IV breeding and EV training????????

Everyone keeps talking about IV breeding and EV training can anyone tell me how to do both pleez

Matt-O April 5th, 2008 1:06 PM

IV breeding is breeding pokemon with the hope that the offspring will have good IV's. IV's are numbers between 0 and 31 that factor into how high your Pkmn's stats are. Higher IV, higher stat. You only have so much control since hatched Pkmn inherit some IV's from their parents. The rest are randomly given to them. This can be frustrating if you want your Pkmn to have a certain nature.

every pokemon has an EV value, when you defeat it in combat, you gain those EV point(s) which go toward raising a certain stat. You can get 255 EVs for each stat, but only a max of 510. The Pokerus and Macho Brace double those points you get. Power items from battle tower increase these too.
For example:
Pichu-1 spd point
defeat 255 pichus and you're speed will be significantly higher than normal
with the pokerus you'll double it to 2, and with the macho brace double it again to 4 points per pichu
now you have to defeat 4x less pichus (about 64)
get the basic idea?

here these may help too-

Don't fight 255 Pichus. Fight 252. Every 4 EV's equals one stat point. So, 255 would be a waste of 3 EV's you could use to help another stat, because it's not divisible by 4. In the end, you will always waste 2 EV's anyway you slice it (510 not divisible by 4)

yea true, i was never picky about those few stat points tho lol
but i was just tryin to let him get the basic idea of what he was asking about.

Majay-hi April 5th, 2008 3:22 PM

so how do u control ivs of hatched pkmn?

POKEMASTERALEX April 5th, 2008 3:45 PM

I actually just wrote a guide on EV training
http://www.bestfreeforums.com/forums/pokemasteralexs-guide-to-ev-training-vt34-pikachubokujo.html

Check it out!

*Edit-you can't control the IVS of hatched pokemon. The only way you can "push" it in the right direction would be to breed two parent pokemon with great IVS.

OH MY GOD. Seriously, this exact thread is posted every day. Read the stickies.
http://pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=123757

And IV breeding is much more complicated than the people here have stated. Read this.

Chill buddy, we were trying to give them the basic facts, not a detailed walkthrough, it's kinda stupid to try to tell him everything at once.

El Gofre April 6th, 2008 7:04 AM

Yeah but there really is no "basic" way to do either of those things. Without a sound knowledge its extremely easy to go wrong. The FAQs are there for a reason.

Last Raven April 6th, 2008 7:07 AM

Very true, but if someone knows nothing about it...give them an introduction of the basic concept, and if they care about it, then get them more detailed information.

However, the FAQ explains EVs much better than your post...

Last Raven April 6th, 2008 7:20 AM

I think the point I was making flew right over your head.
I was merely giving the basic idea.
Nothing more.
I really didnt explain much, I just gave them a general concept of what EVs are.

airconditioning April 6th, 2008 7:25 AM

No, I meant that the FAQ explained the basic idea much better than your post.

Last Raven April 6th, 2008 7:27 AM

Well, excuse me for not being a walking FAQ.
I don't make it my mission to memorize those.
I explained it off the top of my head, gimme a break.

POKEMASTERALEX April 6th, 2008 8:54 AM

Last Raven is right man, when someone asks about something as massive as EV and IV training a small intro is best rather than a huge FAQ, just to get their "feet wet". Think about it, the way the thread creator asked about evs and ivs made it seem like he didn't know how in depth a topic it really was. Therefore, he probably wasn't looking for some huge wall of typing like a FAQ. He just needs a small intro and if he wants to learn more THEN he can go to a FAQ.

Airconditiong you were right in saying that someone makes a thread like this every day, but it isn't our fault they didn't check the FAQ's first. We are all just trying to help him the best we can, by referring him to many different places.

Each individual stat can have the maximum capacity of 255 EV Points.

That is not a wall of text. Either that, or you just have ADD.

Last Raven April 6th, 2008 11:16 AM

That didnt explain it any better...it didnt even give examples.
And yea i do have ADD =)
