Releasing a Pokemon, it comes back!

I was clearing out my boxes on my Diamond Version, so I was releasing Pokemon that I didn't really need... like hatched Pokemon that didn't have good stats/natures & Pokemon that I caught just for data. I eventually came to a Tentacool & tried to release it. It faded away (like all released Pokemon do), but then faded back in! A message "Tentacool came back! Was it worried about you?" appeared. This was the very first time this has happened to me on a game. Has it happened to anyone else?

solopy567 May 7th, 2008 3:23 PM

I guess it likes you a lot....thats the only thing i can say

Volta. May 7th, 2008 3:28 PM

Did it fade back as soon as you released it or some time later? I wonder if it has something to do with the happiness factor...

icycatelf May 7th, 2008 3:59 PM

I have no idea how I made it happy...

@Ratiasu-kun: It faded back as soon as it finished fading away.

hedgehog1128 May 7th, 2008 4:13 PM

I've heard about this. What I heard is that it has to do with HM's. If you have a pokemon that knows an HM, and it's the only one, you won't be able to release it. Does the Tentacool know any HM's? If you delete them, you should be able to release it.

Dunsparce May 7th, 2008 4:14 PM

It has happened to me in my Sapphire with a Wailord.

At first I thought it was because it had HM moves I needed, but after teaching them to another Pokemon, it still came back XD

I was like all "awwwww" And kept it XP

hedgehog1128 May 7th, 2008 4:19 PM

^_^ At that point, I would have kept it too.

GTA-Niko May 7th, 2008 4:53 PM

NJever happened to me. Keep it and it'll make you a good friend!

Pokefun1! May 7th, 2008 7:39 PM

that happened to me and corsala.

also, the move deleter wouldnt dlete swampets surf, because swamperst was not willing to.

huh/

Rattata Guy May 7th, 2008 8:41 PM

You can't release any pokemon that know an HM move. Have the move deleter get rid of the HM move first, then you'll find you can release it to the wild with no problem.

It's the same reasoning behind why you can't migrate pokemon that know an HM move either. It's the games way of keeping you from being trapped in a place with no way to progress.

Cid May 7th, 2008 8:52 PM

That happened to me in my Diamond too when I tried to release my newly evolved Chimecho...

Maybe it has something to do with happiness? Since Chingling evolved into Chimecho by happiness at night...

Ah, that would make sense.

I can't say I've ever tried releasing a HM pokemon before. I guess not many people do for said reasons. I guess the programmers couldn't put pokemon capable of cutting in every area, for example.

Did you have anything else with Surf? Can't say this has happened to me...

WaluigiRedclaw91 May 8th, 2008 4:40 AM

That happened to me and Bibarel, I thought it was because it was my first caught pokemon

Cid May 8th, 2008 4:42 AM

BTW, I just tried it with my newly-caught Kricketune with Cut and guess what?

It happened.

So maybe it's really because of HM's...

DehVocal May 8th, 2008 4:48 AM

Happend to me and my Psyduck :] Can't remember if it had a HM or not, but I kept it. :)

That is incorrect. You can't Migrate a pokemon with HMs because HMs have different numbers from the GBA games to Diamond/Pearl. And Some of the HMs in the GBA games do not exist in Diamond/Pearl.

If you were "trapped" all you have to do is teach the "lost" HM to another pokemon, or reset the game.

WaluigiRedclaw91 May 8th, 2008 10:17 AM

No because u might not have a pokemon suitable for the HM

shiny_Riolu May 8th, 2008 10:23 AM

Never happened to me! Keep it make it your friend....

Everyone who gets it right gets a cookie from me ^^.

The problem is to do with Hms, the reason is that your Pokemon is the only one with a certain Hm in your game. If you teach another Pokemon that HM then you should be able to release the 1st one.

(That was a typeful :P)

Divine~Deoxys May 8th, 2008 12:57 PM

Never happened to me...but i don't release pokemon much, i tend to go crazy about them, raise them to lv.63, get bored and leave them in a box for the rest of their lives. i think it just lurrves you.

paperfunk May 8th, 2008 1:25 PM

my friend had something similar happen, but it was sorta different ( XD ) he said he released a poke, then encountered it in the wild again, with the same nickname and everything. was he lying or can this happen?

darkace May 8th, 2008 2:22 PM

Basically the pokemon happy stats or whatever are really high. Just another paranormal pokemon thing.

I really doubt that I'm wrong here. The numbering of HMs has nothing to do with the problem, especially since after you teach an HM to a pokemon the HM numbering system doesn't even enter into the equation anymore. In fact, the move numbering system probably only exists for our organizational benefit and nothing else, or as a hearkening back to the Gen I games.

I say again, the restriction is to keep a player from getting trapped in a place without any way of progressing in the game. What would happen in the event that you migrated a pokemon with a HM that you needed to leave a cave (ie Surf, Strength, etc) and you didn't have any pokemon in your party that could even learn the HM afterward? You'd be trapped. After you migrate you can't get "reset" and expect to have your HM pokemon back.
