In episode 3 of "Adventures in Pokesitting II", I'm planning to have the gang take Mizu and Umi (the Azurills) to the movies...but what movie should I make them see?

I'll accept Pokemon parodies of real movies, made up movies, or even plugs for fics, but the movie they see has to be G rated...

Frostweaver September 20th, 2005 2:18 PM

Negrek speaks of those who aren't Pokemon veterans writing Mewtwo fanfics like that. Because they rely on the dub which didn't show the Pokemon First Movie prequel, they obviously misunderstood Mewtwo. Dub Mewtwo portraits itself as one who never experienced love, and only hates humans because Giovanni tried to manipulate Mewtwo for his own power. Yet because of the lack of the radio drama, Mewtwo's ambition to find a purpose of life and why Ash is restored to life by tears are never explained... It's a shame really. Mewtwo's story is probably the only part of the Pokemon anime that is actually properly planned, and young Mewtwo in the radio drama is very philosophical. People who knows of the entire story of Mewtwo actually portrait Mewtwo as someone who wants to find love in order to re-create his childhood. There is a really good fanfic somewhere (which I forgot the title of, shame on me) that talks of an airplane crash right above where Mewtwo and the clones are hiding. Every human being on the plane died, and only a baby girl survives. Mewtwo then took care of the human girl and in a sense, re-enacted Mewtwo's childhood through the girl with only that the roles of the human girl and Mewtwo are switched around. Now the girl is doing all the questioning like Mewtwo in the past, while Mewtwo has taken the role of being the parent. Unfortunately, I don't know how the fanfic turned out because it was never finished. That one kind of borders angst and leans much more to tragedy, but it's definitely worth mentioning. Mewtwo can stand out *very well* if a reader knows the backstory of the radio drama.

There's actually plenty of Pikachu angst, but usually it's not Ash's Pikachu. Most of the time, it's some other Pikachu who is expected to be as powerful as "the legendary trainer" and those trainers push their Pikachu too hard, resulting in a tragic tale. But that's not the one I have in mind either...

Hmm personally I don't really like those Ash's Charizard angst fanfics, because their arguements are really weak. They try to use canonical information to make an angst, but the anime did a seriously poor job of reasoning why Charizard disobey Ash in the first place (not much reason to it.)

Actually, I was thinking of Chikorita ;p Jealousy-angst for the win!

Hmm I don't know what movies there Emeraldsky... You may have to choose the movie depending on what/how you want the story to be like.

Hmm, seems that we'll hafta keep working at it.

Heya, I'm back! Now the FF lounge will arise and dominate the world's plutouranium! WAHAHAHACK! XP

Deh, Mewtwo is so cool and everybody's like 'oh noes, he's so depressing because he's searching for*insert really tragic something here* and he can't find it! Deesh, it's annoying. I mean, it's not like he's supposed to be miserable just because he's scouring the world by night, blah blah blah. Like, he's cool! XD

Although I HAVE seen fanfics involving him that don't portray him as miserable. He's the bad guy, not the 'gloomy guy'. XD Miserable or evil, take your pick. XP XD

How depressing. XP XD 8X

Question: How do you like to write your stories? Do you prefer first person POV or third? Do you like writing action or romance or what?

I enjoy first person POV most of the time, and action or just plain old day-to-day living. A good example of 'day-to-day living' would be 'Misconception', by Act. I've enjoyed reading that, almost 100% because it was realistic. I mean, ten-year-olds aren't exactly the geniuses the show makes them out to be, but they're not always the n00bs so many parodies say they are. They're ten-year-olds! XD

Anyways, what's your preferred style?

Frostweaver September 20th, 2005 4:38 PM

But that Mewtwo I mentioned is the good guy who isn't evil or that gloomy XD;

The battle fanfic... hopefully it lives. I only got to read 3 fanfics out of it =/

I personally prefer 3rd person just because I suck at anything with "I" o.o; and "I" makes reviewing, reading and writing that much harder.

oni flygon September 20th, 2005 4:50 PM

I'm kinda good with first person... it's better that way in order to express some emotions better, at least... and it's a lot better because you can only have a one sided view, which is kind of an interesting effect rather than an omniscient view of the character's minds, etc...

Easy to say, hard to do...

It's *really* hard for 3rd person to be better than the 1st person ever besides action-adventures where it's "less thinking, more fighting." The difficulty to do anything with 1st person though... I'll rather settle for a much easier writing style rather than to risk aiming for something so high that it's out of reach.

oni flygon September 20th, 2005 4:56 PM

Yeah, true... but first person is kind of a nifty challenge for me... it's a convenient way of hiding the other characters' thoughts ...

pokejungle September 20th, 2005 5:09 PM

3rd Person all the way~

The piece of writing that wasn't that way was a 10 page beginning to a book on why my town sucks. Which is really sad. But, I just got really pissed one day about my town ^^

Dragonfree September 20th, 2005 11:31 PM

I like to write third person limited omniscient, but occasionally first person. As for the genre, I can write pretty much everything that's not shipping (and that's just because I'm an anti-shipper). I've written angst, romance (to a point, in the form of one fic I never managed to write more than one chapter of and then a part of The Quest for the Legends), comedy, crossover, parody... depends on what mood I'm in at the moment of writing. I also like to juggle many fics at a time - currently, The Second Clone, which is one of my first fics but I've started revising it because the idea behind it was in my opinion one of the better I've had); The Quest for the Legends, of course, both the ILCOE and IALCOTN versions; The Type Chart, a Pokémon/The Matrix crossover/parody; and Life of a Character the parody.

Iveechan September 21st, 2005 1:57 AM

I can't do first person. It's too embarrassing. Plus, in life, my internal dialogue is very detached, weird and off-track all the time. So trying to get my mental mumblings into an actual story is freakishly difficult. Now, getting empathy into a character in 3rd person i can do pretty well (in my humble opinion).

In a way, first person, to me, seems more forceful. It's very biased, as Frosty said. It limits the reader into making their own decisions at what's happening. And to me, first person just feels awkward to write because you don't go "And I felt very scared, indeed" in life, you just think "OMG!" in your head and perform whatever action without describing it. You just do it. Eh. Does this make sense?

Act September 21st, 2005 2:26 AM

I like both 3rd and first person, but I think first is more difficult to properly use.

I don't really feel like ellaborating... -.-'

Frostweaver September 21st, 2005 8:51 AM

Yes first person is biased, but the biased view is exactly what makes 1st person attractive to use. Not only is the story more personal to the reader, but it's one of the best ways to add descriptions about any characters, especially for the protagonist. First person favors emotional stories (angst, romance, drama) and can also works as interludes for 3rd person stories as well.

I think that it's definite and absolute how 1st person is more difficult to use... at least the school system up in Canada here agrees with me on that one =p

Negrek September 21st, 2005 1:28 PM

Meh, I write pretty much everything but romance. I suck at romance writing, probably because I hate reading it. Most commonly I write action/adventure.

I use third person for my main 'fics, but several (okay, maybe two) of my one-shots are in first person. They're stream of consciousness (dang, I can't spell today *brain explodes*) ones, so they're a bit hard to do any other way.

The battle thread lives! *happy*

Now if only we could get some more audience participation, here.

pokejungle September 21st, 2005 2:31 PM

1st Person- I'd have to say that it's annoying to read IMO. 0_____________o; Generally I dislike them, even if they are well written. For example, Stephen King, my favorite author [along with Piers Anthony] has written several short stories in first person and I still don't like them. It's not that I don't apperciate different types of literature, it's not my thing.

Writing Genres » Can't STAND writing romance! GAH! Last year in English I worked with one of my best friends on the beginnings of a horror/romance novel. I handled the horror, she did the romance >) We got an A though~ So I was happy.

I'm a morbid horror kid. As I said, King is one of my biggest influences. But I dabble-*cough* ok, more than just dabble, in the Fantasy realm. It has so much more interesting story parts than real life <33 Right now I've actually got a really good beginning going 0o; Now just to find time to work on it ;D

Back to 1st person for a moment, I always have to yell at newbie RPers because they go First Person. And they suck D: SOMEONE please click: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=44784 and tell me if I did a good job on explaining first person >>; If more for RPing than writing.

Frostweaver September 21st, 2005 3:39 PM

Well... Since no one else joined the battle fanfic, I might as well go in and scribble something. HOWEVER, battling as always been the *weakest* part for me =/ So... yes best of luck for Frosty ;_;

Yes, we do need a LOT more participation in the battle fanfic =/ It's an excellent idea really.

pokejungle September 21st, 2005 3:54 PM

ZOMG! I can't believe it, but I'm actually writing a fanfic ATM~

Very surprising from me o_______________o;

Lily September 21st, 2005 5:26 PM

I'll participate- just explain what's going on currently.

Lily will crush frosty. >:)

Katsuro, this is the fanfiction section after all. xD

oni flygon September 21st, 2005 6:25 PM

Niko used to do battle descriptions really well... he just doesn't know if he's as good nowadays...

Lily's online?

*speechless*

Just... WOW O_O I haven't chat with you for 2 weeks now (blah and busy all the way until Saturday in terms of MSN chat... work every Wednesday and Thursday, and church fellowship every Friday)

I'm battling Silverblaze already. Plus you know that a battle with you is unfair because regardless of how I type the story, I'll lose something one way or another >>;

Unfair battle ;o;

Strawberry Delcatty September 22nd, 2005 12:55 AM

I think I might join the battle fanfic thread as well...

But then again... I doubt I'd do too well.

Act September 22nd, 2005 2:23 AM

I'd participate if my challenger hadn't gone AWOL.

So, yeah... I'll take on someone....

By that reasoning, I shouldn't even TRY to write in the FFBT anymore.

Everybody else is higher on the seniority thing than me, and so it would be next to impossible for me to write ANYTHING without losing in some form. XD Fortunately, I have a healthy ego, so I'd survive about four of those. XD

Side note: Uh, did you people know that there IS a Silverblaze out there? That's why I called myself "...09", because somebody already swiped my name on Yahoo! XD

Odd fact: Uh, I just looked back over the FFBT history, and, uh, I've participated in all the battles that were written! Odd. XD

POSTING TIME, POSTING TIME, POST YOUR CHARACTER AND WAIT FOR A VICTIM CHALLENGER! XD [/random]

Hmm, CB STILL hasn't posted his end of our battle yet... How long should we wait before we give people forfeit tickets? I was thinking of warning him again and wait 'til Saturday...

Uh... you know what? I just realized something. I can't battle that well at all. My NetBattle record is awful (I've got over 100 losses on my old record long ago in the GSC), and I really can't write fan fic battles compared to the likes of the authors of Frostweaver's Standard of Excellence fics. It's not you, SB. I'm just bad, and I don't want to mess anyone up.

I'll stick with HMW for the time being and try to improve from there...
I hope.

Frostweaver September 22nd, 2005 11:36 AM

And how else do you expect the battles inside HMW to go if you don't practice now? It's a great chance for all of us to sharpen our fanfic battling abilities. Don't forget that fanfic battles are *hardly* alike those of netbattle. You'll be laughed at if you're using attacks like mud sport, stockpile, and other strange attacks like that, but I personally chose these netbattle-wise useless attacks for my fanfic battle. It's about creativity and how you handle each different aspect of the battle, not the battling skills on the gameboy.

There's plenty of difficulty within the battle fanfic that you may not be expecting at a simple glance. Silverblaze thought that he's choosing a "n00bish" team especially with a trainer name like that. I don't think he realized just how much problems it can cause some people to try to portrait a trainer whose name is "SuperTrainer" realistically... thank goodness that I finally found a way around it ^o^

It's kinda fun really. Though then again, this is kinda *very* long o.o; Or maybe I'm being queer as 3 pages of MSWord passed and still there's no fainting yet >>;
