For the main game, any team can beat the game with little to no trouble at all, if you mean for WiFi then just learn how to Ev train there are lots of guides on how to do that, the only real advice i can say is don't have more that one of any type, and try to cover as many weaknesses as you can, and don't give your Pokemon more than one of the same type of attack (e.g. don't give Infernape Flamethrower & FireBlast).

Just read the guides, learn the various, subtle mechanics of the game, and then find some Pkmn that you like and try to build a team with them. When you start battling you might not be successful immediately, but you'll just need to keep battling and learn how to predict moves. That's how you get to be good at competitive battling.

For in-game, the best team is:

Anything wins in-game, it's aimed at ages 3+ and has AI to match
If you plan on starting competetive battling, Read This Page. It's extremely useful when starting up.

Making a competent team takes time, but I'm glad to see some people are still interested. Good luck.

*cough* study ALL stats and moves of overused and border line pokemon first. then study uu and you are good. after you have a pretty good idea of what is what then you can figure out what kind of team suits your style.(normal, stall, rain, sunny, hail, sweeper,ou, uu, bl, mixed, there are many and your gonna have to "study" to find out what you can do easily, just asking what can i do dosent cut it unless you know your stuff
