Poll on shiny collecting in D/P

I was wondering out of curiosity... how many people here would say they collect shinies on a serious level, compared with those who don't, in Diamond and Pearl? I'm just curious...

AJ™ May 7th, 2008 3:05 AM

I'm a competitive battler, but having a shiny every so often is fine.

WaluigiRedclaw91 May 7th, 2008 5:03 AM

I mainly use shiny pokemon in competitive ways

Skaterzpenguin May 7th, 2008 6:35 AM

I sometimes hunt for shinies, but its so hard to get them. lol I only seen 2 shinies in my Pearl using the poke'radar so far.

Toblerone May 7th, 2008 8:08 AM

Hmm.. i'm a casual shiny collecter, sometimes i go on a massive rampage looking for shinies, but it kinda dies away after a few minutes, lol.

Patchy May 7th, 2008 10:36 AM

I'm a HUGE fan of shinies. (As you'd see from my trade thread :P.)

I always look for them with Pokeradar, but dislike soft resetting, so I don't do it. I trade for those instead. :P

El Gofre May 7th, 2008 10:38 AM

When my wifi decides to work, im a hardcore collector over wifi. I will complete the dex in shiny, 120/7000 done :P
I cant be bothered to catch them myself though, too much effort. I spend most of my time EVing and dont have time to attempt chaining.

Mitchman May 7th, 2008 11:57 AM

Mt game counter stopped cause of looking so what do you think.

Ghostsrevolt May 7th, 2008 3:12 PM

i'm a casual collector.
i've only seen about like 5 shinies in my pearl.

The Fallen May 7th, 2008 3:22 PM

A shiny every so often is nice indeed, but I do not go out of my way, such as codes, to get them. I'm perfectly fine with the normal look of any pokemon.

XDLugia May 7th, 2008 3:36 PM

i have gotten all of the normal pokes that can be obtain at this point so i look into getting shinies. that is the only reason i have like 60+ shinies.

Crystal Shaymin May 7th, 2008 3:43 PM

iim very determined. so far, i have around 70, around 10-15 were caught myself from chaining, or random encounter.

Azonic May 7th, 2008 5:24 PM

Shiny pokemon have little importance to me. If I do happen to find a shiny pokemon, that's nice. If I don't, I'm perfectly fine. I'm more focused on IVs and natures and would be much happier if I found a Pokemon with a good IV spread / Nature than a shiny. But if I do get a shiny pokemon with perfect IVs and a great nature, then that's fantastic. 8D

Cid May 7th, 2008 8:56 PM

I have a Shiny Riolu... Though nothing seems to be different when compared to normal ones...

I guess I'm not much of a collector because they are really really really rare...

hothead May 7th, 2008 10:32 PM

Im A causual collecter but im slowly buliding up i got a lot better at chaning and im trying to get every pokemon shiny right now i got 12 but I might try to become a supper shiney collecter but right now im more causual

Mitchman May 8th, 2008 4:02 AM

Also to add to my 999 hours of gameplay do to shiny hunting I got over 200. Its draining batteries out of my DS so badly I am afraid of the electric bill

Iron Shaman May 8th, 2008 7:49 AM

There are very few shinies I like, and they're only good GTS bait to me, so i don't really care. =P

Having a shiny pokémon with good IVs is really nice, but I'd much rather breed a pokémon with a lot of stats in 29-31 than have a shiny with okay IVs/nature.

Sweet Speed May 8th, 2008 11:26 AM

I collect shinies when I check the Pokedex and say "OMG I love this Poke". That's when I start looking for them, I think people focus too much on shinies and should just do it as a fun thing ^^

That's the best way to look at it, IMO.

paperfunk May 8th, 2008 1:15 PM

i've seen one shiny (and i ran from it) and i hatched one. the rest of my shinys are trades

Ris May 8th, 2008 4:34 PM

I don't really care, I've never actually tried to go out and go shiny-hunting seriously anyway. I usually ending up getting bored by the 30-35 chain or so, and no shiny grasses. x_x

If I wasn't so impatient I could do so.

Plasmaniac May 8th, 2008 7:44 PM

Sniny Pokemons seem to hate me for some reason >_<

However, aside from the fact that I resent that a little, I don't like hunting for them at all. I like Pokemon with good IVs and it is annoying that shiny Pokemon end up being a bad nature, or having low internal values. I have a few friends with enough luck to get some shinies without the pokeradar though.

The last time I fought a wild one was on Gold, a shiny bellsprout which for some reason I didn't caught. But really, each of my friends have catched at least one or two shinies, I'm just too lazy for the pokeradar (but not enough to stop me from breeding for ages xD).

Kojima May 8th, 2008 10:19 PM

I tend to collect them in my free time. But because school is back, shiny hunting will be left aside for awhile.

I don't think Pokerader is useful. I've used it over 100 times and no luck - just some common Pokemon. I have seen more shinies with luck then Pokerader.

SherlockHolmeboy May 9th, 2008 12:25 AM

I only have one shiny. :( Forget about the Red Gyarados, I have the mysterious green Pelipper! :P

Atomic Sharks May 9th, 2008 5:08 AM

In my pokemon Game i haven't even seen a shiny in the wild or anywhere but i got some off here and off GTS so i have like 10-13 or 14

pm_41 May 9th, 2008 2:21 PM

I have over 30 Shinys...all of them off of the internet. I consider myself a casual Shiny trainer, though. (I've seen people here on PC with like 500+ shinys!!! Now that's crazy!)

BakingBluePotatoe May 9th, 2008 3:47 PM

well, before yesterday I've always desperately tried (and failed) to chain for a shiny... (All my shinies have been either from trades, or on ROMs)

yesterday afternoon, at approximately 3:45pm all that hard work paid of.

I had found a Shiny Cubone! <3

and guess what. It had a JOLLY Nature. (NOW do you think I crazy, Hana-chan? :p)

~~~~~
That really boosts my confidence. Now I am training a Gallade SPECIFICALLY for Shiny hunting.
I am now OFFICIALLY a Shiny Hunter! <3
Motsuko Live May 9th, 2008 4:06 PM
It certainly does take a while to find your first shiny (using the chaining method) but once you've found one, it's such a boost of confindence, you just want to do it over and over again. I remember my first shiny was a Doduo. It was probably my 10th attempt at chaining. I was so happy, I was litteraly laughing while sitting there on my couch xD
But alas, I've become tired of shiny hunting. I find it's just a waste of time now. The shinies aren't worth it. At least not to me, anyways.
Though I still do hunt for them sometimes. Mostly to no success, seeing as I get bored after about 10 Pokemon ^^;
ShadowTails May 9th, 2008 4:37 PM
I'd say I'm very into it, just look at my sig. If you think that's mad, then check out some shiny hunters on Youtube they have broken over 100 when I've just gotten about 70...
8th Wonder™ May 10th, 2008 2:03 AM
I am indifferent, I'm not the kind who cares about shinies.
