pallet map, I always thought Pallet (in the anime) was a town more like in the middle of some plains, with each house being far away from the others, but I guess that wouldnt work well because it'd make the place look a bit more empty.

Well, keep it up! I'm sure all the anime lovers will enjoy this :)

The priority is to have the first season done and completely done. I won't skimp on features for the original season to include the Orange Islands. (If the Orange Islands fit, yippie, if not, It's still going to be a complete game.)

Still working on it, as it's very patchy. It'll all come together though.

Have to back up my scripts, yep.

Pallet was sort of an anomaly. I wanted it to be more plainslike, but you just can't give the starting town that much space in hacks. I have a ton of stuff to fit in. If I find out I have enough space at the end, I'll remap it to be more plainslike, but for now, that's what I'm going to work with.

I worked on Viridan a bit last night, but I may need to make the map smaller. Perhaps I can get it done tonight. After that, I need to map what was Route 22 in the original.

Oh, maybe I forgot to post it. I'm going to have to renumber some of the routes, because there are extra cities unaccounted for in the originals- more cities means more routes.

After that, I need to put down Advance Map and script. -_- Once I get up to about Pewter or so, we can start thinking about a Showcase thread and a beta. Hopefully, I can get all of this done by late May.

the new maps look really good barker,

i do hope you're going to be able to keep this still a game and not so much a show tie in like some seem to be stressing it to be, honestly some minor things (burnt bike? pokemon order?) those are probly some of the least essential out of all the things you could account for in the grand scheme of things.... not that i am trying to offendf anyone or anything about that, but it seems really silly to myself..

on to a question then, will you encounter jesse, james and meowth often or in some of the more notable events they were part of?

no need to give specifics on the events you're intending to use however gfor that would spoil any surprises that we might encounter along the way

First of all, thanks.

I certainly don't plan to hold the player's hand and FORCE them to do things a certain way; I guess this game is more the story than anything. Some people might like to play it exactly like Ash, some might like to deviate. Some might like to not use Pikachu at all. I'm going to keep it open to the player while keeping the story as close as possible to the real thing.

Jesse and James will probably not show up every event (They've been in every episode except the first.), but they will obviously be a big part of the story. Needless to say, they will take over the role of main Rival.

I showed that one even to give players an idea of how events will go, and that I actually have a plan of how to do everything. I'm not just throwing random references out there, and, for lack of a better term, half-as$ing things. I certainly won't be showing every event. Most of the fun is the sense of exploration.

(Not sure on PC's language rules :P)
