Family Suggestion...

Hey Pokécommunity.

Well over on MSN, TwilightBlade and I were talking and we brought up a discussion on the information you can give out on your "about me" tab for your profile. You can have claims of bishies, pairs, etc etc, and even music for your profile! (Which is great by the way)

Anyways, how about putting a PC Family section on that page? Were we can list our PC family members and thus causing less signature cludder.

What do you think?

I wouldn't mind having it there, but not everyone would use it. A lot of people like to have it displayed in their signatures (stylized and so forth.)

Exactly.

Yeah, I know a lot do it in their signatures, but they also do their bishies and such, and thats there.

I think a good amount people would use it, due to so many people visiting profiles these days. Doesn't mean they can't still put it in their signatures though.

EDIT: added a poll, maybe that will help?

Alex April 16th, 2008 5:59 PM

I actually support this idea a lot. o_o;

Personally, I hate having to get a new signature just because I know I have to re-stylize my PC family and all the links I put in there and whatnot. But, PC families are just so common and I've had one for so long now that I don't want to dump it just like that. Having a profile tab for your PC Family, or a tab in the About Me section would be perfect for a person like me.

I say go for it. What have you got to lose?

Saryka April 16th, 2008 6:04 PM

I'd use it. I have a lot of PC family, making it hard to make signatures around it.

And I love everyone too much to get rid of my PC fam, so I totally vote yes on this.

Cherrim April 16th, 2008 6:06 PM

I'm not really into the whole family thing too much, but if claims can go in the profile, I don't see the problem with having a field for familes too. I'd like to look into this.

Soul Eater April 16th, 2008 6:23 PM

I also like this idea even though the only real family I have is Kylie but I think it would make things much easier for some people with very big PC families.

parallelzero April 16th, 2008 6:30 PM

Since when do we "vote" in CQ&F?
Anyways, I'm okay with it, but only because they don't show up if you don't input anything. If they did, I'd totally say no.

There's a- OH. XD
My bad. XD

The last time I checked, this was The PokéCommunity Forums not The Virtual Family Forums. I'm against the idea.

Mmmm. This entire forum is not about Pokémon, Eon-Rider. PokéCommunity families have been going on for quite some time, and this idea is to organize the cludder of it all, better. It seems your revolting virtual families in general... that's not this idea. :\ Thanks for coming by and stating your opinion though, I guess.

Hehe, Audy stated it perfectly. I put a poll up also to the reason that many people just look at the thread and move on, when there's a poll, they can give a quick opinion. Just to find out on an extremely small scale whom would use it. Nothing such as "If we get to twenty and yes is majority, we get it." stuff.

Thank you for all of your opinions so far, I too would like this to be put into action, as re-doing the signature over and over in the past was a pain, and would clearly benefit many users. If we have bishies and claims, why not have family, that's all we're saying. Also, I hope this does get looked into as well, Lightning. Again, thank you for all the opinion thus far.

Then why do we have the Last.FM option in the profile? Why do we have forums to talk about subjects other than Pokemon? Those have nothing to do with Pokemon either. Let's get rid of those, since this is PokeCommunity!

If this goes through, then it's just going to be another field on the profile page to fill out if needed, and ignore if not needed. It's just like the claimed series/bishie/song profile fields that we have now. Not everyone uses them, but there was enough of a demand(?) for them that they were implemented. If you don't use them, then you just ignore them on the Edit Profile page.

I really have no qualms about this option being added. It's obviously a pain for those with families to think about how to list them in signatures, so why not have an easier option? As I said, we already have the series/bishie/song profile fields, and the Last.FM option. This could also be added.

I surprisingly agree. A profile is for only one person plus the extras of visitor messages, and friends (which aren't 100% necessary), but by having a PC family section, it's including extra information that isn't related to the actual person. And of course, they're related as in PC family, but nothing else... a profile should describe a person, and that's it.

That's what signatures are for... though, I agree with having bishies etc, because it associates with the one person, and semi-describes their character obsessions by their bishies claimed. But, PC families are so common, that by placing it in the profiles... it just makes PC seem even more myspace-y. If PC families, bishies, etc, everything gets placed in profiles, why have a signature? Or instead of a signature... just have a image. It's good when things all have a specific place to go, but, when it's overdone, it just kills the original purpose. People aren't going to go to the PC families section of the profile and go "OMG, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE RELATED"... infact, I doubt many people will even view that section, because it's something only a certain group of people (being that persons PC family) needs to know.

I just think it's pointless... and plus, if you view one persons PC family (5 or over), you can trace them to hundreds of people eventually (PC family wise), and we're all apart of this forum... so why make us all a "family", and not just keep us as "friends" which... we all really are.

Cookie luvs Green April 17th, 2008 12:55 AM

This very idea is very important to me. I've always wished to place my nonexistant family in a profile. For everyone to see ... That I have a beautiful nonexistant family list in my profile. They will now know more about me!! That I'm such a beautiful boygirl!!!!!! GRACIOUS~ MY OPINION MATTERS AS EVERYONE ELSE HERE. LISTEN TO MY INPUT. BOYS AND GIRLS GATHER AROUND THE HERMAPHRODITE. LET'S GO FOR IT LET'S GO FOR IT NO THESE ARE NOT LYRICS WHAT IS THIS WOULD THIS HURT ANYONE? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kylie-chan April 17th, 2008 1:17 AM

I probably wouldn't use it personally, as most of my family is inactive/banned/I've forgotten who was related to me.

But honestly, I support the idea wholly. I think it's a super-super-super-spiffy idea [that's high praise from me] ^_^! Hell, I'll give you a muffin for it.

Nica, I don't see what your problem with a socially-based PC is. The truth of PC is that while it's a Pokémon forum, the emphasis is more on forum than Pokémon. Most people who are active at PC get sucked into the miscallaneous/other sections; PC families are a tradition that have survived for years [does anyone still remember my great family tree of incest with over one hundred people? 8D]. I think it's not gonna do anyone harm but be convenient for a lot of people, it's not hard to implement, and people will use it. Go for it. n_n b

Melody April 17th, 2008 1:27 AM

I rather like the idea. Not that I redesign my signature much because of a family change but Because it'd be a neat thing to have in ones profile. As for this place being myspace-y, well, I disagree. There's nothing wrong with a little forum profile pimping IMHO. XD
There's a major difference between myspace and your forum profile here. I doubt that adding a family field would hurt since it is common in this community in particular. It's been a tradition of PC for as long as I can remember and I feel we should officially adopt it as a profile field. Heh, we could even make it like the Last.Fm profile widget thingy and not make it appear unless you enter it in your profile.
Which would please a few minimalist (staff/nonstaff) members here

Ayano Katagiri April 17th, 2008 1:31 AM

I wouldn't mind such a thing, it'd certainly be very helpful to have around in the profile rather than in the signature. I would probably use it.

But I have a question. Is it possible to have the profile fields so that they could support url links as well? I know the current profile fields for bishes, claims etc. don't allow us to, but unless there's a separate tab system set up, could vB support BBcode there too??

Binary April 17th, 2008 9:02 AM

Yeah, I actually like the idea alot. I can't be bothered to put my PC family on my sig, so this would be very useful. Everyone would be able to see it in your profile. I would definitely use it.

Twinx April 17th, 2008 9:27 AM

I personally wouldn't use that... I like having my PC family in my siggy.

But, I'm not against the idea. If so many people want it, bring it on ^^

Chibi-chan April 17th, 2008 1:15 PM

I wouldn't use it. I mean really, I don't check out anyone's profile page beyond the comments.
Having them in your signature attracts more attention. You can also link to them as well.

Virtual Chatot April 17th, 2008 1:27 PM

I support the idea, but I wonder how often it will be actually used.

It's pretty much a win-win situation there, especially since profile fields are in a separate tab (so people who load profiles wouldn't even see it if they didn't specifically look at that tab.)

Again, only thing is the linking, so.. :x But yeah, I still think it's a good idea regardless of that. I think. XD;

That's exactly the point. See, for users with large and complex familys that have a tough time with signatures and such, finally have an alternative easy option. For those that wish to use signatures still, that's perfectly fine. In no way would it being added say "Oh you can't put it in your signature anymore". No, of course not. Though for those that could use the relief of it, get to use it. No one really loses. And it would be like the claims were if you didn't put anything, nothing would show to the public, so nothing wrong there. Also, on the linking, well is it really too hard to ask, just C&P that username and search their name? I don't think it's really a big deal. *shrugs* I don't know.

Anyway, I just think this would be a helpful addition to our profiles, no harm done, and those that wish to use it, can.

I'd like to thank all of you for your input & opinions as well. Thanks.

Wish April 24th, 2008 1:35 PM

Meh, It WOULD be nice, but I might not use it, just because I like it being in my signature. I don't like going to people's profile to look at that stuff; although, I do put it on a separate web page. o.o' So Technically I'm neutral on this idea.

Lady Berlitz April 24th, 2008 2:07 PM

I would use it. Having the "PC Family" Profile Field would be great. Not because I think it's annoying having to change my signature every-now-and-then, but it would maybe give a little more organization.

Still, even if this Profile Field is put up, people still have the ability to add their PC Family to their Signature. So, adding this Profile Field would be a pretty good idea.

Midori Chi April 24th, 2008 5:08 PM

I would use it. I was actually thinking about this about a week ago or something. : 3

Hazuki April 24th, 2008 6:00 PM

Well I have no objection against this. Even if we do have this, I wouldn't complain. It's cool, I mean it's not a bad idea, but I would use my sig for it likewise. X3;

Anyways, I voted yes on this.

Lucy Lu April 24th, 2008 7:20 PM

I voted yes on this. Because when I change my signature, that is one less thing I need to worry about. It will be in my profile for everyone to see. I know I will use it.

But I see why everyone will be against it. You guys have valid points.

It is everyone's call. If it happens great, if not that is okay too. ;3
